How long does it take for characters to get added?
I've submitted stories that have canon characters in them that aren't on the list. So, I filled out their names and the stories got placed in the "Other" character list.

Will the characters I suggested ever get put up? I mean, they're canon characters... I remember hearing it being at most 24 hours.

To top it off, these are major characters. Not some minor side characters, but people with important roles in the plot. For some reason though, they weren't on the character list in the first place...

I submitted them 6 months ago, and they're still not up.

HRT I wouldn't mind if they updated, either. One of the canon
characters in my fandom has been waiting to be added since
I posted a fic about him last October. Since I'm currently
writing about him now, it would be nice if he popped into
existence.

JesusKetchum31 Not to complain, but there's really little point in the character list if the list isn't complete and accurate. In large or strange fandoms, lot of people seek out fanfics of obscure characters--characters who, on Ficwad, are often not in the list.

To use examples from my fandoms, I have a Power Rangers: SPD fic called "The All-Consuming Ego." It has one scene with an original, MMPR ranger, but other than that so far it's completely SPD. But if you go to the power rangers category, the only stories who have characters other than "other" are MMPR fics. What if someone only wants to read about SPD's Bridge? They have to rely on story descriptions. Plus, in the character list, there's an entry for Kat (meaning Katherine Hillard, of MMR, Zeo, and Turbo). Well, in SPD there's a character named Katherine Manx, who is also called Kat. Younger fans might get confused (especially if I do my evil, evil fanfic idea of having Kat Manx date Tommy. WAHAHAH).

And in Pokemon, Ash and Misty, both regular characters, are in the character list, but Brock, who is in the show just as long as, if not longer than, Misty, is not. I joined a year ago and managed to get Mewtwo on the list, since I almost exclusively write 'Two-fic, but Brock, who features in at least one of my Metwo stories, is absent. I love reading Brock stories, but since Poke-descriptions are often reliable, I'm left confused. Further, Gary Oak is on the character list. He's not a major character; he appears a few times a season. I suppose Mewtwo isn't either, but he does get a movie and an hour-long TV special to himself.

Really, for small categories, the character list shouldn't exist, but for large ones (both in terms of cast and fandom), if it is to mean anything at all it must be thorough.

To be honest, I think the moderated character lists should be abandoned, and the database occasionally purged of obvious Sues in the character list. But that's just me.

HRT One quick and dirty way to fill in some of the lists is to go
over to FF.net and poach from some of their menus. They should
have character listings for all fandoms with over 500 stories,
so that should help somewhat.
