"Have you ever noticed that summer each year gets more boring?" I ask, hugging my knees to my chest.
Tori, who was laying in the grass with her hands behind her head, looked up at me and said, "I noticed that when I was about thirteen." and closed her eyes again.
I rested my chin on my knees and sighed. A light breeze passed us, blowing my black hair in the wind, that's when Tori groaned and sat up.
"Frank, we're not gonna do this all summer, are we?" she asked, her blue eyes locking with my brown ones.
"Don't we always?" I ask
She was suddenly on her feet, pulling me up with her.
"Let's do something!" she pleaded.
I looked around my yard."Uh, how about we play basketball?"
She laughed at this."So I can beat you like when we were kids?"
I scoffed."I let you win."
She walked to my garage, rolling her eyes."Sure, whatever you say."
I quickly followed her."Good luck in finding a basketball in that blackhole."
"Found one!" she said, passing it to me.
"Yay." I say unenthusatically
She laughed again."You sound so excited."
"Ya know, I think I hear my mom calling for me." I say
She pulled me to the basket. "Your mom isn't even home, genius." she said, stealing the ball from me and easily scored.
I blinked. "Okay, you win. Let's do something else." I say.
She passed me the ball again. "You are gonna play, Iero. Wether you like it or not."
I started to bounce the ball. "What are we playing up too?" I ask.
She stole the ball and scored again. "Um, I don't know. Twenty?"
"Twenty?" I repeat.
She rolled her eyes. "Fine. Ten."
"Ten?"
"Oh my gosh! Five then!" she said.
I shrugged and smiled. "Okay then." I stole the ball and tempted to score, but missed.
She laughed. "If I win,I get to rub dirt in your face like I used too." she said.
"What if I win?" I ask, grabbing the ball from the ground.
"You get to buy me lunch."
I shot the ball and scored. "So, either way you win."
She got the ball."Exalty."
With that, we started the game. A short while later, the score was four to three. Tori was winning.
"YOu ready to lose, Iero?" she asked.
"I am not gonna lose, Barker." I say.
She smiled slowly and shot the ball. I went to block the shot, but somehow tripped over my own feet and fell. But my eyes never left that basketball. When it went through the hoop, Tori cheered laudly and I pulled a Darth Vader and let out a loud 'Noooooo!' She tried to get to a little patch of dirt, but I grabbed her ankle and she fell. She wresled a little, but I climbed on her and grabbed her arms and put them over her head.
"You are not getting that dirt." I said, laughing.
SHe laughed and I looked down at her and noticed how close our faced were. We stared at each other for a couple seconds, memorizing each other faces.
"Victoria!"
"That's my dad." she said at the same time I said "That's your dad."
I quickly got off her and she got to her feet and ran to her house that was next to mine.
"Bye Frank!" she called.
I didn't get off the floor. "Bye Tori." I said quietly, knowing she didn't hear me.
And that's how my summer started.
