Chapter Six - Nothing Stays Perfect For Long
Two weeks later, everyone was back in their own homes. Lenah wasn't pregnant, at one point, she thought she was, but the pregnancy test was negative so she obviously wasn't having a baby with Frank. She was releaved that she wasn't pregnant, she didn't want Frank to ask her to marry her or anything like that because she didn't want a baby to change anything between her and Frank. They hadn't said the L word yet, but she was sure that it would come up soon.
Iris and Mikey were still warey about Better Living, Iris thought that it was possible that Better Living had attacked all of them, she thought that is wasn't concidence that they were all in hosptial on the same night and that Iris, Jessey and Lexia had the same unknown chemical in their blood.
Ray had been staying wih Jessey ever since she was released from hospital, he wanted to keep an eye on her since he was worried sick about her when he wasn't around her. Jessey loved having Ray around, she got lonely in her apartment sometimes since she didn't live with Lenah anymore.
Lexia and Gerard spent most of their time looking after Bandit, they loved her, but she was proving to be harder work than they thought she'd be, but they still loved her more than anything. Gerard and his band had been busy with the album they were making, most of the music had already been made during the BL/ind era, but they were still making some other songs, so he'd barely seen Lexia and Bandit in the passed week.
Frank, Mikey, Ray and Gerard were practicing when they heard Gerard's cell phone ringing.
"Hello?" He asked, he didn't recognize the number.
"You are not with Alexandria and Bandit right now, but you have five seconds to get there before something life changing will happen." He didn't understand.
"Who is this?" He asked, but they hung up seconds later.
He immidately got worried, he'd heard the woman's voice before, but he didn't know where from. He started dialing Lexia's number, but it went straight to voice mail.
"Hey, this is Lexia, I'm probably busy now, but if you leave a message then I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Bye."
"Lexia it's me, I just got the weirdest phone call, call me as soon as you can . . . actually, I'm coming over so I'll see you in a few."
He hung up and the guys looked at him in confusion.
"What the fuck was that about?"
"Look, I need to check on Lexia and Bandit, okay? I'll see you guys soon." He left before they could reply and he ran out the door, back to his apartment. He knew it was crazy, but he felt like he needed to go, like something bad would happen if he didn't.
As he got closer the more worried he got, there were police cars and fire trucks going in the same direction to his and Lexia's apartment.
He started running again and when he got there, he was ready to cry, The block of apartments was nothing but ash, it'd exploded.
There were people being picked up from underneith the rubble.
He waited for hours before someone told him about his wife and baby.
"We didn't find any bodies, but we found this covered in blood. Does this belong to your wife?" He almost couldn't look, but when he did, he fell apart.
He nodded with tears in his eyes. "Yeah, that's hers." It was the locket that'd been in her family for years covered in blood, he knew that she'd been wearing the necklace before he left to practice with his band. "What about my daughter?"
"We found a dead child before, they've not been identified. They were no more than a month old."
He broke down. Both his wife and daughter had been taken away from him, the two people he loved most had been taken away from him.
"That's her."
"I'm so sorry, man. I wish we could do something."
"What happened here?"
"There were explosives planted in the building."
Anger burned inside him. "So someone did this?"
"Yeah, the police are looking into it."
A few hours later, Gerard walked to his brother's place looking like a mess. Mikey had never seen his brother more destrought in his entire life.
"Dude, what the fuck happened?"
"Lexia and Bandit are dead." He said with no emotion in his voice.
"What?"
"The aparment exploded. They found Lexia's necklace covered in blood and they found a dead baby. They're gone, Mikes. They're gone." He broken down again and his brother wrapped his arms around him.
Mikey couldn't even begin to imagine what he was going through, Iris and Zack ment the absolute world to him, he couldn't think about how much it would hurt for them to be killed, for them to be taken away from him.
"Bandit hadn't even lived for fucks sake! She was only a baby! My baby. My daughter. Then Lexia . . . fuck, I can't even think about it anymore. I need them back, I need them back." He cried into his brother's shoulder.
"Gee, I don't know what to say." Mikey's eyes filled with tears, his neice and sister-in-law were dead and gone, just like that.
"Don't say anything." He wispered.
Lexia woke up in an unfamiliar place. She looked around and saw her baby sleeping in a white crib. The walls were all glass and everything was white. She wasn't wearing any of the clothes she was before and she had no idea where she was.
"Gerard?" She shouted, hoping that her husband was there, too. "Gee, were the fuck are you?" She moaned, still sleepy.
Bandit started squirming so she picked her daughter up and started rocking her from side to side to try and fget her to go back to sleep.
Lexia tried to open the glass door with one hand, but it wouldn't open. She temporarily put her daughter down and took a clip out of her hair and she used it to pick at the lock on the door. It didn't take long before it clicked and opened. She pushed the door so it was wide open and she picked up Bandit again.
Bandit was wearing a white baby grow and she was wrapped in a white blanket. Lexia walked out, expecting to be in Battery City, but she was in the Zones.
She'd not been out in the Zones since they took down BL/ind.
Lexia would've driven, but there wasn't a car seet for her daughter, so she ran into the desert. She had no idea about what Zone she was in, but she ran into the desert anyway, hoping that she wasn't too far away from Battery City. She didn't look back at the building that she'd walked out of, but if she did, then she would've seen the new Better Living head quarters for the first time that was in the outer Zones, hundreds, maybe even thousands, of miles away from Battery City.
She was still wearing her wedding ring, it was white gold with a diamond in the middle and two smaller ones at the sides of it. On the inside of the ring, there was in an inscription that read; 'forever + always'.
She looked to see if she had her cell, but it was no where to be seen.
She carried on running with Bandit in her arms until she found a small building that she'd stay in for the night. She found a laundry basket and she put in old sheets in there, trying to make a temporary bed for her daughter to sleep in.
"I love you, Bandy. I don't know where the fuck we are, but we'll be with daddy soon, I promise." She kissed her daughter's head and she fell asleep on the cold floor next to her baby girl.
In Battery City, there were explosions everywhere. It was like 2012 all over again, except that there were less people.
Mikey, Iris, Zack and Gerard had found Frank, Lenah, Jessey and Ray and they tried to find a car where they could go back into the Zones and find somewhere to stay.
Vaimey was with Daniel and his family had already gotten into the Zones, Will, Lynda and Grace had already left Battery City and Claudia and her boyfriend (Jared) weren't far behind them, but Claudia was pretty sure that her and Jared would probably find a place of their own to stay.
Zack was screaming at the top of his lungs and Iris wanted to help her baby, but she wanted him to safe even more.
They found the Trans-Am, but they all barely fit inside it, it was one of the only cars that hadn't been taken by other people trying to save themselves.
Iris was sitting on Mikey's lap and Iris was holding Zack, trying to stop him from crying. Jessey was sitting on Ray's lap and Lenah was sitting next to Jessey and Ray. Gerard was driving and Frank was sitting next to him. They were heading towards the diner, Gerard didn't know where else to go.
When they got to the diner, Lynda, Will and Grace were already there. Grace noticed straight away that Lexia and Bandit weren't there.
"Where's mom and B?" She asked.
Gerard looked down, he couldn't look in Grace's eyes when he told her that they were both dead.
"They're gone, Grace."
"W-what? No, they can't be . . ." She couldn't say dead, so she didn't. Grace wrapped her arms around her dad's waist and she cried. He tried not to let the tears fall out of his eyes, but he couldn't stop them.
They both cried, wanting nothing other than Lexia and Bandit back.
