The past comes back to bite certain people in the butt.
What the hell is he talking about? “I missed you too,” I said sarcastically.
I turned my attention to Ray, “What the fuck is going on? Why is he accusing us of shit?”
“Matt told him we were keeping a secret from him,” Ray said quickly. “After Matt overheard our conversation about you two still dating.
I had to think quick. Maybe Rachel told him how seemed to be mooning over Bob that night we went out.
“Sweetheart I’ve told you everything.”
I watched as Matt’s jaw drop, “You have?” replied Gerard.
“Of course,” I looked at Ray he looked totally confused, but went along with it.
Matt threw up his hands in exasperation. “So you’re not keeping anything else from Gerard?”
“No!” I said seething at him.
“Absolutely nothing?” questioned Matt.
“How was the trip to the zoo?” asked Gerard.
Finally he was asking the question he should have asked when I walked in. “It was wonderful, Emily loved it. We all bonded and she doesn’t hate Bob anymore. She even had me buy him a stuffed zebra.”
“So nothing else happened that I should know about?”
I noticed that Ray looked down shaking his head. Gee grabbed my arm and dragged me out to the living room. He turned on the television and he fast forward a newscast. I couldn’t believe what I was watching I just stood there watching with my mouth opened.
“You weren’t going to tell me were you?” I could see the hurt in his eyes.
“It meant nothing Gee, it was just to play up to our onlookers.”
“You looked like you enjoyed it.”
“You know we have to look convincing. I’m sorry I was going to keep it from you. But it seemed silly for us to get into another fight about this. I figured you wouldn’t be hurt if you didn’t know. I promise from now on I’ll tell you everything.”
Gee just smiled at me and pulled me in his arms, when he let go we were still holding hands I couldn’t help but smile at him. He leaned in and kissed my lips soon his tongue was begging for entrance. Bob’s kissing technique was definitely a better, but the passion and intensity wasn’t there as it is with Gerard. When Gerard kisses me he makes me forget about all my problems and it seems like there’s only the two of us.
“What the fuck are you talking about Matt?”
“Just a little secret that the three of you are keeping.”
“You heard Lys, she told Gerard everything there is to tell.” I honestly don’t know if she told about Patrick but I have to believe that she did based on what she just said.
Gerard and Lys came back out happy as a can be. I felt better that another drama was avoided.
I looked at my watch, I had to leave to go get Christa. “Guys everything okay?”
“Yeah,” Gee said, “couldn’t be better.”
“I’m going to get Christa and I’m staying the night over her place.”
“Have fun, and use protection,” Gee said as I left.
After Ray left I took Lys to the living room and we sat on the couch, “So you guys had a really good time?”
“It was tough at first Emily is so confused, she’s afraid if she likes Bob her parents won’t love her.”
“That’s sad, I’m glad everything is better.”
“I also have some great news. Visitations will be every week and I was hoping you and Ray can have a cook out. I want you to meet her and I so want the two of you to get along.”
“Really?” I’m finally going to meet the little girl I’ve been hearing so much about, the little girl who’s going to be a huge part of my life soon.
“Yeah, I can’t wait for you to meet her.”
“How does Bob feel about it?”
“He said whatever I want.”
“He’s a good person, of course I’m sure he’s not too upset about the benefits.”
“He knows I love you. I think he finally accepts that you and I were meant to be together.”
I brushed away a piece of hair that fell in front of her face, she’s just breathtaking to look at. I went to lean in to kiss her and she gave a big yawn.
“Sorry,” she smiled as she yawned again. “It’s been an emotional day.”
I held her hand and rubbed her knuckles with my thumb, “I’m sure I didn’t help it.”
“You’re helping now.”
“Good,” I said. I looked at her and as much as I wanted her to stay I have to admit she looked exhausted. At her last doctor’s visit he said that her white blood count is slowly deteriorating and she needs plenty of rest and as little stress as possible. I fucked up one part of that I won’t fuck up another.
I looked in her eyes and then kissed her forehead, “Why don’t you have Bob take you home.”
“Yeah baby, you need your rest.”
“I hope soon I won’t need to go home, because my home will be with you.”
“And our little girl.”
“You make me so happy when you say things like that.”
“I aim to please, now go home and rest. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
“Bob come on we’re leaving,” she said.
“Night Bryar take care of my angel.”
I walked them to the door way and kissed her goodnight, watching as they got in the car and drove away.
“She sure has you suckered in.” It was the first time I noticed that Matt was still here.
I wonder just how much of the truth they really have told him. I’m about to find out.
“What the fuck do you have against Lys?”
“I hate the fact that she’s bedding up with a murder accomplice and you all seem to think it’s alright.”
“First of all she’s not bedding up with anyone. Secondly, what the fuck are you talking about?”
“You seriously think that nothing is going on between those two?”
“I trust Lys.”
“You just don’t want to believe what is straight in front of you. She’s getting her cake and eating it too.”
“Shut the fuck up Matt.”
I knew I was getting to him, “So if you went over the house now are you certain nothing would be going on.”
“Yeah I bet my life on it.”
“Don’t bet your life on Bryar, you see where it got Patrick.”
“That was being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
I smiled he has no clue, “Or the right place at the right time.”
“Don’t you think it was kind of odd that they went over to Bryar’s when they never did?”
“Bob said he forgot something.”
“And you believe him I suppose. I just think it’s weird that he took Patrick over on the night his father showed up.”
“What are you talking about?”
“That was no ordinary robber if it was one at all, it was Bryar’s dad.”
I watched as his eyes got huge. I knew he was putting two and two together and getting five. But what the fuck, I didn’t care about Bryar.
“Do you think Bryar brought Patrick over as a shield?” he asked me.
“You never know.”
“I need to tell Lys she’s living with the guy.”
“She knows already and so does Ray.”
“They knew and didn’t tell me?”
“Yep, it seemed that they wanted you to like Bob so they kept it a secret. Funny how it was more important that they protect Bob then telling you.”
I had to stop myself from smiling as I could see he felt the humiliation of being played at for being a fool. It was just like I felt all those years ago when he humiliated me in front of the whole school. Payback’s a bitch.
“Ray knows too?” He asked clinging onto his last bit of hope.
“Afraid so, they’ve turned their backs on you.”
I almost hated doing it he looked so hurt. He now knew his fiancée and best friend betrayed him for his worst enemy, like I said almost. Next thing I knew Gee ran out the door.
Alyssa wasn’t feeling well when they got back to the house. She was feeling nauseas and all sweaty. Bob picked her up bridal style and was about to place her on the couch when she threw up all over the both of them.
“I’m sorry,” she said before her eyes closed.
Bob took off his shirt and threw it across the room he then went to Alyssa and slowly undressed her. He pulled off the button down shirt and then pulled the tank top over her head. He swallowed hard looking at her and her stained and wet bra. He unclasped the front of her bra which freed her mounds from their constraints. He couldn’t help but stare at how beautiful they looked. He held her sleeping body close to him just wanting to feel her flesh against his. He put her down and then kissed her tenderly on the lips.
“Gerard?” she said before drifting off again.
Bob never noticed the figure outside watching the scene unfold. Gerard had a tear in his eye as he watched and misconstrued the innocent scene that had taken place. He never heard Alyssa calling his name.
When Gerard got home he packed what he could fit in his car and left leaving behind the pain brought on by the two closest people to him.
Ray and Christa arrived then next morning to an empty house. “Gee are you here?” cried out the frizzy haired guitarist. He turned to Christa, “I guess we’re alone. I’ll go make some coffee.”
Ray went into the kitchen and on the counter was an envelope with his name. He opened it, took out the paper and unfolded it.
I know that Bob’s dad killed Patrick. What I don’t know is how my best friend in the whole world could have betrayed me. Your secrets almost ended our friendship once, this time there is no almost. This time we’re through. Matt gave me the name of a guitarist, needless to say your services are no longer needed.
