kitkatpwl, you are going to love me for this HAHA
"Just...so you know. Its not only you that feels that way about Gee, I love the guy, but he has...control issues." he said, smirking a bit.
"Yeah...I know. I'm really more worried about Brook." I stared down into my now empty coffee cup.
He gave me a look, "Mikey, you know you should probably be focusing on yourself. I mean, I know you, I know you worry, but this isn't the place to do that."
I sighed, rubbing my tired eyes. "I know," But what Frank didn't know is that I was faking all of this 'recovery' shit. Oh well.
He stood up, groaning and stretching. "Well, I should go Mikes. I'll probably come by later this week,"
"Alright, see you then," I replied, and watched him leave.
After sitting and wallowing for a solid ten minutes, I decided something needed to be done. I couldn't let Brooklyn be moved. I slowly walked inside, attempting to concoct some sort of plan. When I got inside, I saw a well-dressed older couple talking to a nurse. Brooklyn was sitting in a chair near them, rolling her eyes. I got her attention and gave her a questioning look.
She stood up and walked toward me, "My parents," she said, "Apparently they need permission to move me and my stepmom is fighting with them."
I looked over at the older couple. The man seemed to be consoling his wife.
"So what's going to happen?" I asked. All I could think about was that letter, and it took every ounce of my being not to be awkward.
She shrugged, "I dunno, they might be pulling me out,"
My eyes widened, "What? You can't leave me here all alone Brook!" I scream-whispered.
"I know, I'm praying." I stood with her waiting for the verdict. She was making the cutest face, biting her lip, her eyes wide and hopeful. I had a hard time understanding why she felt so badly about herself. She was a very beautiful girl. I looked down at her arms, and realized now what the 'M' meant.
My fingers lightly grazed the mark, and she quickly looked down at my hand.
"Brooklyn, may we speak with you for a moment?" her father asked.
She inhaled sharply and walked over to them. They spoke quietly, and it is very hard to eavesdrop that way.
Their volume was rising. "The only reason you don't want to come home is so you can avoid college Brooklyn,"
"Let's leave the analyzing to the shrinks Beth," Brook sneered.
"I can't deal with this right now," he father stated plainly.
"If you let me stay here, I'll really try, I promise," Brooklyn whined. "I want to get better, I found motivation," she said, quickly glancing at me.
"Alright," her father said, clearly annoyed, "Are we still needed?"
The nurse shook her head, and her parents left. I smiled big at Brooklyn and she ran toward me and hugged me.
"You gonna keep your promise?" I asked.
She let go, and looked me directly in the eyes. "Yes,"
"I feel like I want to be better, so she can be better too," I said to Spencer during our usual afternoon coffee.
"That's wonderful Mikey, it really is, but, you have to want to get better for you,"
I sighed, "You know, the fact that I actually want to get better should be enough for you people. "
She smiled, compassionately. "I know, it should, but if your doing it for someone else, it won't last."
I scoffed. She was my nurse, she was never my friend. The fact that I could have been so stupid to think otherwise baffled me, "I don't need another lecture, I've had plenty thank you," I got up from the bench we were sitting on and walked inside. I felt over half the blood in my body rush to my face. I was furious.
"Mikey? Are you okay?" Brooklyn asked me.
I grabbed her hand, "Come with me?" I asked.
She nodded, looking concerned.
"Where the hell can you go to be alone in this shithole?" I muttered.
"Nowhere, what the hell is going on?" she asked.
I found a deserted hallway, and quickly planted my hands on her cheeks, guiding her lips to mine.
She pulled away, "What are you doing?"
"I just... I want to be..." I stuttered for a while. I didn't really know.
"Want to be what?" she asked, her eyes searching mine.
I took a deep breath, "I really...like you...and I want to help you. I want to be better for you,"
She gasped slightly, her eyes becoming watery.
"Mikey, I've been looking all over for you," I tore my gaze away from Brooklyn to see Spencer, "I have to talk to you,"
"I don't want to talk to you," I said childishly. "C'mon" I mumbled to Brooklyn, grabbing her hand and quickly walking away.
