“Frankie?!” Gerard’s voice cried out in the dark, and I felt his hands grab mine.

“Where’s Mikey?” I asked.

“Here!” Mikey called, and Gerard yelped as his younger brother grabbed his arm.

“We can’t let go of each other, we’ve got to--” I froze. We heard the front door slam downstairs.

“Come out come out, wherever you are.” A man’s voice said snidely.

“Oh, my God.” Mikey whispered and Gerard let out a soft whimper. “What do we do?”

I opened my mouth but couldn’t seem to get the words right. “I… Run.”

“What?!” Mikey said too loudly. “Shit.” He whispered as we heard footsteps come up the stairs.

“Damn it Mikey.” I hissed and Gerard’s grip tightened on me. “Look on the count of three, run downstairs as fast as you can.”

“Frankie…” Gerard started but then Mikey’s bedroom door swung open.

I couldn’t see him too well, but I knew it was Kevin Macomber, and he had a gun. Guess he didn’t want to make another mistake.

“Oh, my God!” Mikey screamed. If Kevin didn’t kill him soon, I felt like I would.

Kevin cocked the gun and I ran forward. “Three!” I heard footsteps around me as Gerard and Mikey quickly ran down the stairs. Somehow I dodged the bullet Kevin shot out less than half a minute later – and stabbed the knife into his side. He let out a cry and shot again. This time I could actually feel the air as the bullet whizzed past my face. I held my breath and sprinted down the stairs, the knife still in my hand.

I could see Mikey and Gerard’s dark forms at the bottom of the stairs, waiting for me. “Get out!” I gasped and Mikey ran out. Gerard waited until he could grab my hand. We headed for the door, but there was another gunshot and we both hit the floor.

“Think you could get away that easy?” Kevin hissed coming down the staircase. He moved in front of the door.

Gerard and I both slowly got to our feet and Gerard was clinging to me.

“Well, looks like this is it.” Kevin raised the gun. “Five years. Finally.” He sighed.

I held my breath and out of sheer impulse I threw the knife at where Kevin stood. Amazingly it hit him, unfortunately he pulled the trigger. Once again, it hit neither of us and I grabbed Gerard’s hand and pulled him down the basement steps. I closed the door behind us and locked it.

Before I had a chance to breathe again, Gerard wrapped his arms around me hugging me tightly. “What do we do?” He mumbled.

“I don’t know, Gee…” Honestly, I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to tell him that any second Kevin would somehow get through the door and kill both of us – and Mikey was still outside in the front so while leaving Kevin would probably kill him as well.

There was a bang on the door. Gerard let out another whimper and tightened his grip around me. I took a step back, moving myself in front of him protectively. Then there was another bang on the door, “Frank, lemme in!” I blinked.

How the fuck had Eric gotten here?

I took a step forward.

“Frankie, what are you doing?”

“I can’t just leave him out there, Gerard. Kevin’ll kill him.” I hissed back.

“Frankie that’s not--”

“Frank, damn it! Open the door! He’s coming. Please open the door, man!”

“Frankie, don’t!”

I went to the door and quickly unlocked it. Only to find Kevin grinning at me. Wait, where the fuck was Eric? He cocked the gun and pointed it at me. “Bye, kid.” He said before pulling the trigger. I felt something knock me down, a sharp pain in my side and I blacked out.

Regular.

Deanna Hart pulled up to the Harmon’s household at 9:15pm. The sound of sirens and the flashing lights were giving her a headache. She ran to the nearest paramedic and asked, panic in her voice, “Are they alright? What’s happening?”

“Ma’am, I’m going to need you to move away…”

“What is happening?!” Deanna demanded angrily.

The paramedic looked at her sympathetically and shook her head.

“We’ve got two dead.”
