"Good Morning Ms. Henderson!" I smiled at the familiar old woman as I rushed to pour her another cup of coffee, before moving onto the next customer.

"Oh! Good morning Eva! So nice to see you back." After filling every mug on the counter, I pulled out my order pad and basically ran to a booth by the window. I've only been back from college for the summer 3 days, and my parents already had me working. It was good to be home, but even better to be back at the diner. Like every Saturday morning, we were especially busy; the line was out the door, and every table was filled. I had been working at the family diner since I was 14, so almost everyone that stopped knew me and my story. Of course you always have the people that forget your name, or want to make small talk about your classes but other than that, I had to say that I was being pretty efficient. And I already set a new personal record; I made it through the 2 busiest hours of the day and I only spilled 1 cup of coffee.

"Have a great day Mr. and Mrs. Jenson!" I called, after ringing one of the regular couples out at the cash register. I sighed, watching more cars speed into the parking lot. If you'd never eaten here before, you would have sworn that we put crack in our pancakes and weed in our coffee. I dropped another order with my dad in the kitchen, before my mom realized that I wasn't working.

"Eva Katherine Beck, grab some menus and get your tush over to table 19." After grabbing some menus, and adjusting the name tag on my red apron, I made my way to the little table in the back of the restaurant, my worn black converse squeaking against the checkered tile floor. On my way to the new customers, I ran the options through my head. Mother, father and kids? Church organization? Before I looked up to confirm my guesses, I reached for my order pad.

"My name's Eva, and I'll be taking care of you guys this morning. Can I start you off with something to drink?" When I looked up to hand out the menus, I couldn't believe my eyes. 5 guys, dressed in black leather and dark jeans, stared back at me. They were all extremely attractive. One, with raven black hair finally answered me.

"We'll all have coffee." A smirk lingered on his perfect pink lips. I nodded and scribbled something down before leaving to get their drinks. After taking another order and delivering a few more plates of pancakes, I grabbed a fresh pot of coffee, some creamer and headed back to the table of mysterious boys. Once I arrived, they stopped talking and all looked at the one with the dark black hair, who just looked at me.

"Here's your coffee guys." I nervously poured them each a cup. "Ready to order?" I asked, pulling a pen from my pocket. One with glasses ordered an omelet, the tallest ordered a breakfast sandwich, a cute little one with tattoos ordered a stack of pancakes and one with blondish hair and a lip ring ordered eggs. When it was the last ones turn, he cocked his head to the side, and smirked at me again. Then he extended his hand towards me.

"I'm Gerard." Oh, now I got it. He had to be one of those self proclaimed "rebels" who thought they could just waltz in here and act all cool by treating me like a piece of shit. Well, that wasn't going to work today.

"Listen, Gerard, I've got a lot of other tables to wait on so are you going to order or not?" The one with the tattoos giggled under his breath. A look of surprise crossed Gerard's face but he quickly regained his bad ass persona.

"Well," He squinted at my name tag. "Eva, there seems to be a problem here."

"And that would be?" I was getting pissed.

"The thing that I want to order isn't on the menu." He leaned back in his chair and pulled off his leather jacket, revealing a tight white tee shirt.

"Well what the hell do you want to order?" I waived my pen in the air, and tapped my toe, impatiently.

"You." He smiled again. Now, I snickered.

"Wow. Where'd you get that pick up line? The back of a cereal box?" And with that I spun on my heel, and stalked away from their table. As soon as I left, I heard the rest of the table start laughing and making fun of Gerard. I actually found myself smiling as I dropped their order off in the kitchen, and thought a little more about our confrontation. It was hard to believe, but I actually felt kinda attracted to Gerard...even if he was a bad ass with cheesy pick up lines. When their food was ready, I loaded it all onto a tray, balanced it on my shoulder like I had done hundreds of times before, and headed back to their corner. As soon as I came into view of their table, Gerard jumped up and met me before I could balance the tray on the side of their table.

"You need some help sugar?" He rested one of his hands on the small of my back and the other on my stomach, and led me over to the table.

"Okay, seriously? Stop acting like such a dick before I kick your ass out of here." I hissed in a whisper, so none of the other customers would hear and get the wrong impression.

"Oh, so we've got a little rebel on our hands?" Gerard took his hands off of me and fell back into his seat. I passed out all of the food as quickly as I could.

"What makes you think that I'm a rebel? The fact that I'm not afraid to stick up to people like you?" Everyone else at the table shot glances at each other, before quietly starting to eat.

"Well you're rebelling against me. Ya see, none of this would have happened if you just would have let me flirt with you." Gerard pursed his lips, and picked up his coffee cup. Than the unthinkable happened. I let my guard down. I showed his that I was kinda into him. I laughed. As soon as I saw that he noticed my weakness, I pulled out their check and slapped it down on their table.

For the rest of the afternoon there was only one thought crossing my mind. Gerard. Something about him just made me feel anxious and nervous all at the same time....and I kinda like it. By the time 2 o'clock had finally rolled around, I was just finishing cleaning a few tables. After realizing the time, I headed to the back room, and exchanged my apron and name tag for my hoodie and purse. After pulling my hair into a high pony tail, I examined my reflection in the mirror; my cheeks were flushed from my busy morning, my tight white v-neck and black, boot-cut jeans had miraculously stayed clean, and my old, navy blue hoodie would protect me from the unseasonably cold weather. I dug around in my purse until I found a tub of my favorite red lip stick. After applying a thin coat, I hugged my parents good-bye and headed out of the diner's back door. I hadn't taken three steps, when a familiar voice stopped me.

"Hey, Eva!" I turned around to find Gerard leaning against the the back of the building. He threw a cigarette to the ground and stomped it out before closing the distance between us. I rolled my eyes.

"Listen, I really don't have time for this Gerard." I tried to turn from him, but he stopped me.

"Please. Listen, I'm sorry. I was a total ass and I'm sorry about that, but I need you to give me another chance. I can make this up to you." He pleaded, looking down at me. I didn't know what to do, or what to say, so I just stood frozen; desperately searching for the right words to say.

"What?" That was all I could manage to say. My voice was barely a whisper.

"Guess what I'm trying to say is, Eva, will you go at with me tonight?" Now his devilish grin was back. I leaned a little closer to him, and decided to play off of his attitude. I leaned a little closer to him.

"Really?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. Gerard chuckled.

"Oh, really." His cool breath washed over me. Then, he fumbled around in his pocket before pulling out an envelope and handed it to me. "Here, I kinda put this together while you were working." I flashed him a smile, before opening up the envelope.

"A concert, in Newark?" My eyes lit up.

"Yea. It starts at 8. But, I'll meet you there. I've got to take care of a few things first." Suddenly Gerard seemed to get a little nervous.

"Sure." Once again, I had no clue what to do. And I could only manage to spit out one word. Tonight I would be going out on a date, with a bad ass who used cheesy pick up lines, and I couldn't wait at all!
