Breakdown:

Out of boredom, I spoke with one of my old friends that I haven't seen since Noriko came into my life. He works in an auto shop like I do. I found him working on the engine of a 2004 Kia. I knocked on the garage door.

"Hey!" I shouted. "Kojo!" As expected the machinery blocked out any other noises around him. I walked up to the guy and tapped him on the shoulder. He looked up and lifted his mask.

"Kenji?" he asked. "What are you doing? I thought you don't get in until this afternoon today." I shrugged at him.

"Decided to come in early," I lied. He made a face at me.

"Kenji," he said. "Since when do you come in early willingly?" I frowned at him. I didn't know this guy still kept track.

"I can't get past you, can I?" I asked. He shook his head at me.

"You might as well stay," he said. "I mean, you came all this way." I nodded at him. He does have a point there.

"Well, I am a bored," I admitted.

"I knew it!" he called.

"Shut up," I muttered. Moments later, we sat on the bench eyeing the car. My friend, Kenneth, lit up a cigarette. He offered me one, but I said no.

"I don't smoke anymore," I said. He raised an eyebrow at me.

"Since when?" he asked.

"My girlfriend," I said.

"Oh, the one that dresses like a Goth little girl?" he asked.

"That's the one," I said with a nod.

"How is she these days?"

I sighed. "Stressed as all get out."

"Work?"

"Yep." I turned to him. "Say, you feel like doing anything later. Like just going on a bike ride or something?"

"Nah," he said. "My brother's girlfriend is in town."

"Which one is she?" I asked. "Hot pants or booty shorts?"

"Neither," he said. "This is a new one."

I raised an eyebrow at him. "What's she like?"

"Talkative from California with bright pink hair and really short." He put his hand up to his chest. "She comes up to about here."

"I see. Say, can I help you out with anything?"

Kenneth gave me a strange look. "Why?"

I shrugged at him. "No reason."

My pal backed up some. "You're scaring me, man!"

I shrugged at him. "Perhaps." What else could I do until this long morning was over?
