"I've won" I whispered. "I've won" I repeated a lot louder this time. I started to laugh and grin like an idiot.
I couldn't believe I had managed to stay alive. Out of all 24 girls I was able to stay alive throughout the whole Games. This feeling of pride and need to fangirl swept over me and I finally allowed my hands to flail about. The only sound in the arena was my occasional squeals of joy. Then the arena erupted with noise. As an aircraft began to fly into view, making huge winds that blew my hair back as it landed.
A huge doorway in the aircraft opened and I could see Elen standing there, waiting eagerly to get off. When the ship had completely stopped, Elen started to run towards me. She grabbed hold of me and pulled me into a hug.
"I knew you could do it!" She squealed into my ear. "I just knew it!"
I hadn't noticed that Phil had also gotten off the ship and had put his hand on Elen's shoulder.
"Come on Elen, she's only just won. Give her some breathing space" he laughed.
We all headed back to the aircraft and I walked up a small flight of stairs and through a long corridor similiar to the one in the hotel. Phil opened a door and I found myself in a large dining room. Phil and Elen told me to take a seat and then they both left me. I was surprised that an aircraft would have rooms as fancy as this. I sat at the table, awkwardly waiting for what was going to happen next. I was so nervous about what was happening that I couldn't sit still and started to pace the floor. The door opened after another 5 minutes of waiting. Dan walked up to me, and took one of my hands in his, kissing it gently. My heart almost stopped beating and I could scarcely believe that it was real. Dan then whispered to me.
"I don't think I've ever been happier." He gave me an adorable one sided smile.
He slid down to the floor on one knee, and pulled a small red velvet box from his jeans pocket.
"Devon Hall, I promise to make sure you will never have to experience anything as bad as the Games again. I promise to stand by your side and love you forever. Devon, will you marry me?"
I suddenly found myself almost incapable of breathing as he flipped open the lid of the box. A ring, more beautiful than any other I had ever seen. A single diamond glistened on the centre of a gold band. My eyes left the ring to look at Dan. His brown eyes, looked up at me and I found my voice.
"Yes, yes of course I will." Dan stood up and pulled me close to him, his arms wrapping around my waist, having to bend down since he was so much taller than me. He hugged me so tightly that my feet left the ground.
Once we were apart, he took the ring out of the box and took my left hand. He slipped the ring onto my finger. My eyes met Dan's and his hands cupped my face, pulling our lips into a kiss. This time I didn't have to worry about being killed. This time I wasn't wondering if another girl was going to become his wife. Dan was mine, and I was his. I was going to be Mrs Howell soon. Our kiss ended and tears began to roll down my face, and Dan smiled at me.
"I love you Devon." He said.
"I love you too Dan." More tears fell but I was smiling.
He kissed my forehead and then held my hand in his. "Come on, we've got a wedding to plan".
