Title from You Me At 6
Chapter 20- The Truth Is A Terrible Thin]
"Oh my God, that was PAINFUL!" I moan, walking out of my English class with Mikey, Ray and Becky in tow.
"I know! How is it possible to spend an entire 40 minutes analysing one bloody poem?! I just don't understand it!" Becky shouts.
"Well, apparently a poet does not mean what he says. 'The sky was black as night'. That seems pretty self explanatory. But oh no, what it REALLY means is that the sky reflected his shattered soul, torn apart by having to kill his own unicorn to save the love of his life. But oh, a shock twist! The love of his life turns out to be his sister!" Mikey rants. We all just stop and look at him.
"Really?" Ray asks. "Again with the unicorns?" Mikey scowls, folding his arms across his chest.
"I like them, okay?" He sniffs, blowing a strand of hair out of his eye.
"Yeah, whatever. Let's just get out of here, I want to see how Gee is. He hasn't replied to any of my texts." I frown slightly, worry creasing my forehead.
"He'll be fine, he's probably sleeping... On second thoughts, you know how he is." Mikey replies, shrugging a little.
Ray and Becky spot Bob up ahead and they run over to him. I just hang back with Mikey.
"That hasn't gotten any better?"
"A little better, but not much. I swear, if he didn't have coffee he wouldn't be able to function at all." He chuckles, trying to gain a little humour in the difficult situation.
"Bless him." I say, just as we reach the others. Bob's face is not one of a happy person.
"What's up with you, face-ache?" Becky laughs, ruffling his hair slightly.
"Mr fucking James. I'm beginning to see what you mean Frank, he's a complete fucknuts." I raise my arms and shout.
"YES! Finally someone feels my pain!" They all just roll their eyes at me and walk out of the gates, crossing the street. I sigh before dragging myself along with them.
I hold back from the group as they walk, my mind occupied on Gerard. Is he okay? Why hasn't he answered my texts? Out of the corner of my eye I can see three tall figures standing across the street. I turn my head in the direction of the figures, only to be met by the sight of Ronnie and two of his friends.. He smiles at me. I stop walking and blink a couple of times in shock before glaring back at him. His expression turns to one of... Shame? I should think so too.
I turn my back to the three boys, jogging a little bit to catch up with my friends. That was odd... Why did he smile at me? I don't think it was threatening, it looked genuine. Maybe he does feel sorry for what he did after all.
He's still an ass though....
I try and join in with the conversations, confused as to what they're talking about. I join Mikey and Becky because Ray and Bob have turned down a different road.
"Yeah, you're straight. Of course you are, Mr. I-love-unicorns-and-gayness." Becky laughs sarcastically. "And besides, you don't have to be gay to think Ben Bruce is hot. He is a fine specimen of a man, you gotta admit it."
"But I honestly don't see it. Yeah, he's not ugly but still... No matter what you say, I know that I don't want him to take me up the ass." I laugh loudly at Mikey's statement and they both turn to look at me.
"Frank- you agree with me, right? Ben Bruce is just... Oh my god, NOM!"
"Damn straight he is! The guy is gorgeous!" I say truthfully.
"See? I told ya!" Becky pokes her tongue out, flipping Mikey off.
"Frank's gay so it's normal for him to think that. And you're going out with my brother, dude! Not cool."
"What, just because I have a gorgeous boyfriend, I can't think other guys are hot? They'll need their confidence boosting after seeing my Gee-gee."
"Aww!!! Okay, you're off the hook for that one." He smirks at me.
"And you are in denial about your sexuality." Becky adds under her breath, apparently not quiet enough though as Mikey hears.
"I'm not gay! I'm just... flamboyant!"
We all start laughing at the stupidity of his comment and I'm about to reply when I hear my phone ring. I pull it out of my pocket and check the caller I.D.
I smile, accepting the call. The two morons I'm with are still laughing, so I attempt to quiet them down.
"Shh guys, it's Gerard." I say raising the phone to my ear.
"Hello?" I say brightly. The response is not what I expect at all.
"Frank! Is that you?" The mystery person practically shouts down the phone at me.
"Yes... Who is this?"
"It's Ronnie, listen you-" I cut him off.
"Why do you have Gee's phone?" Mikey turns to look at me, his face shocked. We've stopped walking now.
"It's a long story, but you need to get here. Fast."
"What's wrong? Is he hurt?" My breathing is getting faster, my heart beating so fast it's making me feel nauseous.
"Yes. Shit, it's so bad." I can hear him choking up slightly. It must be bad for him to react like this.
"... How bad?" I gulp, my throat bone dry.
"Shit, I don't fucking know!" He says, exasperated. "It's fucking bad, and you need to get here."
"Okay, I'll be there as soon as possible.... Wait- where are you?" I'm bouncing on the spot, ready to run when he tells me.
"Uh... Do you know the alley way that connects Ramsey Way and London Avenue?" Shit, do I?
"Yeah, I think I know." Tears are falling down my cheeks as I begin to realise the severity of the situation.
"Just get here as soon as. I'll stay with him, but I need to call an ambulance." His voice is shaking, and I can tell he's on the verge of tears.
"O-Okay, I'm on my way."
I turn back, remembering where Ronnie was last time I saw him. I gesture for Mikey and Becky to follow.
"Frank! What the fuck is going on?!" Mikey looks scared as his eyes search my face.
"It's Gerard. He's hurt. Bad. We need to go now!" I set off running.
I suddenly remember a shortcut that I've been down before. I take a sharp right as I turn down the street that Bob and Ray walked down. I'm vaguely aware of people running behind me, but I just push myself faster. I spot Ray and Bob up ahead but I don't have time to stop so I just run past them, hearing their confused calls follow me down the street.
When I get halfway down the street I stop, looking around for the alleyway. I can hear my friends running from way back down the street, but I don't care. I need to get to Gerard. I spot an opening in one of the fences and I run in that direction, recieving an angry shout from a driver who I just cut off. Fuck them.
The alleyway is dark but I can see the silhouette of one guy crouched on the floor above a small heap. Please... God, please let him be okay.
"Gerard?" I shout, panicked before running into the darkness of the alley. As I get closer I can see Ronnie, who is muttering comforting words to Gerard.
"Gerard!" My legs collapse when I see the state he's in. My poor, sweet Gee. His face is covered in blood and he's curled up in a fetal position, sobbing loudly.
I reach out a hand to touch his hair, but he flinches back, cowering even further away. "Gee, it's okay. It's okay, it's me Frankie. No one's going to hurt you, you're safe now." Tears are burning a hot trail down my cheeks as I look on, feeling useless.
Just then the rest of the guys turn up, all of them out of breath and panting heavily. I can hear Mikey release a strangled sob, before he's picking Ronnie up off the ground and shouting in his face.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!" He slams him against the wall, getting in his face. "What did you do to my brother, you fuck?!"
"I didn't do anything! I was on my way home from school and I found him here, honestly!" Ronnie defends himself, hands raised.
"Mikey, he was the one who called me." I say quietly, taking my eyes off of Gerard and looking up at the two boys. "And this is so not the time for this."
He just turns away from Ronnie and screams in anger. "FUCK!" He kicks the fence on the opposite side of the alley, making a big hole in the wood.
"Ronnie, where's the ambulance?! They should be here by now!"
"I-I don't know!!!" He bursts, upset. "I called them like five minutes ago."
And sure enough, I can hear the faint sounds of sirens in the distance. I stroke Gerard's hair, him allowing me this time. "Gerard, they're on their way. Everything's going to be fine, okay?" I cry, my heart breaking for him.
Gerard just repeats the same thing over and over between each sob. "Don't let him touch me. Don't let him hurt me. Please!"
Ray chooses this moment to speak up, causing everyone to turn to him. "Guys, what's wrong with his arms?" That's when I notice that Gerard's jacket is indeed on the ground, his scars slightly visible under the layer of blood. Mikey just looks at him irritably.
"What the fuck are you talking about?!" He hisses at him. "There's nothing wrong wi-" His sentence comes to an abrupt halt when he looks to where Ray is pointing. He gasps slightly, choking on air.
"Gee." He mutters, before stumbling over to where Gerard's shaking body lays, falling to the ground beside him. He touches Gerard's cheek gently and moves his head so he's looking at him. "Gerard, I'm here for you, okay? I'm so fucking sorry, I love you so much, Gee." Mikey kisses the top of his head, some of his tears falling into Gerard's hair.
The ambulances are very close now, I can hear them pulling down the street. Within two minutes, the paramedics are running down the alley, ordering everyone out of their way.
"Okay, buddy what's your name?" The man asks Gerard, opening his eyes and shining a torch at his pupils.
"His name's Gerard." I say, seeing as Gerard isn't able to speak for himself at the moment.
"Okay guys, what's wrong with him?" One of the female medic asks, examining Gerard as they get to work.
"We don't know, he hasn't said anything about it. We just found him here like this." Mikey replies, crying softly.
"Is he going to be okay?" I ask, my throat raw from crying.
"Well, he's got a severe head wound and he's lost a lot of blood. But if we get him to the hospital fast, he should be fine." She adds upon seeing my scared expression.
The male paramedic lays out a stretcher on the ground and they both go to move Gerard onto it.
"Okay sweetie, this may hurt, but we're going to help you." The female says as they lift Gerard up and onto the stretcher, causing him to release an extremely loud cry of agony. The sound tears through my mind, breaking my heart even more.
The male medic speaks up this time. "I know Gerard, we're sorry but it's the only way we can help." They start to carry him off to the ambulance, Mikey and I following closely behind. The medics stop us as we both try and get into the ambulance with them.
"Sorry guys, only one." Mikey and I both look at each other. I frown.
"You go, Mikes. You're his brother, you should be there."
"No, you go. I think he'd rather see his boyfriend than me. Plus he'll probably be asking for you. He needs you right now." He says, pushing me towards the ambulance.
"What about you?" I ask.
"I'll take him. My car's just down there." Ronnie says, pointing to a house close by. Mikey just pushes me again and I jump up into the van.
"Thank you so much, Ronnie." I say sincerely. He just smiles back at me, before the door closes.
I stand there for a brief moment before rushing over to sit beside Gerard, who is writhing around on the bed.
"Gerard, honey you need to stay still." The woman says to him, putting one of those oxygen masks on him. I grab his hand, which is covered in blood and begin stroking it.
"Gerard, do what she says. I know it hurts, but it'll get better if you do what she says." His body stops thrashing around on the table and he is silent apart from the heart wrenching sobs erupting from his chest.
"Are you his boyfriend?" I nod in reply, glancing briefly at the woman. She is quite short and slim. Not as short as me but fairly short. Her hair falls in blonde ringlets down to her shoulders, surrounding her small heart shaped face. All in all, I'd say she's quite pretty, a nice looking girl.
"So do you have any idea how this happened, Mr...?"
"Iero. Call me Frank though. What's your name?" I reply shakily.
"Callie-Rose. But you can call me Callie." I smile at her before turning my attention back to Gerard.
"Well, Callie in answer to your question no. I haven't got a clue how this happened, but believe me. When I find out who's responsible for this, I will tear them to fucking pieces." I say in a low, menacing voice.
Callie seems a bit taken aback, but says nothing. The rest of the journey is silent, save for Gerard crying and me telling him how much I love him.
I meant what I said about that bastard. When I find him, I'm going to kill him.
How was that? I know, I know it wasn't very eventful and it was a bit of a filler, but it's the best I could do on such short time. I hope you enjoyed it, regardless. R&R for... Oli Frickin' Sykes!
