Loving Parents Don't Leave in the Middle of Their Child's Concert
4 ReviewsProbably wrong category. ........True story bro, just fucking happened.
Her father, younger sister, godmother, and a few others were out there too, she knew. She played well for them, she was trying to be the best she could have possibly been.
As the band played their last notes, and she got off the stage, she heard the applause swell up. She heard people cheering for other people in the band, the drummer, the trombones. She expected to hear someone she knew cheer for her, but nothing came. She wasn’t too disappointed though, and she got off the stage with her head held high.
She waited for the high-school bands to finish their sets, then after the concert was over, she went to find her family. She saw her dad and her obnoxious little sister, but no one else.
“Where’s mom?” She was the only one who mattered right now. She wanted to make her proud, she had never come to a performance before.
“Oh, your mother left in the first song. Put away your trumpet, and we’ll go home.”
Just like that, everything was ruined. It all went to hell. Izzy put her trumpet, along with her music, into her case, and threw it into the back of her father’s little yellow car. She climbed into the front seat, struggling not to burst into tears.
How could she do that? The first fucking song. She should have known. If her mother had skipped every other performance, why would she stay for this one, her best one yet? The worst of it was, not only had she left, but she had taken everyone but her dad and her little sister with her. No one had gotten to hear her.
As her father drove home, he was being as loud, rude, and obnoxious as possible. He played disgusting music, singing along badly to everything. When she told him to shut up, crying, he had told her he didn’t give a damn that she was hurt, and that she was being rude.
Rude! how on EARTH was she rude? Whatever, her dad was an obnoxious prick that hated her guts anyway.
When he pulled up to their house, she jumped out of the car, grabbed her stuff, and ran inside. She went straight to her room, in the very back of the house. On her way there, though, she passed her mother’s door. She peeked in, expecting to not see her, she suspected she got called by work with an emergency. That would be better than her just leaving like that. But no, when she peeked into her parent’s room, she saw her mother sleeping on the bed.
What? She had left her concert to come home and take a fucking nap?!
What the fucking hell.
Her mother knew how important this was to her, how much her daughter wanted her to be there to see her preform at least once. But no, she had left so she could take a fucking nap.
Apparently, she had her priorities fucking straight.
Izzy ran to her room, picked up her guitar yeah, she plays guitar too. deal., and angrily let out a few riffs. That served to calm her down a bit, not much, but enough to realize that her mother just didn’t give two shits and didn’t really care too much at all.
A few minutes later, her mom walked in.
“honey, are you okay? You were great tonight!”
“How would you know?”
“What do you mean, I was there!”
“BULLSHIT. You left in the middle of the first goddamned song. You didn’t hear anything”
her mother was speechless.
“No, I left after the third song.”
“Gee, that makes it a ton better, doesn’t it? And no, both dad and Andrea (her little sis) said you left in the middle of the first song. Dad has it on video, would you like to see? Oh wait, that’s all you would see because after you left the fucking camera died and so you can’t even watch it on tape.” She snarled at her mother.
Mom just stood there for a second, before leaving. She stopped in the doorway, and said “You should change out of those concert clothes.” Then she left.
~~~
Half an hour later, her mom came in again.
“Have you stopped being so stubborn?” She asked.
“STUBBORN?! you left in the middle of a concert, so you can take a nap, and you say I’m stubborn?! You’re just plain rude, and fucking hurtful!”
“Look, I’ll take you out for icecream tomorrow. Will that make it better?”
Izzy said nothing, shocked at how her mother thought icecream would suddenly make everything okay. She turned away, and locked her eyes on her laptop screen, waiting for her mother just to leave.
When she finally did, Izzy collapsed and went to sleep.
Some fucking parents really love their children, huh?
