  Keep something next to your bed that you could use as a weapon (nothing sharp or pointy you don't want to accidentally hurt yourself. like a bat or something?...) Maybe that'll help you feel less scared knowing you could hit someone with it? I'm sure you'll be fine as long as everything is locked. :)

  That's freaky.
  I used to live in the projects, so there would be a murder every week and the block would reek of drugs and alcohol. There would also be people passed out in the street.
  Don't worry. Keep a baseball bat right next to you. Make your presence known in the house.
