When we'd finally stopped laughing, we could hear bumping coming from upstairs.
"Looks like the trousers are comin' off!" Pete said, nudging me.
I giggled appreciatively but that disappeared when I saw the look Stu was giving me.
"What's so funny?"
I blushed, "N-nothing"
He nodded at the ceiling, "You think they're funny?"
"Good. Cos they're not funny, they're bloody disgusting" and he leaned in towards me, "And you remember that kid, you hear?"
I couldn't speak now, I was so afraid. I just trembled and suddenly there were tears sliding down my cheeks.
"Piss off Sutcliffe, leave Georgie alone" Pete leaned over and pushed Stu in the chest, away from me. He held me protectively in his arms. I clung to him gratefully.
"Oh isn't this cute?" Stu said nastily, eyeing us both up and down, "Best and Baby. What a pair. I'm surprised you're still a virgin Harrison"
"Give over, you're scaring him"
"Oh my heart bleeds (!)"
"Quit bothering George and go an bother Romeo and Juliet up there"
The smile washed off Stuart's face when he realised upstairs had gone silent. In an instant he got up and left, without looking twice at us. We heard his footsteps going up the stairs.
"You ok Georgie?" Pete said looking into my reddish eyes, "Oh come on you sod, it could have been worse. Don't cry" he wiped the tears away from my eyes with him thumbs, massaging my skin tenderly, "Ignore Sutcliffe, he's a dick. Always has been"
I tried to smile as I wiped the remaining wetness from my eyes, but despite the fact Pete's arm was around me, I felt like I was sinking,
down and down into the ground
into a pit of darkness...
