"You don't need to do this, Sav." She heard the voices in her head talking to her as she stood over her bathroom sink, staring at herself in the mirror. "Savannah I'm going to Dru's for a bit, will you be alright till I get back?" she heard her best friend and flatmate Ashley shout through the door. "Sure, see you later," she tried to sound happy as she replied, only she didn't think she'd succeeded. "Ring me if you need me to come home ok? Love you Sav," she heard a jingling of car keys and the slam of the main door to the apartment. Silence. She looked back at herself in the mirror, her thick brown hair scraggy and unbrushed, her skin pale and tear stained. She then looked down at the blade settled in the middle of the sink. "Fuck it," she muttered underneath her breath, slowly picking it up. She winced as it made contact with her skin, but she continued. More and more lines appeared on her arms as tears of blood trickled from them and into the sink. "You don't need this, Sav. You're so much better than this." The voices in her head were making her wonder if she should stop, she dropped the blade back into the sink and brought her arms back to her sides. She looked down as her blood trickled into the plug hole from the knife and on to the bathroom floor from her arms. Who would miss me anyway? She gently dabbed at the cuts on her arms, as to help stop the bleeding. The only people I really talk to are Ash, Dru and Stefan, and they're not here. I can't do this anymore. Savannah dragged herself to the bathroom door, twisting the handle and walking out into the apartment, and then down the hallway into her bedroom. She pulled a jacket out of her wardrobe, a packet of cigarettes and a lighter from her bedside table, slipped her feet in to some shoes and left the apartment.

As she opened the door and walked out on to the roof, she could see the whole town, all of the bright lights illuminating the pitch black sky. She pulled a cigarette out of the packet and brought it to her lips, lighting it and breathing in the smoke.

Sav I'm on my way to yours, is the door open? X Stefan put his phone back into his pocket as he hopped off the bus and headed in the direction of Savannah and Ashley's apartment. When he arrived, he noticed the door was open. He pushed it further and peered inside and noticed a trail on the floor, leading from the bathroom and down the hallway to Savannah's bedroom. As he got closer to inspect, he saw that it was blood, a thin line of red droplets. He ran to the bathroom, seeing the blade in the sink, covered in blood. "Sav, no," he mumbled to himself, turning around and running to Savannah's bedroom. He noticed that her red high tops, cigarettes and smoking jacket were gone, and swiftly left the apartment, knowing exactly where she'd be.

Savannah slowly breathed out, watching the cloud of smoke thin out and float away. She was standing on the edge of the building now, and dropped the butt onto the floor beside her. It won't hurt that much, she thought to herself. I'll be too cold, I won't feel anything. She looked down at the city below her, one minute to midnight.

She turned around, almost too quickly, keeping her balance and saw someone walking through the door. "Thought I'd find you up here," Stefan. Savannah stepped away from the edge of the building and towards Stefan, looking up at his face as a tear pricked in her eye. She fell into him as he opened his arms, holding her in his tight embrace as she silently cried into his chest. "Why did you do it?" he spoke softly as he stroked her hair. "You know why," he pulled away and sat on the floor, pulling her down into his lap. "Everything will pick up, I told you it would, you just need to give it time,"
"That's easy for you to say. My dad killed himself, my mum turned to drugs, alcohol and prostitution and couldn't look after me, you're all I have left Stef," she sounded angry at him but hadn't intended to, and she saw Stefan's face drop. "I know," he replied, holding her closer to him. He gently rolled back the sleeves of her hoodie, revealing the red lines imprinted into her skin. "I'm sorry," she breathed out, tears racing down her cheeks now. "Its okay," he bent his head forwards and softly pressed his lips to the wounds, as to not hurt Savannah. "It'll help them heal, mum used to do it to me if I hurt myself when I was little," Stefan used his thumb to rub the tears away from Savannah's cheeks, making a small smile print onto her face. "You know I'll always be here, Sav. Why didn't you ring me?"
"Ash had gone to Dru's, I thought you'd be there as well,"
"Even if I was, you know I'd come to check on you if you were home alone," Savannah dug herself further into Stefan's chest, taking in his scent. "I thought you'd stopped smoking as well," Savannah let a quiet laugh escape from her mouth at Stefan's comment. "There were a couple left, you wouldn't stop eating half way through your dinner would you?"
"Suppose not," Stefan laughed as he flicked open the lid of the packet. "Go on. There's one left. Make sure it's your last one though, I hate you hurting yourself,"
"Screw it," she took the cigarette out of the packet, snapped it in half and dropped it on the floor, letting the wind carry it away. "I'm proud of you for doing that Sav," Stefan whispered in her ear as she watched it roll away. She turned back to him and wrapped her legs around his waist in an attempt to make them both warmer. They let their foreheads fall together, looking intensely in to each others eyes. They edged closer together, until their lips finally touched, softly and slowly moving in time with the wind. "I love you Sav," Stefan whispered as they broke apart. "I love you too Stef," she replied, tightly hugging him before standing up and helping Stefan off the floor. "You don't need to hurt yourself anymore. You've got me, and I'm going to do my best to protect you from everything. Nothing can get you anymore." he spoke just above a whisper, gripping Savannah's hands tightly. "Forever?" she questioned.
"Forever," he replied, letting her fall back in to his arms.
