19 ReviewsI don't understand how I'm going to keep up with this "update" thing that I'm supposed to do
Apartment
"Jennifer! I'm back! I got pizza from that place on the corner that you like... Jennifer, why is it so goddamn dark in here? Ugh..."
Amanda Elliott flicked on the lights in her Brooklyn apartment. After dumping the pizza on the kitchen table and her things on the chair, Amanda noticed her roommate who was sleeping on the couch in the living room.
Next to a guy.
Here we go.
Amanda grabbed the stranger's arm and pulled him off the couch.
"What the f-"
"JENNIFER, PLEASE SHOW THE NICE BOY THE DOOR."
---------------
Jennifer walked back into the kitchen, where Amanda was drinking a glass of water.
"You know, I'm 18. I've been 18 for a while. I'm a legal adult and I can have guys over."
Amanda raised an eyebrow. "I'm 19, and I'm helping pay the rent."
The younger girl stuck her tongue out and asked, "Hey, did you get the pizza? Dude, it's late, I'm hungry." Her eyes were wide and excited.
Amanda yawned and nodded. "Um, yeah, it's on the table." Then she went to their bedroom to change into her pajamas. "You can start without me," she yelled from the room, "I'll be right back."
When she returned, Jennifer was back on the couch with a slice of pizza. Amanda joined her.
"Mmm... New York pizza is one thing I'm proud of. One thing that New York got right."
"Definitely."
"Hey." Jennifer sat straight up and looked at her best friend. "It's really late-" she glanced at the clock, "HOLY FUCK IT'S LATE, GIRL-any luck with finding a job?" Strings of cheese hung from her mouth as she looked at Amanda intently.
Amanda was silent.
"Well..." Jen pursed her lips. "Better luck next time, okay?" She patted Amanda's shoulder. "Anything else interesting happen today?"
Amanda's eyes widened almost imperceptibly.
"I never caught your name! I'm Gerard."
"I'm Amanda."
The older girl shook her head. "Nope! Nothing interesting happened."
But she smiled to herself. "Nothing worth talking about. You?"
Jennifer flicked her black hair behind her shoulder and sighed. "Well, I've officially decided that I am delaying college at least two years."
Amanda choked. "What?"
"Yeah. My band got a gig at a radio show next week, and at practice today we sounded really great!" Jen's face was earnest. "I know it's a long shot, but I think we can make it work!"
Amanda rubbed her eyes. "Okay, okay, um, I'm a little scared, but... I have faith in you guys. I believe you. But this has to work, Jennifer. I worked hard to make it here to Brooklyn, and please, just, don't let me down."
Jennifer nodded gravely. Then the two girls hugged it out like girls do.
"So who was that guy from earlier?"
Jennifer grinned. "Oh, that's Spencer. He's my drummer."
Amanda choked again. "You're dating your own drummer? That... Jen, that's a horrible idea!"
"No, no. We didn't DO anything... We watched some TV... We made out a little..." Jennifer had a little smirk on her face and was twirling her hair. "It was nice."
Amanda stood up, stretched, nodded, and said, "Yeah, I'll let you handle that... Good luck."
Her best friend looked up from the couch. "Oh, I will, girlfriend. Hey, you're starting school next week though, right? You ready?"
She nodded and replied, "Yeah, I have all my supplies and shit, paperwork is all done... God, too bad we couldn't get an apartment in Manhattan, so I wouldn't have to take the fucking subway every fucking day..."
Her roommate nodded. "Mm, preach it, sister."
Amanda continued. "But yeah, I think I'm all set. I'm not sure what the curriculum is but I can just wing it, right?"
Jennifer shrugged. "I guess. That's what I always do, and look at how awesome I am."
The other girl crossed her arms to her chest and retreated to the bedroom that they shared. "Okay. Night, Jen."
"Night, Manda."
A/N: Well, I'm sorry that this was so crappy. I just needed to introduce my major character and her roommate.
That's Jennifer Flores, if you can't tell. I love Jennifer.
But yeah. Things will pick up slightly next chapter, along with more introductions. I think. I'm not planning this out so well.
