More visual updates/improved Opera support
We've made a few more visual updates, including adding previous/next page links to the tops of story listings, as well as allowing filtering by warning. We are working on improved searching and filtering options, and those should be coming in a large update sometime soon.

Several improvements have been made to make the site fully compatible with the Opera browser. We are currently testing all new features in the current version (8.0), but if you have any issues with a previous version, please let us know so we can get it fixed.

RSS feeds have been added to certain pages. If you're using Firefox, you'll notice a little orange icon in the status bar, which you can click on to add a feed of the most recently added stories to your bookmarks. (Safari has a similar icon in its location bar.)
Loki-L Thanks, the problems all seemed to be very minor to me, but it means a lot to users of less well known browsers to get paid this kind of attention. The only remaining problem I see in Opera is that the font for "You won't see stories with a lower score when you browse or search." seems to be awfully small and hard to read compared to how it looks like on IE.

I am also happy to hear about the coming filter and search options. The site is turning out to be really good.

The only thing I am really missing at this point is a way to keep track of the stories that I have rated/reviewed.
Loki-L added to write that the rss feed Icon does not apear with opera, but that it peobably would if the type was given as something like application/rss+xml instead.
Kemayo Loki-L: The type is now given as application/rss+xml, and it seems to work in Opera for us.

We're planning on adding a section to My Account for at least "stories I've reviewed". We haven't decided yet whether we want a rated stories area.
akatonbo Hm, there doesn't seem to be a space between the story title and the word 'by' in the listing pages in IE6. I checked it on Netscape 7.2 also (I'm at work -- bad me -- and only have those two browsers available now) and it looks fine there, though.
akatonbo Another thing I've been mulling over, not topical -- I'm guessing that the current Genre values were taken from ff.net or a derivative site, and they are common, but I never cared very much for them.

Having some kind of categorization for story types is useful for search purposes, and sometimes figures into whether I decide something looks worth clicking on. I can even see the usefulness of the Sci-Fi and Fantasy categories, either for original fiction, for emphasis in SF/F fandoms where most stories aren't focused on the SF/F aspects, or for AUs. But a lot of what I read and write doesn't seem to fit well into existing categories; I uploaded two today that I waffled between Drama and Romance on, finally marking one story one way and one the other, but neither really was Drama or Romance; one I would have described as POV or Introspection and the other... I'm not entirely sure, probably something like Vignette or Slice-of-Life. I also think that Alternate Universe (or Alternate Universe and Alternate Reality, but many people probably wouldn't bother to learn to make the distinction) would be a very useful genre, and a Challenge Response tag could be useful too (making it somewhat easier for people looking for responses to a particular challenge to find them, something I have often wished I could do in ff.net's Harry Potter section).

I wonder if a free-form (no pulldown menu resulting) box for relating a story to a specific episode, book, volume, etc. would be useful... (Yes, I did once harbor plans to run a fanfiction archive myself, and getting involved with a new archive whose maintainer is interesting in working with users is waking up all my old categorization geekery. I'll shut up and leave you alone now. ^_-)
admin akatonbo: Your suggestion of a "Challenge Response" tag is an interesting one. There may be some changes coming to the "Warnings" system that will change it to "Flags" and expand the selection a bit, and if that is implemented, I think "Challenge Response" would make an excellent flag. Thanks for the suggestions!
