Oooh, a decision. I'm rubbish at those. I'd say, go with the longer one, because then I get to read your beautiful writing for longer. But it MUST have a happy ending, or I shall be severely depressed. Or, you can do the shorter one, and immediately start a new fic? In which case I am sure to get a happy ending, AND I can continue to read your stuff. I believe that is called a 'win-win situation.'

I must say that I am definitely being swayed towards option two, although I can't guarantee that the ending will be happy for all concerned. Which I's kind of why I want to do it. With regards to option one, I think that once this fic is done I'm just going to work on one-shots rather than chaptered stories.
