Chapter 6
0 ReviewsLet the Howell Games begin...
I stood in a large room on a small metal plate. Alone. I had been told to wait here until further notice. Soon I would be entering the arena. I had no idea what would be waiting for me in there. How I could possibly die, or worse who might be the one to kill me. Lara would probably be the worst, if she got her hands on a sword. After seeing what she did to those mannequinns I'd prefer not to be killed that way.
I got a fright as a glass wall came down from the ceiling, incasing me in a narrow tube. The metal plate I stood on slowly began to lift me up through the tube. As it came to a halt I jolted forward slightly, thankfully the glass tube prevented me from falling over. I regained my balance as the glass wall began to sink back and I became aware of my surroundings. I was now in the arena. The Howell Games were minutes away from starting. I looked around to find all the other tributes also on the platforms. All of us standing together made a large circle.
The arena appeared to be a forest. All the platforms were in a large clearing, but around me and the other tributes I could see tall and thick trees. This obviously was the centre of the arena. In the clearing of the arena the ground had various different items scattered around. These were obviously the essentials needed for surviving the Games. Suddenly Dan's voice could be heard thoughout the whole arena.
"Alright ladies, its time for the 60 second countdown. Once you hear me say 'go' the countdown is over and the Games will begin."
I slowly counted the seconds in my head and scanned the supplies around me. I turned to see Sara, the girl with layers of fake tan still covering her skin, had decided to step off her platform. As soon as her boot landed on the grass, that part of ground exploded in a large flame and her screams filled the air. I knew she hadn't been listening in the training room. Guess that's karma for you.
I focused on the items on the ground again, noticed a dark green backpack that was close enough for me to grab before anyone else. Slightly further from the bag was what I had prayed would be in the arena. A shining, metal, bow with about a dozen arrows in a sheath. If I could get my hands on those before anyone else, then I would have a bigger chance of winning the Gam-
"GO!"
Having completely lost track of the countdown, I ran off my platform and made my way over to the rucksack. I glanced around to see Lara had found a sword and was already using it on Amina and Miyu. I managed to throw the bag over my shoulder as they both fell to the ground in a pool of blood. On my way to the bow and arrow, I narrowly avoided a cannon that fired cake at Jasmine of District 2 and Krsyti of District 6. Jasmine's cake covered body landed in front of the bow and I had to take a massive leap to stop from tripping over her.
Having made it to the bow and arrows, I picked them up and started to run back towards the forest. Before slipping into the trees I glanced back at the chaos before me. Bodies lay strewn across the clearing. Deep stabs from Lara's sword, buried under piles of cake and others who I had no idea how they had died. I then jumped through the trees and began searching for somewhere that I would be able to stay, so I could survive the Howell Games.
