1978

Mommy and Daddy were at it again. All they ever do is yell and throw things at each other. Usually, the fights happened when daddy would stumble in smelling of a bitter, foul odor. Something mommy said to never ever go near.

Alcohol.

Because they always fought, mommy never wanted our friends over for some reason. Today was different though.

Instead of just sending me, Stacy, and our little brother Edan to our room, mommy actually let us watch the yelling proceed.

"Don, why do you always come home so drunk? You honestly need some help." Mommy said as quietly as she could.

As angry as she was she didn't want us getting worried. "Look bitch, when I’m ready to get help I will, ok? I don't need anybody else telling what to do right now. And besides, it's not like I’m hurting the kids in anyway."

Daddy responded before going over to Edan who was in his mother’s lap playing with his feet. As soon as he picked Edan up, he began screaming as our fathers horrible smell reached him. Just like mommy, I was starting to get worried about daddy.

What if mommy's right, what if daddy does need help. I thought to myself, before daddy put Edan down and came over to me.

"I'm not hurting you, right princess?" I shook my head no, to afraid to actually express my true opinion. I've seen what he's done to my mom and I don't think I think I want to get on his bad side. "No sir, you are the nicest daddy in the whole world."

Daddy smiled before turning back to mommy and giving her a deathly glare. I could tell from this point it wasn't going to be a quick and easy fight.

It was about to get dangerous.

"What, are you trying to brainwash my children and myself by saying I’m hurting them or something?"

"Don, I didn't say that. I just said you need some help that's all. Not only would it be a huge stress reliever, but you would feel a lot better about yourself."

From where I was sitting I could see daddy's eyes blaze up as mommy's words left her mouth. "You bitch, I told you to stop telling me what to do, ok? God Venetia, if you really hate me so much then just divorce me already."

"Well, maybe I will." Mommy stood up and started rushing to her and daddy's room with daddy following close behind. Stacy told me it’s better to just leave them to their argument and things just might clear up quicker than usual.

At first, all I really did was just play with Edan until I heard a scream from our parents’ room.

Stacy and I of us rushed over to see our mother holding her cheek with one hand and a phone in the other. Mommy was screaming into the, pleading for help while we just watched until our dad came over and screamed,

“You see what just happened to your mother? Well that’s what happens when you disobey your husband, so don’t ever be stupid bitch like your mother is, ok?”

Stacy nods her head while I can’t seem to keep my eyes away from mommy. Was it the effect of smelling daddy’s breath for to long or was there actually blood coming from her cheek?

Obviously, daddy got impatient waiting for my response because suddenly all I could feel was that I was no longer on the ground and daddy was shaking me back and forth, like I was some doll or something.

“Well, answer me. Do you understand?!!!”

I began crying as I felt my brain being rattled to much. “Yes, yes I’m sorry. I do understand.”

Daddy threw me to the ground with a sneer on his face before spitting out, “That’s what I thought.”

The next thing I knew was mother was right at my side screaming and pushing daddy away, calling him tons of names I only heard my father say before to her.

Then, everything went black…
