Blood Stained Skies

Gun shots echo through out the muggy air. Powder fills the soldier's noses as they travel through the muddy terrain. Ryan and Brendon try to sprint for safety in a near by ditch. Brendon, being the more muscular out of the two, is ahead by a few strides. As the gun shots get closer, Brendon jumps into a bush for refuge. Ryan, not seeing the opportunity, continues to run past Brendon.
The force strikes Ryan quicky, hitting him in the upper abdomen. Ryan immediately collapses onto the ground. Still being fully exposed to the situation, he drags himself to hide behind a tree.
When the commotion dies down, Brendon emerges from his hiding spot. Ryan is nowhere to be seen. Brendon begins to make his way back to base camp.
Where's Ryan? Brendon thinks to himself. He begins tracking backwards.
"Brendon get the fuck out of here!" A soldier yells across the field questioning why he's running the wrong direction.
"I need to find Ryan!" Brendon cries.
A soft sob is coming from the bushes to his left- not having time to question whether he wants to see who it is, he glances to see his best friend lying there, motionless.
"Ryan," Brendon tries to keep himself from crying out too loud. Blood covers some of the forest floor, with Ryan's left side bleeding heavily. Brendon quickly picks up Ryan in his arms and hurries back to camp. "Help us! He's been shot!" Brendon cries loudly. "I need someone to help us!" Ryan whimpers after Brendon's words.
"Take him in the helicopter!" A soldier of a higher ranking calls.
Brendon puts Ryan onto the board to put him on the helicopter.
"We'll take it from here." A nurse says, pulling off Ryan's gear.
"I can't leave him! I need to go with him!" Brendon says demandingly. The nurse stares at him, Brendon not willing to fight.
More nurses surround Ryan tending to his blood loss. "We need to take him to safety." A nurse says taking control of the situation. Brendon grabs Ryan's hand.
"Ryan come on. Don't die now. Don't die here." Brendon demands. Ryan is loaded into the helicopter as Brendon remains by his side.
