INT. ALBANY HOTEL

Deanna is talking to Ray, Frank, Natalia, Mitch, and Latron.

DEANNA
We can't all be crowded around her.
It will be too intimidating.

FRANK
What do you think will work best?

DEANNA
I think just her uncles. I know
she's bonded with the two of you,
but it's still a lot of people.

RAY
It's okay. You can catch us up.

The group disperses, but not very far.

Gerard and Mikey come in with Grace. They sit on either side
of her on the couch, and Deanna takes a chair a little to the
side.

There are many curious glances from the others, but they try
to remain unobtrusive.

DEANNA
Hey Grace, I want to talk to you a
little bit about your time at
Scarecrow. Is that okay?

GRACE
I guess.

DEANNA
Great! Did they tell you why they
were taking you?

GRACE
They said the Zones were bad for a
kid, and I'd be happier with them,
but I wasn't.

MIKEY
We know.

GERARD
That's why we came to get you.

DEANNA
Were there other children there?

GRACE
No. Only me.

DEANNA
That sounds boring.

GRACE
It was, but they had me do stuff.

Gerard and Mikey exchange worried glances.

Deanna leans forward encouragingly.

DEANNA
Like what?

GRACE
It was always talking to the
computers, but it was different
things.

DEANNA
What kinds of things?

GRACE
At first it was just checking the
network and trying to figure out
what was wrong when there were
problems. It was like practice.

DEANNA
And then they had you do harder
things?

GRACE
Liu wanted me to get the computer
to talk to the satellite to learn
things, but the connection wasn't
working.

GERARD
Blind has a satellite?

GRACE
No, it wasn't theirs. That's why it
wasn't working.

DEANNA
Do you know what you were supposed
to find out?

GRACE
She wanted to take pictures, I
think.

DEANNA
That's really helpful. You have a
good memory.

GERARD
Grace, how do you talk to the
computers?

GRACE
I just think it in my head.

MIKEY
Can you do it now?

GRACE
There's not a computer here.

DEANNA
So you need to be close to it?

GRACE
Yeah. I guess. Can I go now?

GERARD
Just one more question. Do you
remember when you started doing it?

GRACE
There was one at the pre-school,
and I remember talking to the video
panel at home.

GERARD
I was just wondering.

DEANNA
You can go play now.

MIKEY
But stay on the patio.

GRACE
Okay!

Grace slides off the couch and runs outside.

Gerard takes a deep breath.

GERARD
That's how they found her. That's
why they came.

MIKEY
We had no idea.

DEANNA
I don't see how you could have.

MIKEY
That's why the hacking always went
better when she was around. I
thought I had a knack.

DEANNA
You did. Your knack is named Grace.

The other adults have now converged on the group.

NATALIA
Well? What did she say?

DEANNA
Grace appears to be able to form a
mental link with computers.

There is a stunned silence.

NATALIA
Have we seen anything like that
before?

ROGERS
No, that's new. I can see why they
wanted her.

GERARD
There's more to it though. They
were trying to use her to hack a
satellite.

MITCH
There are working satellites out
there?

DEANNA
We don't know. She wasn't able to
do it.

MIKEY
It might not be functional, but
maybe it was just blocked.

DEANNA
It's not clear whether they were
just trying to gather intelligence
or something more, but it makes you
wonder.

NATALIA
What else is out there?

DEANNA
And what is Blind hoping to do with
it?

MITCH
They're going to come after her
again.

GERARD
Then they're going to need to fail.

Mitch nods.

LATRON
Do you think there could be a way
to use it? Sabotage them or
something?

GERARD
It's worth thinking about it. She
needs to be close to the computer,
so there's probably nothing we
could do now.

MIKEY
And we have no idea what the
current state of their network is.

DEANNA
I think a lot of what she couldn't
tell us stemmed from her own lack
of knowledge. Maybe with a little
tutoring she could tell us more.

GERARD
Who's the most technical?

CUT TO:

INT. ALBANY HOTEL

It is about a month later.

Rogers is tutoring Grace in one corner.

GRACE
But how do they connect the
network?

BECK
There are a lot of different ways
you can do it. Sometimes with
cable...

Park is sitting bored at a table in front of the window.

Otis comes up to him with a checkers set.

OTIS
Look what I found.

Park smiles, and Otis starts setting up for a game.

In a room upstairs, Natalia and Ray have Beck sitting on the
bed. They are using a mirror to make it look like Beck has
both arms, working on controlling his phantom limb symptoms.

Beck, clenches and unclenches a fist with his remaining hand,
but it looks like he is doing it with both hands.

BECK
It's helping.

NATALIA
Good!

In what used to be a small fitness center, Deanna and Mikey
are practicing defensive moves.

MIKEY
You know, if you would start
actually trying to practice kung fu
rather than just copying the moves,
you'd get farther.

DEANNA
Do you really believe all that?

MIKEY
My teacher wasn't totally orthodox,
so I guess I'm not either, but it's
not completely wrong.

DEANNA
I just feel a lot better having a
gun at my side.

MIKEY
How very Han Solo of you.

Deanna laughs, surprised.

DEANNA
That movie came out before you were
born.

MIKEY
I've still seen it.

DEANNA
And I still have this move down.

Deanna flips Mikey and lands on top of him.

DEANNA (CONT'D)
Take that, Kung Fu mind.

Back in the lobby, Grace is done and goes over to see Frank.

GRACE
I'm going to draw a computer for my
Mom. Or maybe Grandma and Grandpa.

FRANK
Why don't you ever write to your
Dad?

GRACE
He wouldn't get it. Will you draw
with me?

FRANK
Sure.

Latron has wandered nearby, and Frank smiles at him.

FRANK (CONT'D)
Want to draw?

Latron shrugs and they all sit on the floor together, around
a coffee table.

Gerard, Jacob, and Mitch are now talking to Rogers.

ROGERS
It sounds like they've resurrected
a lot of older technology. It's not
really surprising.

MITCH
No, they've probably had to cobble
a lot back together.

ROGERS
The most interesting part is the
panel network. You could reach
everyone under Blind control at
once.

GERARD
And with a satellite hookup, you
could go outside of Blind control.

ROGERS
But probably be detected.

JACOB
Could that be masked?

ROGERS
Maybe. It's risky.

MITCH
Isn't everything?

GERARD
Going back to outside of Blind, do
we have any idea what's out there?

Mitch is about to answer, but gunfire bursts through the
front window. Otis is dead.

LATRON
Pops!

Latron stands frozen, staring at Otis' body.

Park ducks but is hampered by his still healing injuries.

Suddenly it seems like World War II in the Albany.

The Draculoids are not just in front; they are attacking from
all sides.

A blast through an upstairs window shatters Beck's mirror.

Beck gets some minor cuts, but one large mirror shard embeds
itself in Natalia's thigh and she cries out in pain.

Mikey and Deanna leap up from the floor.

DEANNA
What's going on?

MIKEY
Time for blasters.

They both draw guns.

Back in the lobby, Mitch, Beck, Jacob, and Gerard draw as
well.

Frank pulls Grace against the couch, using it for shelter.

FRANK
Latron! Help me get Park!

That breaks the spell on Latron. Ducking, they swoop in and
help Park away from the window, bringing him behind the
couch.

Frank pulls out Fun Ghoul.

PARK
Help me kneel.

It's painful, but Latron and Frank get Park into position
where he can shoot.

Latron draws as well, and as the Draculoids move in, they
begin to fire.

Ray picks up Natalia and carries her out of the room. Beck
trails after.

BECK
I can't shoot left-handed yet.

RAY
Just keep her from bleeding to
death.

Ray goes back to the window and begins to return fire.

As Mike and Deanna exit the fitness center, they find two
Draculoids coming in through a side door.

Mike and Deanna shoot, each hitting one, in perfect sync.
They high five.

MIKEY
I like your style.

DEANNA
You should.

Mikey looks at the door the Dracs came through.

MIKEY
Can we block this?

They hear a crash from the lobby.

DEANNA
No time.

Mikey and Deanna run to the lobby and find the source of the
crashing noise. A Drac car has crashed through the French
doors, and four Dracs are in the process of exiting and
firing, or firing from inside.

Ray dashes out of the room, and updates Beck and Natalia.

RAY
I don't see any more outside.

BECK
I hear them in here.

RAY
I'll try and keep them from getting
this far.

Ray hustles to the lobby.

Drac bodies are piling up, but there are still too many live
ones.

As Deanna is shooting at one, another sneaks behind her.
Deanna stomps the foot and elbows the neck and then shoots as
it drops.

Mikey sees and is impressed.

DEANNA
I still used the gun.

Ray takes out two coming through the side door.

There are no more live Dracs in the lobby.

JACOB
Is it clear?

MITCH
We need to do a perimeter sweep.
Latron, come on!

The rest survey the damage.

There are minor cuts and scrapes, mainly from debris, but the
place is destroyed, and they have lost Otis.

Mitch and Latron return.

LATRON
There's nothing moving out there.

MITCH
But we need to get out of here.

RAY
Wait! Natalia's hurt.

DEANNA
Great. Who treats the medic?

JACOB
I'll help. Show me.

RAY
Come on.

Ray heads back upstairs, with Jacob and Deanna following.

Natalia is sitting against the wall looking pained, while
Beck looks worried.

The mirror shard is still in her leg.

DEANNA
How could you leave it there?

Deanna goes to reach for it.

NATALIA
Don't! That could be the only thing
keeping me from bleeding out.

DEANNA
You can't stay like that.

NATALIA
I know. Help me get up.

Ray helps lift Natalia into a standing position, but the pain
is too great, and she groans.

RAY
Forget this.

Ray gently picks Natalia up and carries her to the next room,
laying her down on the bed.

NATALIA
I'm going to need my bag.

Beck runs and gets it from the other room, grateful for
something to do.

NATALIA (CONT'D)
Thanks.

Natalia reaches into her bag and pulls out scissors.

NATALIA (CONT'D)
I need this fabric out of the way.

DEANNA
I guess that should be my job.

Deanna cuts off the pant-leg, starting just above the wound.
She tries to go gently, but everything hurts. It probably
would anyway.

Ray hovers protectively.

Natalia pulls out more tools, including forceps and sutures.

NATALIA
Okay, when we pull it out, I may
start gushing, and we're going to
need to stop the bleeding and sew
it up fast.

RAY
Can you do that on yourself?

NATALIA
It's not ideal.

RAY
How do we help?

NATALIA
Direct pressure when and where I
tell you, and if that's doesn't
work, try and keep me from passing
out.

Downstairs, they continue to assess the situation.

LATRON
I counted eight dead outside.

GERARD
And another six in here.

MIKEY
We left two in the hallway.

FRANK
There's four there now.

ROGERS
Eighteen? We've never seen that
many together.

PARK
Is it because of...

It doesn't feel right saying it, but Park nods his head
towards Grace.

Mitch shakes his head.

MITCH
We stayed here too long. We should
have broken into smaller groups and
moved on. I should have-

DEANNA
No! It's not your responsibility to
keep everyone else alive. The truth
is, it felt good staying here.

Deanna enters the room, followed by Beck and Jacob, and
finally Ray carrying Natalia.

NATALIA
This time was really good. Maybe it
just lasted too long.

Ray sets Natalia down on a couch.

MITCH
It was nice, but we still need to
go, and we can't all go together.

Everyone nods in resignation.

JACOB
We should do some salvaging.

LATRON
We need to bury Otis.

MITCH
You're right. We'll do that at
sunset, and then move out.

They move out, stripping bodies, siphoning gas, collecting
unused ammo, and trying to make the best of a bad situation.

Natalia bandages a few scrapes.

Gerard finds Mikey and Grace staring at the wreckage.

GRACE
I wish I still had the Kid. I could
have helped.

GERARD
I know, but we lost that with the
car when we went to find you.

GRACE
Can't I have my own gun?

Both uncles are unsure how to respond.

MIKEY
We'll see.

GERARD
Right now, go look in the kitchen
and make sure we have all the food.

GRACE
Jacob already did that.

MIKEY
Check just once more to be sure.

Grace goes off to the kitchen to look.

Gerard turns to Mikey.

GERARD
I don't want her to have one, but
how can we say no?

MIKEY
I don't know.

Deanna brings out Rosalie in her cage and goes over to
Natalia.

DEANNA
I'm not sure what to do with her.

NATALIA
If one group goes to the Bunker, we
can keep in touch.

DEANNA
Has anyone decided where to go?

MITCH
I'm thinking of running by the
Grove, maybe the Roundhouse later.
Maybe you should go to the Bunker.

NATALIA
They'll want to stay together, and
I'm not sure if they'll be ready to
go back.

It was not obvious that Gerard was listening, but he was.

GERARD
It's okay. We can go, if you think
we've been gone long enough.

MITCH
All right, that's almost a full van
there. Maybe take Latron.
The rest of us will take the other
van and take Rosalie.

Everyone nods, but no one is excited.

At sunset, everyone gathers around one more freshly dug
grave.

The two vans are parked out front and ready to go.

Otis is lowered in.

Latron is holding the case where Otis kept his plant samples.
He moves to place it in the grave.

JACOB
I don't think you should do that.

LATRON
It was his favorite thing.

MITCH
He'd want someone to keep doing it.
I think he would like you to do
that.

LATRON
What's the point? Nothing's ever
going to grow out here! And we're
all just going to-

Latron sees Grace looking worried, He can't complete what he
was going to say, so he just goes back to his original
question.

LATRON (CONT'D)
What's the point?

JACOB
I don't know that it will ever
work, but it's a beautiful idea,
and it made me feel better to know
he was trying.

LATRON
And then he died! They always die.

Natalia has been leaning against the van, but she limps over
to Latron.

NATALIA
It's been a really bad month, I
know.

LATRON
They're all bad months, but this
one's been worse. It just...

NATALIA
It hurts. I want to hug you, but I
don't know if you want that.

Latron struggles with that, as a teenage boy, but there is
more to it than that.

LATRON
Say you do hug me, and it feels
better for a while, and then you
die too; it just makes it worse!

NATALIA
Don't you see? That's why you need
to love as many people as you can.

Natalia takes Latron into her arms and holds him. Deanna and
Grace join in.

The men stand around awkwardly.

NATALIA (CONT'D)
And always remember that being a
man will make your life stupider
and harder, and that's why you need
to be grateful for us.

Latron gives up and hugs them back.

The vans are mostly loaded, but a few people are saying good
byes.

Next to Natalia, Deanna rubs Mikey's arm lightly. It is
playful, yet awkward.

DEANNA
Thanks for all the lessons. I'll
keep them in mind.

MIKEY
We'll see each other again.

DEANNA
Yeah, I know.

NATALIA
If you do any trading before you
come along, see if you can get me
some pants.

Deanna nods over at Ray, who is checking the tires with
Frank.

DEANNA
Are you sure you don't maybe want a
sexy slit skirt or something like
that?

NATALIA
Just go.

Natalia and Deanna hug.

DEANNA
Hey, at least you have Grace for
girl talk. The closest I'll have is
Jacob.

NATALIA
Be nice to him.

Deanna shrugs, annoyed, but she then goes to her van, where
Jacob is holding the door for her.

Everyone is loaded up. Mitch is in one driver's seat, and
Gerard in the other.

They wave and head off into the night.

EXT. BUNKER

The van carrying Grace, Gerard, Frank, Ray, Mikey, Natalia,
and Latron pulls up and parks.

As they get out, they look at Jane's bike, still there. The
helmet is on the seat and the key is in the ignition, just
like it always was when she was inside.

Mikey gives Gerard a worried look, but Gerard just shrugs and
shakes his head.

Ray is watching Latron, who pats the bike seat and turns
away.

CUT TO:

INT. BUNKER

Gerard wanders into the sleeping area, and finds Jane's
clothes folded on the cot, her jacket and medical bag nearby.

She is gone, but she is still everywhere.

Gerard closes his eyes, and just breathes.

Latron comes in after him.

LATRON
Oh.

Mikey, Ray, Frank, and Natalia gather round also.

MIKEY
Are you okay?

GERARD
Yeah. We knew...I knew it was going
to be like this.

Latron picks up the jacket, still looking good from his last
treatment.

Ray picks up the medic bag, and Natalia gets an idea.

NATALIA
You know, Ray, you were pretty good
helping with my leg. Maybe you
should take the bag. Start helping
with the medical things.

Ray looks surprised, then understands, and moves to continue
the chain.

RAY
Right. You know, with Latron being
in charge of the planting now,
maybe it makes sense for him to
have the bike.
(to Latron)
You can cover more ground.

Latron's eyes light up a little.

LATRON
You mean it?

Gerard understands, and makes his own contribution.

GERARD
That's a good idea. You should take
the jacket then, too. They go
together.

Latron looks at Gerard searchingly, understanding the cost.

Seeing that it is okay, Latron smiles a true smile now, and
puts the jacket on. His wrists extend past the sleeves, but
he could not care less.

Latron looks at Gerard again, wanting to reciprocate.

LATRON
Wait, there was something she
always had...

Latron checks the pockets and pulls out the trifold and holds
it out to Gerard.

It is not something he was prepared to see. Gerard sits back
down on the cot.

Mikey looks at Gerard confused, and takes the item from
Latron, opening it.

There is more to it for Gerard, but for Mikey it is the first
time he has seen the faces of his sister and parents since
they died.

MIKEY
Oh.

The rest gather round and see.

Grace wanders in.

GRACE
What are you looking at?

Gerard recovers for Grace, like he can for no one else, and
smiles at her. He takes the trifold and calls Grace over.

GERARD
Hey, this is a present I made for
Jane once. See the pictures?

GRACE
There's Mom and Grandma and
Grandpa! Where's Dad?

GERARD
We took this picture before they
got married. They had just started
dating.

MIKEY
Yeah. We were talking about taking
a new picture, but then we wanted
to wait until you were born so you
could be in it.

GERARD
And maybe anyone else who was going
to join the family.

Grace looks at the picture with her mother some more.

GRACE
Can I have it?

It is hard to say no to her, but the other thing would be
harder right now.

GERARD
I think I need to hold on to this,
but you can look at it any time you
want, okay?

GRACE
Okay.

NATALIA
Hey, Grace, come help me find
something for dinner.

Natalia takes Grace's hand.

As they are going, Natalia whispers to Ray.

NATALIA (CONT'D)
And this is not because I believe
in conforming to sexist
stereotypes.

RAY
I know. You should probably take
the jeans.

Natalia looks down at her own mutilated pair and nods
unhappily.

Natalia and Grace go.

Latron, Ray, and Frank follow, but Mikey lingers.

MIKEY
I wish I could do something besides
constantly asking if you're okay.

GERARD
You're doing fine.

MIKEY
And you?

GERARD
I will be.

Mikey nods and he leaves.

Gerard leans back on the cot, hanging on to the pictures.

In the next room, Latron looks at Natalia.

LATRON
I think I should get started.

NATALIA
What?

LATRON
Get out planting things. You know
there's more people than room here,
and I've got work to do now.

NATALIA
You'll be by yourself!

LATRON
No. I won't.

It is clear this is what he is going to do. Maybe it is what
he needs.

FRANK
Well, let's take a look at the
bike, make sure everything's
working right.

LATRON
Cool.

Frank and Latron go out to the vehicles.

RAY
Is that how it works? You support
them and give them wings and they
fly away?

Natalia nods, but is only partially convinced.

NATALIA
I just worry about him. He's lost
so much.

RAY
Maybe that's why he needs some time
away.

Without thinking, Ray puts an arm around Natalia's shoulder.

That leaves both of them aware.

RAY (CONT'D)
Well if the womenfolk are working
on dinner and the menfolk are
working on vehicles, we should be
out there. Come on Mikey.

Mikey shrugs at Natalia, and he and Ray go to join Frank and
Latron.

Natalia can't quite pull off irritation, so she just smiles
as she and Grace start looking through cans.

INT. BUNKER

It is two weeks later, early in the morning. Most people are
still asleep.

Deanna comes rushing in.

DEANNA
We're here! Where is everybody?

Gerard comes out.

GERARD
What's going on? We didn't hear the
van.

DEANNA
Car broke down about a mile back.
He's helping Rogers now.

GERARD
Who? Where's the van?

DEANNA
Didn't you get the message? We sent
Rosalie.

GERARD
We haven't seen her.

Deanna's face falls.

DEANNA
I guess she didn't make it. So you
don't know.

GERARD
Know what?

Don enters, helping Rogers, just as Grace comes in behind
Gerard.

GRACE
Daddy!

Don gently but hurriedly disengages from Rogers and kneels
down, holding his daughter as tightly as he can.

DON
Grace! My Gracie. You're so big.

The commotion draws everyone into the room.

NATALIA
What's going on?

MIKEY
(stunned)
That's Grace's father. That's Don.

NATALIA
That's what Luis was trying to tell
us.

GERARD
We thought you were dead!

Don tears his eyes away from his daughter, though he does not
let go.

DON
I thought all of you were. And
Cathy?

GERARD
I'm sorry. It's just us.

Don nods, choked up.

DON
I didn't think...I mean, just this
is amazing.

GERARD
It is. Welcome back.

Don squeezes Grace again.

DON
Thank you.

CUT TO:

INT. BUNKER

Everyone is sitting around listening to Don.

Grace is cuddled into his side.

DON
An explosion went off right after
our group reached our first work
spot.

FRANK
How did you escape?

DON
Dumb luck. I stopped to take a-

Don looks down at Grace, and edits.

DON (CONT'D)
...to take care of some business,
and I was just far away enough to
be only knocked over, but not
knocked out. There was some follow
up with gunfire, but I just crawled
and rolled and hid until I couldn't
hear them anymore. My whole crew
was dead in seconds. They were so
excited to have a job and get out
of town. I guess they got tired of
us offering to fix something they
didn't want fixed.

GERARD
And maybe to get you out of the way
too. That was the same day they
came for Grace. What did you do?

DON
That night I snuck back into town.

NATALIA
I would have been terrified.

DON
I was, but I was more worried about
not making it back. Then when I got
there, nothing was left.

MIKEY
They set the house on fire.

DON
Burned to the ground. I asked next
door. They said you were all dead.

GERARD
They probably thought we were.

DON
It didn't feel right. I was afraid
they would turn me in, so I took
off again. If I'd had any idea you
were out there...

GERARD
We didn't know either.

DON
All I wanted to do was strike back
at the people who did this.
Eventually I found some friends.

GERARD
Us too. I guess it just took us
longer.

DON
It wasn't easy. I ended up pretty
far north, and it sounds like
you've been more south.

RAY
Now what are you going to do?

DEANNA
I was telling him he should take
Grace to the Farm. It's safer.
Better for a kid.

DON
I'd feel guilty for doing that.
It's like I'd be leaving the fight.

FRANK
No. It's not. We've already lost
her once. You should get her as far
away from here as possible.

Don wraps his arm a little tighter around Grace.

DON
I can never thank you enough for
getting her out and keeping her
safe.

GERARD
We would never have made it without
Mikey.

Mikey has had his head down, contemplating, but he snaps back
up at this.

MIKEY
That's not true.

GERARD
It is. If you hadn't been working
with Frank and Ray, you wouldn't
have known, and you wouldn't have
been able to come for us. The rest
of us just had our eyes closed.

DON
He's right. Thank you.

Mikey is a little embarrassed by the praise, but it feels
good too.

MIKEY
Well, Gee's pretty much pulled his
own weight since then, and I
couldn't have done it without Frank
and Ray.

DON
I will never be able to repay any
of you.

GERARD
You don't need to.

RAY
The truth is, taking care of Grace
has been really good for us.

DON
Maybe we should all go.

Glances are exchanged.

GERARD
I think we belong out here. Maybe
see if we can give her a future.

FRANK
Come on Ray. We should go take a
look at that car.

DEANNA
I'll show you where it is.

NATALIA
Rogers, let's go have a look at how
that leg's healing.

People file out, leaving just brothers, brother-in-law, and
daughter/niece.

DON
You have nice friends. Tactful.

GERARD
We got pretty lucky.

MIKEY
We'll be okay.

DON
It is so good to see you both.
You've grown too.

GERARD
You're right.

GRACE
Show Daddy the pictures.

Gerard smiles and takes out the photos.

Don looks at Cathy, smiling sadly. He tries to take away his
focus.

DON
And that's Jane. I'm sorry. Deanna
told me.

GERARD
It's going to be okay.

INT. THE BUNKER

Gerard is dreaming. He is standing on the hill again,
watching Jane walk away. He tries to call after her, but no
words come out.

Jane still turns and looks back, but she is staring at
something behind Gerard. She looks confused and frightened.

Gerard turns too and sees Jane again, but different. This
Jane is haggard and dressed in a white gown. This Jane
screams.

Now Gerard is wide awake. He looks over. Everyone else is
asleep.

Gerard gets up, and goes out to the table where they had
talked. It would have been out here that she planned it.

Gerard sits down. It must have been a dream. He is soon
joined by Ray.

RAY
Hey.

Gerard nods and Ray comes and sits down across from him.

GERARD
Did you hear anything?

RAY
Why?

Gerard looks embarrassed.

GERARD
I heard Jane scream.

RAY
I'm sorry.

GERARD
I'm not crazy.

RAY
I know.

GERARD
I used to have this dream all the
time. We'd be back at school, and
she was walking away and I couldn't
stop her. After we hit the road, I
didn't have it anymore.

RAY
Maybe because you gave up on seeing
her again.

GERARD
But then I did see her. And now...

RAY
It's back.

GERARD
The scream was new.

RAY
After what happened...

GERARD
I know. It just felt so real.

Ray nods sympathetically.

RAY
Do you want company?

Gerard shakes his head.

GERARD
I just need to be alone.

Ray leaves and Gerard takes out the pictures, torturing
himself again.

INT. BUNKER

It is the next morning.

Don and Grace are getting ready to leave for the Farm. Deanna
and Rogers will go with them.

Grace is hugging Frank, while Don talks quietly with Mikey.

Grace hugs Ray, and Mikey, while Don shakes hands with Ray
and Frank.

Gerard kneels down for Grace, and they hold each other tight.

GERARD
I'm going to miss you.

GRACE
Then come with us.

GERARD
I feel like I need to be here now.
Maybe I'll come later.

GRACE
I wish you'd have a baby with Jane.
That would make you happy.

Gerard is in anguish, but he forces it down for Grace.

GERARD
I wish I could.

GRACE
Why don't you?

GERARD
She died. Don't you remember?

GRACE
No. She got hurt, but she didn't
die.

I thought it was dead. But with no warning,
It rose from its grave last night, and came
And stood by my bed till the early morning,
And over and over it spoke your name.
Its throat was red where my hands had held it,
It burned my brow with its scorching breath;
And I said, the moment my eyes beheld it,
"A love like this can know no death."
