I agree with you on the fact that what is generally portrayed as the "bad boy", is usually not a bad boy at all, but rather just a common bloke with a bit of an attitude problem. I'm guessing that this whole increase in the bad boy lovin' is because of these Edward Cullen types. You know what I mean? The "bad guy", the real one anyway, doesn't care, doesn't stroke your hair lovingly when you're alone with him and then put up a mean guy act once there are others around. With that said, I admit to being guilty of doing that in stories as well so who am I to talk...

And the term "bad boy" is kind of a broad concept, isn't it? It depends on how you view the guy and his actions. My ex, for example, was a pretty vicious, drunken fool with an attitude problem, but he did have his softer side and could be a really nice guy, but then, he's also in jail now. I wouldn't say he's a bad boy, though my mother certainly does. Depends on what you count as bad and what as "bad", you know? :D

As for stories, the point isn't always about giving the female character what she deserves. Maybe the guy she deserves is like the Prince of England or something, but that's not the point at all. Maybe the point is that she ends up with this "bad boy" and maybe changes him to a "good boy", or maybe it's the entire point that we don't want the character to be happy at all. The whole thing though, I suppose some of us ladies just want the bad boy because we like the danger and excitement, but once we get bored of that we can change and domesticate him? Who knows, really.

Sorry for the long review. I have a lot of things to say and very few people to listen to me so once I get started I can almost never stop. I just end up rambling on and on until it doesn't even really make sense anymore.
