I Am

I am a grain of sand on an endless beach
Never found or singled out
But I am never alone
Around me, hundreds of others
All the same
I am a bird in an uncharted sky
I thought my life had ended
When I fell from the nest
But now I know, in this wide open blue,
It was the beginning
I am a leaf on a limitless tree
I started small, I came from nothing
The tree gave me life
And like the other leaves I have no choice
I give it back
One day I will fade and fall
But the tree will keep growing
To heights I will never see
New leaves will take my place
I will fly too close to the sun
And the tide will wash me away
