Slash, Duff, Matt and Dave were mulling over the singer they had just heard.

"He was cool." Dave said.

"Yeah, he has a great range, his voice was awesome. I think we should keep going with him." Duff agreed. They had finally heard a singer that they really liked, and he seemed like a great guy too. Slash was still thinking about it.

Matt spoke up. "We need to have a good talk to him, 'cos I think we may have found the guy." Dave and Duff nodded. Slash was still silent. "Slash, what did ya think of him?" Matt asked.

"I dunno. I mean, he's a great singer, but....he just didn't feel right. Maybe it's just me, I dunno." Slash said. The other guys looked disappointed. "But yeah, I guess we should keep trying him out."

"We can't keep going if you don't feel comfortable with him." Dave said. The guys looked at Slash. They didn't really understand his problem with the singer, they all thought he was pretty much perfect. "What's wrong with him?"

"I guess the chemistry wasn't as great as I want it to be. Ya'know, I want the new singer to be the best singer We've worked with." Slash sounded a bit disappointed. He wanted the guys to understand what he meant.

"Slash, for you that's nearly impossible." Matt said with a kind of pissed off tone.

"What do you mean, nearly impossible?" Slash asked. He glared at Matt with a strange look.

"I mean all of the guys we're trying, they're......they're not Axl." Slash's face went from a strange look to a 'what-the-fuck did you just say' look. Did Matt really just say what he think he said?

"What?" Slash asked, forcefully. "What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"

"You and Axl had an amazing chemistry, obviously. And you're just comparing every guy that comes in here to him. We're not gonna find anyone who has the same connection with you as he did. He was like your 'one special singer' or whatever." Matt replied. He didn't look at Slash as he said it, because he didn't want to see the look he was going to get. Slash stood up and looked like he was going to blow a fuse.

"What the fuck does Axl have to do with anything?!?" Slash shouted. The guys were surprised, Slash never yelled, or even raised his voice. "And since when was he my so called 'special singer'?" He glared at Matt. Matt was actually a bit scared, he had never seen Slash angry. He didn't think what he had said was going to set Slash off like that.

"I..I thought you knew that. Like...you haven't had the same kind of chemistry with anyone else. He was obviously the one singer that you felt the most comfortable with." Matt kind of choked out. Slash became even more pissed off. He looked around the room, as if he was stumped as to what he should say.

"I haven't had the same chemistry with anybody else, because we worked with a different fucking singer! Of course I'm not gonna have the same approach to whoever, 'cos last time I checked, they were different fucking people!" Slash screamed. He turned around and stomped out of the room.

"What the fuck was that?" Duff stared at Matt, wanting an answer.

"What? I didn't know he would react like that. What the fuck is his problem?" Matt asked. Duff sighed, and ran his hand through his hair.

"Look...He hates it when people compare the singer he's working with now, to Axl. He can't stand it." Duff said.

"Why?" Matt asked.

"Because...well, he doesn't like to talk about Axl. Especially when he's trying to focus on his current music, with the current singer. He thinks about his time with Axl as the past, it's gone, so why think about it when it doesn't matter anymore."

"That still doesn't explain his reaction." Matt said.

Duff looked down at the ground. He sighed, and started again. "Look, he knows he had a great thing with Axl. But he doesn't like it when people keep telling him that he's never gonna have that same chemistry with anyone else. He wants to have a tight bond with the next singer, and I think deep down he knows that it's probably not gonna be that way, but he still keeps trying to find another singer who he goes great with. So he gets really pissed off when people tell him that he's never gonna have a good thing with another singer."

"Oh....man I never knew." Matt said. Now he realised why Slash tried to change the subject whenever Axl's name came up. He felt stupid for saying what he did.

"One of us should go find him." Dave suggested. The other guys nodded. Matt stood up and walked towards the door.

"Matt, maybe I should-"

"No, it should be me. I was the one who said it, so I need to go fix the shit that I caused." Matt said. Duff nodded, and sat back down.

Matt walked out of the room and down the hall of the studio. It was darkly lit and there were a lot of rooms, but Matt knew where Slash most likely was. He opened a door, and saw Slash sitting down.

"Hey man." Matt said calmly.

Slash glanced at him. Matt walked over slowly and sat beside him.

"Look, I'm sorry about what I said. I didn't know about that whole thing." Matt said. He tried to speak as carefully as possible.

"It's ok man. Really. You didn't know." Slash said quietly.

"You ok though?" Matt asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine. We should go listen to that guy again. He was kick ass." Slash said.

"See? I told you he was awesome." Matt smiled at Slash. Slash laughed.

"You think he's good enough to fill Scott's shoes?" Slash asked.

"Hell yeah. Great range, great presence. But if you're not comfortable with him..."

"I'll be more comfortable with him when we actually get on stage. And besides, he's a great singer and I think he's got what we've been looking for. If I'm not completely cool with him right now it doesn't matter. I'll be cool with him eventually." Slash said.

"Are you sure? I thought you were looking for a singer that you had an awesome chemistry with, right from the get go." Matt said.

"We're a band. It doesn't matter that I may have some doubts, 'cos all of you guys love him. And I'm sure I will too. But I have to actually perform with the guy first. That's how I get the feel of singers, anyway." Slash said. He stood up. "C'mon, lets go call him, get him to come in and rehearse." Matt looked relieved. He put his hand on Slash's shoulder and smiled.

They walked back into the main lounge of the studio. Dave and Duff looked up as they saw Slash and Matt enter the room. They were relieved to see that niether of them looked pissed off.

"Is everything cool now?" Dave asked.

"Yeah, everything's fine. Now get that guys number, we gotta get him in here." Slash said. The other guys smiled.

They put on the demo one more time, just to make sure it was the right choice. As soon as the song ended, Slash looked at Dave and said "Call him."

Dave pulled out his phone and started dialing....
