"So, Michael, how did the night at home go?" My therapist asked.

"Well, my brother proved yet again how much of an asshole he can be."

He chuckled at this.

"And, I actually dumped out all the alcohol in my house."

He raised his eyebrows, creating deep lines in his forehead. "That takes a lot of courage Michael."

"I had help from Brook..." I said quietly.

"Yes, I was informed of your relationship with Brooklyn."

I wasn't sure how to feel. Everything he said seemed to lack emotion. I shifted nervously in in the red leather I was sitting on.

"Whatever you feel you need to do that's fine. It's going to be really difficult though, since both of you are trying to recover."

"I know."

"But, you are a lot stronger than Brooklyn,"

I wasn't sure about that, but I nodded anyhow.

"So, back to you, did you say anything to your brother about his behaviour?"

I told him how I yelled at him. He congratulated me. "Michael, your progress is truly great.
I believe you're healed."

I my mouth slowly fell open, "Does that mean I get to go home?"

He smiled. "It sure does Michael, congratulations." He outstretched his large hand and took mine into it, shaking it roughly.

"I want to to realize one thing though. There is a lot of damage between you and your brother that needs to be repaired. I want that to be your goal."

Yeah. Probably. I was too excited to argue. "Of course, yes, anything. Thank you so much."

"Now, your brother has to come down here to finish up some paperwork, and then you are free to go,"

I smiled so widely my cheeks ached. I jumped up from my chair, barely paying attention to what he had actually said.

I walked straight to the front desk so I could go smoke. When I went outside I found Brooklyn sitting outside on the bench, gripping the edge of it tightly, swinging her legs back and forth, and staring down at her lap.

I walked up to her slowly. "Hey Brook," I said quietly, deciding my news could wait.

She looked up at me and smiled, "Hey."

I got a cigarette out for myself, and one for her. I handed it to her after lighting it. "What's up?" I asked, sitting down.

She shrugged. "I'm just thinking..."

"About?" I encouraged.

"I don't know what I'm going to do when I get out of here."

I grabbed her hand. "What do you mean?"

She sighed. "Like where I'm going to live, I can't go back home."

"You're not going back to school?"

"No...I lost my scholarship." she stated sullenly.

I gasped. "They can do that?"

She nodded, "I guess so, my stepmom called me today, said the school sent her a letter. She tried to tell them I'd be back for fall semester...They didn't care."

"Well, I have lots of room," I offered.

"Do you really think that's a good idea?' she asked.

I shrugged. "Why not?"

"Well I don't have a job or anything..."

"We'll look for one. I'll help."

She smiled. "Are you sure?"

I nodded. "Yeah, I mean, some schooling behind you, it won't be that hard. I'll start looking today when I get home," I said, trying to be nonchalant, and failing miserably.

She made one of those faces where you know the person is upset, but they try to act happy. "That's great Mikey,"

"I'll come visit you every day, don't worry." I reassured. "And you can call me whenever.

She smiled, trying to convince me that made her feel better.

"I'm sorry Brook,"

She gave me a look, "For what? Mikey, it's really awesome that you're going home. I'm not upset. I'll just miss you,"

I pulled her into an over-dramatic hug, "I'll miss you too,"

A nurse called me from the doorway.

I looked to her then back to Brooklyn, "Come in with me?"

She smiled and nodded. We walked in the door, and almost ran into Gerard. "Fuck," I muttered. I remembered that I had been warned about this, but was to excited to process it.

"I gotta go...pack, or....whatever." I mumbled. Brook's grip tightened on my hand as we walked away. That was a lie, as I hadn't really unpacked from my overnight stay at my house, and all my dirty clothes were already in a bag. But I didn't care.

"Mikey?" Brooklyn asked, as I got my things together, slowly to assure I wouldn't see Gerard again. Don't get me wrong, I understood I would have to face him eventually, as we did share the same parents (though sometimes I wondered), and I would be expected to attend family functions. Oh, and the band. But now was not the time.

"What?" I replied, my mind elsewhere.

"Did Gerard say why he didn't like me?"

I laughed, "He doesn't need a reason to hate something that makes me happy,"

The corners of her lips turned up in a bashful smile, "I make you happy?"

"Of course you do!" I said, hugging her again. "I love you Brooklyn," I said quietly, pulling away and smiling at her.

She looked down at her feet, biting her lip.

"So do you think he's gone yet?"

She looked at me, her eyes wide, "Mikey, I...I'm sorry."

"For...what exactly?"

"I can't...I can't say it back. It's not because I don't...I do... I just...can't."

I shrugged. "Whatever," I said, brushing it off. I couldn't let her know that it stung a bit.

"Want me to check if he's gone?"

I nodded, relocating my things to the doorway. I collapsed into the bed and exhaled loudly. "Fuck I need a drink,"
