Chapter 33
A Tale that Changes it All
I opened my eyes and saw shaggy black hair and dark purple eyes. The boy was staring intently, clearly worried. Why did he look familiar?
“Kurono? Are you alright?”
I stared at the boy and it suddenly clicked
“Ryu?!”
The boy smiled
“That was a nasty fight, but I only saw the wreckage. You got captain Kenpachi good”
Before I could say any thing someone was holding my right hand
“Kuro-chan?! Are you alright?!”
I looked at Seji and couldn't help but smile. His cigarette was practically gone and his blue eyes burned with worry.
“I'm fine, can you…?”
Zelo’s hand slammed into the back of Seji’s head
“Let go of her hand, you idiot! You're hurtin’ her”
“Am not! Kuro-chan, is your Seji hurting you? Just say the word and I’ll let go”
“The word, now let go”
Seji sighed and removed his hand to light a new cigarette. I looked up at Zelo and smiled
“Hey moss-head. How’s your captain? I hope I didn’t kill him”
“He’s still alive. I have no idea how. Your blast burned the men all around you and Zaraki got the main front of it!”
I sat up as they all sat down in chairs by my bed.
“I really don't know what to say… I got carried away?”
Yoruichi apeared in the door way frowning
“You could say that again. Now all the captains are asking too many questions. And now captian Mayuri Kurotsuchi wants to experiment on you. My fake paper work might not hold out.”
She walked in, sat, and sighed.
“When your wound heals we’ll go back to training. Understood?”
I nodded as a short knock came from the open door. We all turned to see two men and a woman. The first man had the appearance of an old man with red eyes, a very long white beard, and long eyebrows. There was a pair of long, perpendicular scars above his right eye, suggesting numerous battles in his past. He wore the standard Shinigami uniform, but its size was greatly exaggerated. His haori was draped over his back instead of actually wearing it. A cane was in both his hands as he slowly walked into the room.
“Head Captian?”
All the people around my bed stood and bowed to the old man. I cast my eyes from the man to the couple behind him. The man had long black hair and deep purple eyes. He wore a strange purple kimono with a black sash tied around his waist. Over his left side a was a white cape. The way it layed left his right arm exposed. The kimono sleaves were short so his right forearm was exsposed. On his arm was a black line tattoo of a Jackal, a Crow, and a Tiger. It was just a Jackal’s head at the back overlapping the head of the tiger. The crow lay over both, full in body. But they were distincted enough to be able to tell what animals they were. My brain kicked into an over drive of info.
The tiger, symbolizes invincibility, power and might. The tiger also shows passion, ferocity, sensuality, speed and beauty. The animal is also known for its cruelty and wrath. According to Japanese tradition if you see a tiger in a dream it denotes the coming of a new power your way. The tiger is a symbol to ward off evil. It has also been a symbol that represents the destructive qualities of evil.
The Jackal its self is a scavenger, digging up dead bodies and the sort. It is also the animal used to represent the Egyptian god of the dead, Anubis. Who, is represented as a black jackal or dog, or as a man with the head of a dog or jackal. He was the guide of the dead as they made their way through the darkness of the underworld. As a patron of magic, it was believed he could foresee a person’s destiny, in this role he was the announcer of death. He is also the god of orphans, travelers, and the lost.
Crows are sometimes considered to symbolize an omen. They can be good or bad depending on the context they are being used in and what culture is talking about them. Since they are in the same family as the raven they are often associated with death and darkness.
I stared at the tattoo, feeling like I should know it. I looked back to the man's face. He wore a stony look but laugh lines could be seen around his eyes and mouth. His hair was tied back in a long ponytail and he had long bangs that framed the left and right side of his face, leaving his eyes barely visable. A Zanpakutō hilt stuck out of his belt on his left side, partly covered up by the cape. It had a light gray grip and a white chain. At the end was a tiger’s head. I put my eyes on the woman. She shifted under my stare
She was a small woman, shorter than me, with short dark brown hair tied up in a white ribbin. Blue eyes shifted around the room untill they stopped on my face. She smiled and nodded, showing perfict white teeth. She wore the same style of kimono as the man but she wore a black cape and it was over her right side. Her sash was white and was longer, almost dragging the ground. In her belt was a Zanpakuto as well. The handle was white with a gray chain hanging from it. At the end if the chain was a metal Crow. A black chain necklace hung from her neck with the symbol of the three animals. The old man spoke
“We are here to see the Soul Reaper, Kurono Suzuki. Alone”
Everyone stood and left. Seji and Zelo cast me a mournful glances and I smiled at them, mouthing that I’d be ok. But deep down I felt like this old man was bad news.
“Kurono Suzuki, do you know who I am?”
I eyed him up and down, frowning
“No”
“I am head captain Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto.”
“Good for you”
The old man’s eyes widened, but he brushed off my snarkyness and gestured to the people behind him
“This is Yukisuno and Eijida-ku, the leading members of the Suzuki clan. They are here to…”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!!” I threw my hands up “Hold the phone! What do you mean the Suzuki clan? That’s…that’s my last name… there's no connection….is there? Cuz if there is I…”
Yamamoto slammed his cane on the floor
“Enough! Yukisuno and Eijida-ku Suzuki have come here to accept you into your rightful place as the head in the Suzuki clan.”
I felt dizzy
“I can't be the head of a clan… I know I used to be royalty but that was…”
“Now that you have been committed into the Suzuki clan you have been excluded from the punishment of your crime.”
“What crime? I'm a Soul Reaper, new from the academy.”
“We both know that this is not true. But due to your standing in the Suzuki clan, this excludes you from the jurisdiction of Gotei 13. And because Captain Zaraki attacked you and invoked the fight, given he had no idea of your social standing, neither of you have committed treason”
I stared blankly at him then at the man and woman. The man stepped forward and whispered in the Head Captain’s ear.
“Of course, you may speak”
Yamamoto started out of the small room but tilted his head back to me.
“You should thank your family for stepping up when they did”
I nodded
What does my family have to do with anything? Is it because their royal?
The woman sat in the chair Seji had once occupied and the man sat on the edge of the bed.
“It's been awhile Kurono. Do you remember your time here?”
“No. And I don't belong to any clan in the Soul Society. I was human, as was my family.”
The man shook his head; his voice came sad but soothing
“Alas, that is not true.”
“What do you mean?”
The woman spoke in a small voice
“Over 2000 years ago there were only three main noble families. The Shihōin family, The Kuchiki family, and the Suzuki family. Over the years more have been added to the ranks but these were the originals. Both the Shihōin family and the Kuchiki family have had dealings with the clan, they will not admit our families involvement with their affairs.”
“Why are you telling me this?”
The man pipped up
“The 2nd head of the Suzuki family was a man named Isamuda-ku. His wife was Yakunan. They had three children. Their first child was a girl by the name of Katsu. She was meant to become the head of the family with no siblings. But when she was 17 her parents had twin girls by the name of Sukirin and Kurorin. When they were born a great amount of Reiatsu was felt through out the whole world. But it wasn’t the normal Shinigami Presure. It was equal to a hollows. Someone in the royal families deemed them too dangerous to live and ordered them exiled; no one knew who issued the order but it was to be carried out. Isamuda-ku tried to reason with them that his daughters were not dangerous. But his voice went unheard. If he would not kill the children, then the whole family would be exciled.
So he decided that his twin daughters would leave the Soul Society with a friend of the family, Akio Ookami, in exchange his original family would stay intact.
Soon the plan was set into action. Akio and the two girls were stripped of their Shinigami powers and sent to the real world. But soon after Isamuda-ku missed his daughters and went to visit them.
So Isamuda-ku went to see his children while Isamuda-ku’s own twin brother, Taroda-ku, disguised himself as Isamuda-ku to hide his abstains.
When He went to see them he found Akio living as a swords master to a great family and the girls were adopted by a woman named Fuyu. Akio concluded that the woman had what he called The Sight, which is now known as high Reiatsu. The woman was the daughter of a lord and had no husband or family of her own.
Isamuda-ku went back to the Soul Society, planning on telling his wife that their children were safe. But Isamuda-ku was appalled at what he found. Taroda-ku and Yakunan had planned to take over the Suzuki household from the start and the girls were the perfect opportunity. Everyone seemed to forget about Isamuda-ku and accepted Taroda-ku as the 3rd head of the family. Taroda-ku discovered his brother and decided to follow him to his daughters, planning on tying up any loose ends.
In despair Isamuda-ku ran to the human world with Taroda-ku on his heals. He found Akio and Fuyu and told them of the disaster. Isamuda-ku, enraged that his daughters were now in danger again, went to fight Taroda-ku on his own.
The fight lasted for hours with Isamuda-ku being the one with the upper hand. But Taroda-ku gained control of the fight and almost killed Isamuda-ku. But at the last moment Isamuda-ku was able to escape and Taroda-ku was too wounded to peruse.”
I yawned and leaned farther back on my pillow
“How long is this gonna take?”
“Please have patience. Kurono.”
“Well this has nothing to do with me.”
“But it does, just listen. Isamuda-ku met with Akio and Fuyu. He had lost his wife and his family name. He gave up all rights to his powers and built a small house of his own. After a year Isamuda-ku married Fuyu, changing her name to Suzuki and rightfully making her the new mother of his children who were now a year and 5 months old. They lived happily for many years, raising their daughters, trying hard to forget about the events that lead to this.
Many years later the now married Katsu Tetsu, Isamuda-ku first daughter who had been claimed as Taroda-ku’s child, became the 4th head of the Suzuki family. She discovered the events behind her father’s disappearance and searched him out in the human world, bringing her two sons, Shiroda-ku and Tarosuno with her. Taroda-ku found out about her plan to bring Isamuda-ku back to the Soul World and issued her a traitor to the family, ordering her capture; afraid that his take over may come to light. Katsu did find her real father but upon arriving Taroda-ku showed himself and attacked Isamuda-ku, swearing he would get rid of him for good. Isamuda-ku, who was completely human, had no possible way to defend himself so Katsu took over the fight. She could not match the power or skill of her uncle and was quickly defeated. Taroda-ku threw Isamuda-ku, Akio, and Katsu aside and headed for the 3 year old girls in the yard. Fuyu tried to stop him but she too was thrown aside. But just as Taroda-ku was about to strike down Kurorin thousands of hollows swarmed out of the sky and ground. They surrounded Taroda-ku and ate him. They left as quickly as they came and Kurorin went on playing as if nothing had happened. They were all confused at what had happened but they did not waste time on such thoughts, knowing any followers of Taroda-ku may peruse them. So they all fled. Isamuda-ku, Akio, Fuyu, Katsu, and the children. They soon settled in a grove just outside of a starting village which is now known as Karakura Town.
Katsu’s boys too gave up their powers while she herself refused. Saying she was going to return to her home someday but the boys needed a steady life. Isamuda-ku shortened his name to Isamu and Akio started going by his last name, Ookami, and started a dojo while still staying by Isamu’s side. Fuyu soon had a little boy of her own and named him Ryu. After another year Fuyu convinced Katsu to change the names of her sons to Ginshiro and Gintaro and changed the girl’s names to Kurono and Suki.”
I stayed silent and let it all soak in. I was originally born in the Soul Society and had an uncle and older sister and a family. My mother had plotted against my father and kicked us out. My sister got kicked out. Ginshiro and Gintaro are my nephews.
“Oh wow”
