“What are you doing up?” The gruff voice, belonging to Hayley’s father barked out. Brendon tensed at how angry the man sounded- and he didn’t even know about his presence yet! He was just… angry. Brendon didn’t get it, but he’d been sheltered by his parents. He didn’t understand how bad things could be for some kids, when their parents didn’t give a damn about them- and even sometimes preferred to hurt them.

“I have a paper due tomorrow. I was just proofreading it.” Hayley answered, as calmly as she could. She wasn’t so worried about what her father would do to her, as she was worried about what Brendon might try to do with her father if he found out about the abuse. She wanted to protect him from those worries. He didn’t deserve to be stained by her rotten family.

“Why didn’t you work on it earlier?” The man demanded, “Where the hell have you been?” Hayley felt a drop in her stomach as he referred to her absence. She was hoping it had gone unnoticed, and it probably would’ve had he not come home drunk. She could smell the alcohol, and that was never good. It wasn’t the alcohol that made him an abusive prick though- no that was just the kind of man that he was. He never wanted a kid, and Hayley knew she had always just been a burden.

“I’ve been at Amy’s.” Hayley lied so easily because she had no other choice really. She knew the consequences of the truth better than anyone else. “Aren’t you tired dad?” She slowly moved in front of the closet door, leaning against it. She was trapping Brendon because she knew exactly what was going to happen, and she couldn’t have Brendon fight back for her.

“Are you trying to send me to bed, you little brat?” He demanded, breathing heavily as he moved forward.

Hayley didn’t even flinch at the slap that landed upon her right cheek. It wasn’t all that bad considering the treatment she’d endured in the past. She just prayed that Brendon wouldn’t make a sound. She didn’t need things to be worse. She just needed to make it through graduation, and then she’d be gone- no matter what it took.

“No dad, I’m sorry.” Hayley answered quietly. “I’m just tired. I’ve been working hard on my paper but it’s really late and I have school tomorrow.”

“You need to pay better attention to the time.” He slurred, “Get your ass in bed.” Hayley felt lucky as the door closed behind her father. She was safe, for the time being- but now she had to face Brendon.

When she opened the closet door Brendon didn’t move, he didn’t speak- she almost wanted to check that he was still breathing. He just stood, completely still, mouth slightly open, eyes widened- anger obvious.

“It’s late.” Hayley whispered, leaning up to kiss him on the lips. He barely reacted, but once she pulled away he pulled her back- finally giving her a reaction. The kiss was long and passionate, and again she was breathing raggedly when he pulled away, but this time instead of fear she was breathing heavily from the lust.

Brendon ran his fingers through his hair and moved quietly to her bed, sitting down. Hayley sat beside him, knowing that he was upset. All she could do was wait. “Did your-“ Brendon shook his head, but thankfully he was whispering the words. “Hayley, tell me I’m wrong. Tell me that your dad did not just slap you.” His soft fingers stroked her cheek.

Hayley forced herself not to pull away. She wasn’t used to gentle touches after harsh slaps. It brought about mixed emotions, and pulled her from the safety of shutting everything out. With Brendon here the abuse became a little more real- and it was something she had to face now. “He just gets mad sometimes.”

“Fuck.” Brendon breathed out, letting his hand fall in to his lap.

“I need to get some sleep.” Hayley awkwardly stated, not wanting to talk about the situation with Brendon. She’d never had someone protect her from her family, and she thought it would be more trouble than it was worth.

“You don’t seem surprised.” Brendon spoke softly. “This isn’t the first time.”

Hayley knew it wasn’t a question but she still found it necessary to answer, “No, but it’s never very bad.”

“Why didn’t you ever tell me?” Brendon asked, and Hayley could sense the betrayal in his voice. Guilt overwhelmed her but she focused hard on not crying. Now wouldn’t be the time. “All those times… I thought we talked about everything, but we didn’t. You kept a huge secret from me, one that could have hurt you- could still hurt you.”

“I knew how you’d react.” Hayley responded, “And it’s not that bad Brendon. You’re overreacting, just as I knew you would.”

“So I should just shrug it off?” Brendon asked, his tone suggesting that Hayley was insane.

“I wish you would.”

“That’s never going to happen.” Brendon replied. “You- you have to go. You have to leave. He can’t just hit you.”

“See I knew that’s what you’d say.” Hayley was just a little upset, and very tired. “There isn’t much time left to school and I’m barely here, with work and hanging out with Amy- and school. It’s not worth the trouble Brendon. Just please, let this go.”

Brendon shook his head but said nothing. He was upset too.

“Please just go back to your hotel. I’ll call you tomorrow after school and we can talk.” Hayley was pleading for Brendon not to make a big deal out of the situation. “This is my life to deal with. Please don’t interfere, please. I need to be able to deal with this so that I can leave without drama.”

Brendon breathed in sharply, “I want you to move in with me.”

“What?”

“It’s what I was going to ask earlier.” Brendon admitted. “You know, for college. I figured you’ll be busy with school and I’ll be busy with work… living together is really the only way we will be able to see each other. It seems like a good idea to me.”

Hayley was surprised, but she could see the convenience in it. Otherwise they really probably wouldn’t see each other very often. “Can I think about it?” It was also a big move though. If Hayley chose to move in with Brendon then if things went badly with them she’d be homeless, seeing as how she’d be giving up her spot at the college- and she couldn’t afford an off campus apartment on her own. She was planning on focusing on college for her first year so that she could get transitioned before working. She had the money saved up, and enough financial aid to make it work.

“Take your time.” Brendon answered, “You need to get sleep. Please call me tomorrow?”

“I will.” Hayley promised, grinning as Brendon quietly opened her bedroom window. “You’re climbing out?”

“I’m an escape artist.” Brendon answered, “I used to do this a lot in high school.”

She laughed quietly as she watched him quietly move out of her window and to the siding on the house. He was good at it, as he said and once his feet hit the ground he blew her a kiss and disappeared.

Hayley kept falling asleep in first period. Thankfully Amy was there to slap her awake. She’d successfully caught up on all of her homework, and typed up both of her essays… but she was exhausted.

Amy laughed as she shook Hayley awake again. “I think I’m going to need details if you’re this tired.”

Hayley rolled her eyes, “The essays killed me.”

“You’re so fucking boring.” Amy sighed heavily, “Here I thought I was going to get some sexual details. I’m dying to know how Brendon is in bed, and yet you won’t tell me!”

Heyly smiled shyly, “Oh Amy, he’s wonderful.”

Amy perked up, “So it has happened?”

Hayley jumped sleepily as her phone vibrated. It was enough to startle her sleep deprived brain. “It’s Brendon.” She muttered.

Amy nodded and gazed over to read the text.

I miss you.

“Aww.” Amy gushed, “That’s so sweet!”

“It’s just three words.” Hayley replied, though the butterflies were flying around in her belly, causing quite the disruption.

“Soon enough it’ll be enough three words.” Amy winked.

Hayley nervously glanced at the text message, before responding with a simple smiley face. Amy was right. She was boring; she felt boring.

But Brendon did care about her, and that brought out a spark in her that she didn’t want to live without anymore- and once school ended she wouldn’t have to.

She was going to move in with Brendon.

The end of school seemed to come quickly and Hayley immediately dialed Brendon’s number. He picked up on the second ring. “Hey beautiful.” His cheesiness was adorable.

“I want to do it.” Hayley breathed out.

“Yeah?” Brendon sounded surprised, and excited.

“Yeah.” Hayley replied. “I can’t wait.”

“I can’t either.” Brendon chuckled, “You’ll constantly be naked, and I’ll always be getting laid.”

Hayley rolled her eyes, “Just because I’ll be living with you does not mean that I will be your personal sex slave. I’ll have other things to do as well.”

“Hopefully not other boys.” Brendon commented.

“Jealousy streak I should know about?” Hayley asked.

She could practically hear him rolling his eyes. “You know I don’t share. You’re off limits. I don’t care if the world relied on it. I still wouldn’t share you.”

“Selfish, but good.” Hayley answered, “Though I do hope you’re aware that would be my choice.”

“Well yeah, except if I say no.” Brendon responded.

Hayley just rolled her eyes.

“You sound tired.” Brendon commented.

“I am tired.” Hayley yawned, “Wait, are you home now?”

“No, Ryan got stuck doing- er, something naughty with a fan.” Brendon started laughing. “He’s spending the day with her so we postponed our flight for tomorrow morning, which you would know if you looked to the left.”

In utter confusion Hayley glanced up to the left- and there Brendon was.

Her heart melted, because his smile was perfection- and her heart had been stolen.

(Six Months Later)

Hayley nervously stared in to the mirror, the words ‘I do’ floating through her mind. She didn’t feel ready, but she was more than ready- and this was so fast, and she had been so opposed not so long ago. What if it was just a mistake?

Amy sighed and leaned in to the hallway, yelling out, “Ryan! I need you in here. She’s doing that whole second thoughts thing again!”

Ryan rushed in, gazing at Hayley. It was the first time he’d seen her in his dress. “Go check on Brendon Amy.” Amy nodded and hurried off without another word, though she did give Hayley a concerned glance.

“Fuck, Hales. You look beautiful.” Ryan commented, as he looked in to the mirror from behind her. “You’re flawless. Brendon is going to be speechless.”

“I kind of want to run away Ryan.” Hayley admitted, as her cheeks heated. “This was Brendon’s idea. He wanted this. I don’t know if I want this- I want him, but this? This is marriage! I- I’m so afraid I’ll fuck things up because I don’t think I’m ready. We’re both so young and-“

“In love.” Ryan finished. “You’re both in love, so fuck how young you guys are. Everyone out there is happy for you, and yeah sure most of them think you’re both off your rockers but so what? The insanity fits you both, and so will the marriage.”

“But what if Brendon is wrong, and he doesn’t actually love me? What if this is just temporary insanity?” Hayley stared in to the mirror, at her perfect form fitting dress- and her hair that fell in to soft curls down her neck. It was pinned up for the most part- elegantly put together by someone that wasn’t her. She never could have come up with this kind of perfection all on her own. Brendon hired tons of people for the event and her mind had whirled with new names, and faces- and appointments, and cake tasting events.

Now here she stood.

This was what all the work produced.

A frightened bride to be, who was madly in love with the groom to be.

“He’s in love with you.” Ryan assured her. “That’s why he wants this. He knows he doesn’t need to wait, because as whirlwind as it is… it’s real, and he wants to make it legal.”

“I never had a chance, you know.” Hayley softly commented.

“Pardon?” Ryan didn’t know what she meant.

“I never had a chance, from the first word Brendon typed to the first time I heard his voice… to when we met. I never had a chance of not falling in love.”

Ryan smiled fondly, “I don’t think he ever had a chance either, and I think together is where you two belong- with each other.”

“I know but this marriage… and I’m younger, and we haven’t been together for long and I- I already know he’s getting crap for it.” Hayley frowned. “No one approves.”

“Brendon doesn’t give a damn.” Ryan answered, “As he so bluntly keeps telling everyone.”

Hayley chuckled, “I’m scared.”

“You’d be crazy not to be.”

“I’m crazy either way, aren’t I?”

Ryan nodded, “I suppose you’re right. So are you ready to take the walk down the aisle?” Hayley gazed at him as he continued, “Are you ready to say your vows to Brendon, and make this entire thing legal? He’s ready. I think he’s been ready from the beginning. He’s been nothing but excited since you said yes, and he was sure that you’d say no.”

Hayley grinned. “It’s because I told him no hypothetically a long time ago- which for us really means a short time ago, I suppose. He’s a very determined man though.”

“Just when it comes to marrying you.” Hayley and Ryan both jumped at the voice.

“Brendon!” Ryan scolded, “You can’t see the bride before the wedding.”

“I’m not looking.” Brendon laughed, “Just eavesdropping.”

“I’m sorry.” Hayley blushed again, “You must think I’m terrible for being so frightened.”

“You obviously don’t see my shaking hands.” Brendon commented. “I’m scared too Hales. Fuck I’m terrified.”

“Really?” Hayley relaxed at the words and Ryan quietly dismissed himself from the area to give the couple some privacy.

“Really.” Brendon answered. “But I know that as soon as I see you walk down that aisle all of my fears will disappear, because I want to be married to you and that’s all that matters. All of our future fears don’t matter Hayley, they don’t mean anything. Sure anything could happen. The world could end next month. Should we really let that stop us from having our day of happiness?”

“No.” Hayley whispered, “You’re my everything Brendon. I just don’t want to lose that.”

“You won’t.” Brendon promised.

Ryan appeared, “Its show-time guys. They need you out there Brendon.”

“I’ll see you out there baby.” Brendon called, before his footsteps faded away.

Hayley glanced at Ryan, mirroring his smile. She was ready.

Ryan extended his hand to Hayley and she gratefully took it so that he could walk her down the aisle when the music started.

Hayley blushed the entire way down the aisle but she kept her eyes trained to Brendon and he was staring shamelessly at her. The warmth Ryan offered kept her confident as they headed down the aisle together. Once they broke away she had Brendon there to make her feel comfortable, despite the crowd of people she barely knew. Mostly they were all people Brendon knew, and though he’d introduced her she still couldn’t keep names and faces straight, and probably wouldn’t ever be able to.

Brendon’s vows were first and he cleared his throat nervously, gaining everyone’s attention. Hayley stared, completely tuning out the crowd. He was all that mattered to her.

“Hayley /Urie/, I promise to always be your friend above all else- and no matter what the world throws our way you will always have me. I don’t think we will ever reach our romantic end but if we ever do I will still always be here for you, and share a strong connection with you. No amount of fighting can change that, or what we have.” Hayley melted at his words, since that was her biggest fear. She was afraid a fight would change everything and then she wouldn’t have a husband, a boyfriend, or a best friend- which was all the things he’d been to her so much as of now. She also couldn’t help but grin at the premature use of his last name. He refused to use her last name, since he still hated her parents.

Hayley coughed nervously as it became her turn. It took her a few nerve wracking seconds to remember what she was going to say, and when she did she couldn’t help but blush at how stupid it sounded. “Brendon Urie, I love you and will always cherish you. You’re kind of crazy, and I think you’ve made me a bit crazy as well but I’m a better person for it.”

Brendon laughed, making Hayley smile her fears away.

“I do.” Brendon spoke loudly, and Hayley forgot everything else. Those two words were really all that mattered.

“I do.” Hayley whispered, as a lump formed in her throat. She was seconds away from crying, and then –

“You may now kiss the bride.”

Brendon leaned forward, letting his lips rest against hers. It was perfect, and sweet- flawless in a way that neither of them ever could have planned.

It might have been too early for everyone else but for them it was perfect, and prolonging the inevitable would have simply been foolish.

They were happy, and that really was all there was to it.

(Three Years Later)

Brendon Urie stared down at the letter. The fancy writing and the beautiful words- they all belonged to him, from someone incredibly special to him.

The crowd was loud behind the curtains and Spencer tapped him, “Show time.”

Brendon got up with a grin, neatly folding the letter. He placed it back in his jeans pocket, where kept it all throughout tour- despite the fact that the sender sent plenty.

His mind focused on the ending of the letter-

Happy Birthday- I’m pregnant! Love, Hayley Urie.

P.S. I miss you, and I’m craving chocolate.

They hadn’t tried for the baby and that made it so much more special. Brendon hadn’t had to poke holes in his condoms. He was happily married, with a kid on the way- and a beautiful, sweet wife waiting at home for him.

As far as he was concerned, he had everything.
