It was endless; everything was endless, the dark brooding sky, the vast empty ocean. Not a single person was around to hear their desperate cries for help and salvation, their voices like a whisper beneath the sea. It was there they sat, slowly awaiting their journey’s end. She was growing weak, and he was weaker. Their meager bodies trying to stay warm huddled together like penguins during the harshest of winters. Their fates were sealed, but the true question had yet to be answered. Whose journey was ending, and whose was dying out forever?

The miniscule sliver of moon cast a dim glow over the ocean; that was, until the drudging clouds rolled in, engulfing the faint light until it, too, died out at sea. The frightening crack of thunder surrounded the young pair, his eyes now widened with fear. The teen girl tilted her head toward the sky, wishing she could see the beauty of the rain before it washed her away; however, a miracle could only answer those prayers. The young man cowered away from the girl, curling into the corner of the tiny boat hoping uselessly that he would become a part of the wood and drift away with the storm.

As the lightning stuck above their heads, it illuminated the sky and turned it a bright, bleeding red. It that quick instant, he saw it coming from behind her. He braced himself and awaited impact as the teen girl sat entirely unaware. He chose not to speak as the massive wave approached, letting the girl feel content in the rain, letting her enjoy what would b the last moments of her life. He inhaled sharply as the wave inched closer, gaining in mass as it approached. He held his last breath and reached for the gentle hand of the string teen. In this moment, there was peace. She smiled her very last smile, his face frozen in fear, as the wave swallowed their tiny boat without hesitation. Fate had won, and the two whispered their final goodbyes as they rode the wave to heaven
