Under The Gum Tree
3 ReviewsHOW CORNY IS THAT TITLE?!?!
ONE WEEK LATER
"Donna, are you sure that all us guys can stay in here?" I asked Donna as we were hanging out the washing.
The morning after we saved the puppies, I called up my brother to arrange for him, Ray and Bob to come to the Land Down Under. He wanted to know why I was down here, but I still didn't have a defined reason in my mind. And I was still totally falling for Donna.
"I'm sure that I'm sure. I'm surer than the surest person from Sureville." Donna replied.
"But really, there isn't that much room!" I protested. As soon as all the arrangements were made, I totally only just remembered the detail of where everyone was gonna sleep.
"There will be six of us, yeah? If you don't mind sharing, two people can go in the spare room, two people in my bed room, one on the couch and I can sleep on the floor somewhere in my swag!" She exclaimed with a smile.
No, it's bad enough that you're already sleeping on the couch. Why should you be demoted to the floor?" I grumbled. I was - reluctantly - using Donna's bedroom.
"I've slept in worse. Try sleeping in the kitchen at a relative’s when all the adults are sill up and using the room, lights on. " Donna retorted. "And I may, or may not, have slept in the park overnight a few times." She added quickly and looked away from me. I had the urge to pick her up and hold her in my arms. Why did she have to be subjected to that? Yeah, I may have done that a few times when I was too drunk to get home, but Donna being female made it different. Predators were more likely of attacking a young woman than a man.
"And what of privacy? And food and all sorts of other stuff?" I asked, changing subjects. These were other things we had to consider.
"Privacy... Whateves. And food and shit, no biggie." Donna said simply.
"Are you gonna be able to afford enough food for five extra men? And the water and electricity usage? Are you sure that you can pay for all that?" I argued.
"Gee, drop it. Everything will be okay. End of subject." Donna picked up the empty, plastic clothes basket and took it inside.
I did something between a sigh and a groan. I was feeling as if I forced all this on Donna. First I just randomly rock up. Then Frank joins. Now I'm practically asking her to let me bring over 3 more people. Not even asking. And Donna was letting me, no protest from the start. And when she gave me that puppy that we saved, she was even paying for everything that we needed for Misfitted too.
Who cares? I thought. She's just a fan, a nobody. I am Gerard Way. The lead singer of My Chemical Romance. There are people everywhere who would do anything for me. Why should I care about this one nobody?
"Donna is not a nobody!" I said out loud to myself. How could I have thought something like that? It's not even like me to be like that. I did care.
I let out something between a groan and a sigh. I kicked at a batch of burrs growing in the half-dead grass. Fuck this, I was in a serious mess. I couldn't call up Mikes and tell him to abort mission. He wouldn't listen, and he would just come anyway. And I couldn't just get up and leave Donna. I owed her for all she's done for me now, and I just couldn't leave her either. It would hurt me emotionally on so many levels...
Frank's P.O.V
" Oh my gosh, Bobert will be here tomorrow!" I exclaimed, and danced around the hallway when Donna came back inside with the white basket in her hands.
"I know!" She replied, gushing the way two fan-girls would when they discovered their idol's favourite colour. Donna walked into the bathroom slash laundry.
"And Mikey and Ray!" I added. Gosh it would be awesome to be back with my bros. Ray would like Donna coz for once he wouldn't have to bend down a bit to talk to people seeing as she was his height. Donna loved cooking but not really eating, while Ray hated cooking and would be happy to eat what she plated up, so they would both get along nicely. Look out, Gee. You got competition!
"Yeah, that's gonna make things fun around here." Donna replied, coming back through the doorway with three fat puppies in her arms. I immediately reached for my little Fudge Bandit. She was a fat little puppy now, but not as fat as Gerard's. His little bugger was the greediest thing ever.
Only a week old, neither Nyx, Fudge Bandit nor Misfitted could hear or see anything. In two more weeks, maybe.
"Let’s take our pups outside for a bit," Donna suggested, "Gee's still outside. Could you grab the sun block?" Donna asked, nodding to the white pump-bottle hanging by its handle on a bronze hook next to the door. After I grabbed the bottle, I followed Donna out into the - surprisingly - warm sunlight.
"Jesus. Isn't it winter here?" I asked.
"Yeah. I think its cold enough to be." Donna replied carelessly.
"This is cold? What's summer like, the surface of the sun?"
"Try over 40° Celsius. You being from Jersey, I'm guessing you wouldn't last too long in January."
"Yeeeah..." I trailed off as We found Gerard sitting under one of the eucaluptus, sketchbook out.
Donna and I sat next to him, Donna handing him Misfitted.
"Here's your little girl." Donna said, and I couldn't help but grin at the double meaning in her words.
"A-thank you." He replied, closing his sketchbook and putting it on the grass. I filled up my hand with the block-out Donna made me bring out, and wiped it over my arms. Then over my neck and face. Donna, who was wearing long clothes and a hat, applied some to only her nose. Gerard needed some persuasion. And by that, I mean a block out war.
"Um, no." Gerard said when Donna asked him to put some of the sun block on.
"'Why?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Coz it's winter, we're in the shade and I don't get sunburnt. I tan." Gerard replied, thinking he was being clever, but then was defeated.
"Gerard, this is the Australian sun. It's a bitch, and it don't matter whether it's winter or if ya in the shade, you could still get hit by UV rays." Donna stated, "and as for tanning, that's just a ticket for skin cancer."
"" Well, you're not exactly lily-white yourself, are you?"
"Idiocy as a kid who loved to play outside and muster at my uncle's farm. I'm betting on getting cancer, but it's not too late for you, Gee." Donna flicked some of her left-over sun block at him.
I laughed and just had to join in, splatting hand prints all over Gerard.
"Win!" I cried out, because Donna and I successfully got the sun block on the other man. Gerard rolled his eyes and rubbed it in.
"Was that so hard?" Donna asked in a motherly tone.
"Yeah, I lost a finger." Gerard replied sarcastically.
Sun block problem solved, we all turned our attentions to our puppies, who managed to crawl a metre away from us in the last three minutes. Donna crawled away from the tree trunk towards Nyx, who was head butting a plastic pot plant container.
I shuffled across to Gerard, who was watching Donna.
"Gee," I said in a low voice, "what are we gonna do about tomorrow? Is Donna cool with all this?" I was hoping that he could have figured out where we were all gonna go when the boys came tomorrow.
"Donna say's that we're all staying here and not to worry." Gerard replied.
"And... You're gonna let her?" I enquired. Donna's house wouldn't be able to take more people.
"No! But she won't let me talk to her about it."
"Then... What we do?" I knew that we owed Donna and we could at least sort this out.
Gerard was silent for a moment. "I have an idea.""
Donna's P.O.V
The guys were talking about something... I don't know what. Maybe about tomorrow.
I wished Gerard would just leave it, I was fine with Ray, Bob and Mikey coming to stay for however long they needed. Part of me was going into "fan-girl overdrive", but I knew that if Gerard was down here, then the guys would soon follow. They were all best friends, like brothers. And I thought that it would be really cool to be able to hang with the members of My Chemical Romance.
I watched as Nyx started to sniff at a patch of grass, he was so cute. I couldn’t wait for him to be able to hear and see because then I could start to train him. For a moment I was thinking about whether to have him an inside dog or outside dog, and whether his black coat would make him overheat in the summer.
I looked at my watch. 12:47PM. Lunch time for the guys. I picked up Nyx, Fudge Bandit and Misfitted and moved back near Frank and Gerard.
“Frankie, are you gonna make lunch today?” I asked as the two men picked up their pups. Gerard’s face looked a little worried at my request, but Frank grinned.
“Yes!” He replied. “What cha want me to make?”
“Anything you want. Not for me though, I’m not hungry.”I lied. Not that I didn’t trust Frank’s cooking, but because I really didn’t need the food.
“What don’t want Frank’s Cajun? “ Gerard asked, standing up.
“Gerard, you’re gonna be surprised!” Frank exclaimed, and quickly walked inside, with me right behind him. Gerard got up a bit slower than me and didn’t reach the back door until Frank and I were in the kitchen.
“Frank, remember what I taught you?” I whispered, to which Frank simply grinned.
After I learned about his “burning food” thing, I had been giving Frank some cooking lessons when Gerard was in the art room. Frank and I kept this a secret to surprise Gerard, and now that Frank was good enough,
“Good,” I replied with a smile. “I’ll leave you to it.”
Frank's cooking?!?!?! :o
