Trial #2:

Bude's Interview with Noriko:

"Please state you name."

"Noriko Sun."

"So you're Korean?"

"That's right."

"How long have you been working at Beach Radio Magazine?"

"Three years."

"Three years?"

"That's right."

"I see." She scribbled down some notes. Noriko swallowed a bit. Mrs. Bude happened to glance up at her when she did.

"I'm sorry, do I make you nervous?"

Noriko shook her head. "No."

"You sure?"

"Yes. Yes."

"Okay then." She jots down more notes. Noriko let the ticking clock in the background calm her down a little. Mrs. Bude glanced back up at her.

"Do you have your portfolio of your work with you?"

"Yes ma'am, I do."

"Show it to me."

"Yes ma'am." Noriko pulled out her portfolio and presented to the woman. Mrs. Bude took it and looked over each part. Noriko gripped her chair.

Adam was right, she thought. She is scary! The clock's ticking got louder in the background.

Mrs. Bude glanced up at her. "This it?"

"Yes ma'am."

"I see." She wrote down more notes. Noriko tried to read what she was writing. Mrs. Bude moved the clip board from her eyes. The younger woman sat up straight.

"Just one more question," Mrs. Bude said.

"What?" Noriko asked.

"How old are you?"

"Twenty-two."

"And long have you been working here?"

"Three years."

"So, you started working here when you were nineteen?"

"Yeah."

"How did you get a big job like this at nineteen?"

"An internship."

"While you were still in school?"

"Yeah..."

"Uh-huh." She jotted down more notes. The older woman looked up at her.

"Okay," she said. "Thank you for your time."

Noriko blinked at her. "That's it?"

"Yeah, you are free to go now."

Noriko tried her best to keep it together. "Thank you ma'am." She bowed her head, picked up her bag, and walked out the door.

The poor soul spent the rest of her day hiding in a bathroom stall trembling in belated fear.
