At first everything felt so strange and unreal, I thought I really was dead. My head spinning, and my vision was blurred. My eyes were just beginning to clear and I squinted as there was a light being shone directly on my face. I tried to move, but a stinging pain shot from my right hand, up my arm. I noticed that someone had wrapped some sort of bandage around my injured hand. When my eyes had adjusted I found that I was lying in a cave, my head resting on a backpack that I thought was mine until I saw it was right next to me. The light that came from the mouth of the cave suddenly became dark as someone crawled through. The figure spoke and I immediately knew who it was.

"Feeling better?" Mary whispered. I was still feeling dizzy and all I could remember was the beedrills buzzing around Lindsey and Elena's corpses.

"What happened?" I coughed out, finding that my mouth was dry from the lack of water. Mary sat down next to me and lifted my right hand, examining it.

"I saw you getting chased by those beedrills, one of them stung your hand when you fell. I knew that you wouldn't be dead from just one sting, and I didn't want to leave you there for Lara or some other tribute to finish you off".

"How long have I been passed out?"

"3 days" she replied.

"3 days?" I stared at her wide eyed. I sat up and frowned at her. "Why didn't you just kill me? Mary just smiled and her answer surprised me.

"Because I want you to win"

"What? Why?" I asked

She paused for a moment. "You know how you said you recognised me from somewhere?" I nodded and she continued speaking. "Well you've probably seen me with PJ, since I'm his girlfriend"

Of course. I had seen Mary sat with PJ on his live videos numerous times. I didn't understand what that had to do with me and letting me win. Then I realised, that for Mary she either dies, or has to marry Dan. Either way, she can no longer be with PJ.

"I'm so sorry" not knowing what else to say. She just shook her head, picked up her backpack and made her way back out the cave. Grabbing my own bag, I hurried after her.

"So where exactly do we go from here? I mean you can't help me win up to the end, because that would mean I would have to kill you. And I definitely don't want to do that" I stammered. Mary said nothing. The whole arena seemed eerily silent. Then a voice started to sing. Quiet at first, and then slowly becoming louder. The singing was then drowned out by the sound of a piercing scream. A scream I had heard before. The last time I heard it, was when my best friend phoned me about Dan's announcement of the Howell Games. It was Kathryn.
