Title: Can You Hear Me?
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Sometimes I hear her voice ringing in my ears. It won't stop ringing, and she keeps on saying the same thing... can you hear me?
Disclaimer: Lyrics from the song, Helena by My Chemical Romance as a title, also in the one-shot. Don't own the song or the band, and if I did, I wouldn't be wasting my time here.

Long ago,
Just like the hearse you,
Die to get in again,
We are,
So far from you.

Sometimes I hear her voice ringing in my ears. It won't stop ringing, and she keeps on saying the same thing... can you hear me?

I don't reply, and I just wait until she stops speaking. She never does, and the dreams won't stop. It's not like I can erase that horrific image of the day that my best friend was in the hospital, lips pale blue, and trying to utter her last dying words.

Burning on,
Just like a match you,
Strike to incinerate,
The lives,
Of everyone you knew.

The last thing she said was, "Don't cry while I'm gone, because I'm here still." I didn't do anything when her heart stopped beating, her brain stopped whirring, and the humming of Akaline Trio songs stopped completely.

And what's the worst to take,
From every heart you break,
And like a blade you stain,
Well I've been holding on tonight.

Lauren died right before my eyes. She didn't beat cancer, cancer beat her. Lauren wasn't going to go to college, or get married, or become a photographer for National Geographic. Lauren, who was fifteen and full of dreams, is now in the dead zone.

What's the worst that I could say,
Things are better if I stay,
So long and goodnight,
So long and goodnight.

Since then, her voice hasn't stopped ringing in my head. Can you hear me? I can hear you, Lauren, but I won't respond. You aren't really here, it's just my grief has driven me to utter insanity, but I can hear you.

Came a time,
When every star fall,
Brought you to tears again,
We are,
The very hurt you sold.

What have you left behind Lauren? You left behind your dearest family, especially your little sister, Meghan. Not once has Meghan stopped thinking about you, neither has Penelope or Ripley or me. Your mother can't cry anymore because she's cried over your grave, and I bet you tasted the tears.

And what's the worst to take,
From every heart you break,
And like a blade you stain,
Well I've been holding on tonight.

You broke my heart when you died. I didn't believe it, and here I am, sitting here in a corner, hearing your voice. Can you hear me, can you hear me? What will you say if I reply? Unless you tell me you're coming back, don't say a thing at all. Lauren, you didn't say goodbye, why can't you say that?

What's the worst that I could say,
Things are better if I stay,
So long and goodnight,
So long and goodnight.

I can't carry on this way, becoming sullen and mournful. I know you didn't want me to cry and I don't, but right now, I feel like crying the Nile from my eyes. At your funeral, I sang until I cried, and I looked into your closed eyes as you lie in your coffin. You were dead, and was hoping that this was a sick joke.

And if you carry on this way,
Things are better if I stay,
So long and goodnight,
So long and goodnight.

It wasn't, Lauren, you were dead. I called you Lorna, because I liked that name better. It was your real name, not your American name. Ripley, Penelope, Meghan, and me are probably more scarred than your parents ever since your death. You left behind broken hearts.

Can you hear me?
Are you near me?
Can we pretend,
To leave and then,
We'll meet again,
When both our cars collide.

Lauren, Lorna, I can hear you. I don't want to respond, because what if you never reply? It's worth hearing you say can you hear me, because I might not ever hear you again if I respond. You're gone, and the voice is my only thing to remember you by.

What's the worst that I could say,
Things are better if I stay,
So long and goodnight,
So long and goodnight.

Lorna, things would've been better if you stayed.

And if you carry on this way,
Things are better if I stay...

Goodbye, Lorna...

So long and goodnight...

I wish you...

So long and goodnight.

So long and goodnight, Lorna Ni Ionnrachtaigh...
