It was a crisp Sunday morning in Brooklyn, and Amanda Elliott was just gaining her senses, savoring the last day before a whole semester of waking up early as fuck.
"Elliott! Get your ass out of bed and into the kitchen, woman! I have a friend I want you to meet!" Her roommate stood in the doorway expectantly. "Hurry up, babe!" She flicked on the lights in the bedroom, earning a "Fuck you, Jen!" from Amanda. She smirked. "You bet, girlfriend!"
For some reason, Jennifer was awake at 7a.m. on a weekend. That never happened, so out of intrigue and curiosity, Amanda slowly rolled out of her bed, rubbed her eyes, stretched, and began the walk to the kitchen of her shared apartment. She could hear murmured bits of conversation even before she was fully conscious.
"Yeah, she's been looking for a job, and I know you work at an art supply store or something..."
"Mm hmm, Aaron Brothers. Yeah, we could probably use a fuckton more people. Do the crappy jobs. Organize stuff, shelve, help people. Like me."
"Yeah..." Jennifer's voice trailed off into a smile. "Gee, I haven't seen you in forever."
"Yeah. It's been too long. Last time I saw you, you were... 16? Now you're all grown up, and you have an apartment... the apartment looks great, by the way...
"Well, I couldn't do it without Amanda."
The dark-haired mystery guy had his back turned to her as she stepped into the kitchen dining room.
"Amanda!" Jennifer stood up and grinned. "This is my buddy, Gerard."
Gerard turned around. "/You're/ Amanda?!"
"I never caught your name! I'm Gerard."
Swoon, Ellie. Swoon.
Her eyes went wide. "Gerard? Uh... hi!"
Jennifer looked between the two. "No way."
Amanda turned to her friend. "Yeah... We met on the subway a few days ago."
Gerard nodded, his own expression shocked.
The younger girl narrowed her eyes, taking it all in. "Okay."
Amanda raised her eyebrows. "Okay?"
Jennifer shrugged. "Yeah. Um, I was just telling Gerard how you need a job, and there are some spots open at the place that he works... and conveniently you guys are already BFFs, so I think this works out beautifully, don't you think?"
Jennifer nodded and smiled at Amanda as if she were a child. "Okay, baby. Why don't you get changed and go with Gerard to his work? Then you can get started, understand?"
Amanda nodded silently.
"Okay, child. Be free. I'm going to Spencer's place."
With that, Jennifer picked up her bag and walked out the door.
The two strangers turned to face each other.
"Hi, Gerard. Nice seeing you again."
"Yeah." He smiled. "We should probably get to Manhattan, that's where my job is."
Amanda smiled back. "Alright... let me get changed, and we can go, okay?" She started walking backwards back into her bedroom. "I'll be right back." She turned around and sprinted.
A few minutes later, Amanda came out of the room wearing Jennifer's Green Day shirt, a sweater, and jeans. "Let's go."
A/N: This was kind of short as well. I'm sorry.
I think I have a better idea as to where this fic is headed, if at least for the next few chapters. Predictably so, though.
I write this on January 3rd. I'm in the Cayman Islands right now... I leave for Dallas tomorrow, Friday afternoon. We're going to connect a shit ton of flights and we won't get home until 10 pm Saturday, I think. I may not survive this; if not, just know that I love all you FuckWads.
UPDATE: I am home safe. I LOVE AMERICA
Ellie, that's for you, girl. If you haven't read it already.
