When you compare our patrol with BL/IND's patrol... we are the ones who end up sucking eggs in a dark corner...
Still sitting on the couch, I had my head in my hands, my legs shaking. I was panicked. I haven't been this panicked since... since 2013! And that was the worst year ever!
I don't know why those helicooters were there, or why there were so many. But I know one thing, if I have been caught by one of those lights, I wouldn't be here right now. I would probably be ghosted. Thank God I got inside quickly.
Spike jumped on the couch, sitting next to me and rubbing his head against my right arm. It tickled, and one thing I can't handle is being tickled. When he rubbed his head against my arm, I shivered slightly and let out a small giggle. Spike then licked my arm, his tongue making me giggle even more.
"Silly boy," I said, looking at Spike amd petting the Golden Retriever's soft fur. "At least your here to calm me down." Spike licked my pale face and got on my lap, laying down. I smiled and ran my hand through his golden fur. It was like, running your hand against a fuzzy pillow, which was oddly soothing.
Soon enough, Spike closed his eyes, falling asleep on my fishnet covered legs. I didn't know a dog could fall asleep that quickly, considering the fact that we're in the fucking desert, which is not really a good and quiet place. Dracs roam in this desert because of Korse's orders. You have to keep an open eye twenty four seven, or you might end up like a mindless Drac.
Hopefully you'll end up like a Drac who can still turn back into their normal selves. Otherwise, if you end up like the brain dead, living zombie Dracs, you have no way of turning back. You're stuck like that forever. That's why this desert is dangerous. Especially in Danger Zone 9. Nobody goes in there unless they want to face a fate worse than death. And whoever goes in there, never comes out. Luckily for us, we live in Zone 6. Far away from Battery City, and far away from Zone 9.
I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard footsteps coming my way. Looking up, I saw Ghoul, taking a seat in the chair across from the couch. He just gave me a small smile, small enough that it was very visible, but I'm pretty sure it was a smile. "They said they'll be in a minute. Kobra accidently shoved a fork in the toaster," he told me, rolling his eyes.
I rolled my eyes again and let out a sigh. "Again? To think, he seems like he would be the most mature out of the group!"
"I know right?" He chuckled a little, looking at the ground and moving his foot, side to side. "So... this is awkward..."
"Yeah... we would end up arguing by now... but..."
"Yep... um... how's life?"
"You should know. We live in the same base."
He chuckled again. "Yeah... forgot about that."
"GUYS! THEIR BONDING FOR ONCE!" we both heard Missile Kid yell. Hearing her yell caused the both of us to look at the ten year old. She was smiling, holding both her hands together up to her chest. Radio Harlequin and Jack of Hearts doing the same.
Toxic Rayine then walked in the room. "How sweet. They aren't arguing for once." Toxic said, taking a seat. "So... what are you guys talking about? Love?" Jack of Hearts took a seat next to Toxic, giving her a high five.
I rolled my eyes. "You guys are so mature."
"Come on!" she responded, looking at me with her piercing blue eyes. "Really? Don't deny the love." She said the last part, making a heart with her index fingers.
"It's bound to happen," we heard Syanide Skull cut in, walking in the room with Party, holding his hand. "I bet it will."
"Deal!" I then looked at Party, remembering our argument from before. "Sorry about earlier."
"It's okay." He took a seat, leading Syanide Skull as well.
Kobra Kid and Jet Star then walked in the room, their faces covered in suet, amd their hair up, probably from the toaster Kobra ruined. It probably caught on fire or something, and probably electrocuted them. Jet had a pissed of face. "If you ruin another toaster, I will fucking kill you. You got that?" he asked Kobra in a harsh tone. He then took a seat next to Jack of Hearts, putting his arm around her. Jack of Hearts tried her best to not laugh at the sight of her boyfriend.
Kobra stuck his tongue out at Jet, walking towards Radio who was also trying not to laugh. Of course, dealing with Radio, she would say something. "You look fucking hilarious!" she blurted, her tanned face turning a little pink. Kobra frowned playfully at her. Nightmare Fuel then ran into the room, showing up late as usual.
"Sorry!" Her face was also covered in suet. "Kobra's fault!"
Kobra lifted his arm up. "It's not my fault the toaster was taking slow!"
"Enough!" Party yelled, making Spike lool up real quick from his slumber, falling back to sleep a second later. Party then looked at everyone. "Okay... well enough lolligagging." He then looked at me. "Ghoul said you saw something outside when you were taking Spike out."
I nodded my head, running my hand through Spike's fur again. I bit my bottom lip and looked at the sleeping dog. "I did... I think that..."
"You think what?"
I looked at Party, my brown eyes turning a slight color of golden brown from the light. "I think patrol might be back."
Patrol is what us killjoys fear the most. It wasn't Korse we feared. It wasn't the zones tricks we feared. Oh no... out of anything we feared the most, it was patrol.
BL/IND may be a stupid company with mindless workers who suck on eggs in a dark corner, but when it comes to their patrol out in the desert, they were actually... smart. The patrol they have in Battery City is just the monstrous Dracs securing the perimeter. But they are totally different in the desert. They beat our patrol by a million.
Our patrol, all we have is ourselves, the Trans-Am, and our ray guns. But BL/IND's patrol is a whole other story. They have helicopter, some I saw tonight. They have search lights, ray guns, machine guns, and a whole butt load of stuff we don't have. Our patrol compared to theirs equals us being the ones sucking eggs in a dark corner.
Toxic then jumped out of her seat. "What!? You're fucking kidding me, right?" she practically shouted.
I shook my head, looking at the lime green haired girl. "I'm not kidding."
"They haven't been around since we brought Missile in," Jet Star added. "And that was at least four years ago."
Did I mention that usually patrol comes out when Korse wants something? When Missile Kid joined the group, Korse had everyone in Better Living trying to get her and kill her. She was only six at the time too, so that's a lot of pressure. And if we get something that might have us take down the corporation, they will try to get it.
Nightmare Fuel then spoke up. "Do you think it's because of Spike?" she asked, her face serious. "Patrol is always out when we have something they want."
"Good point, Fuel," Party Poison said, looking at Skull who was standing next to him. "But why would they want Spike?"
"I think I can answer that." Everyone looked at me. "At the gas station a week ago, when I first found Spike... he protected me by nearly killing a Drac. He cracked the Dracs skull, but the Drac was still alive. I think the Drac might have told Korse what Spike did."
"So they basically want a Golden Retriever who acts like a Bloodhound mixed with a Pitbull?" Radio asked. "Well they can't have Spike! Spike is ours... besides... he makes the place less moody... you know..." She pointed at both Ghoul and I. "You guys are dramatic and act as if you're on your period half the time."
"Hey!" Ghoul replied. "I'm a guy! I don't have a period. She does though." He pointed at me.
"Oh shut the fuck up you octipussy!" Ghoul stuck his middle finger at me, leaning back in the chair and crossing his arms. I looked at everyone. "Guys... no matter what happens... we have to protect Spike."
"He's just a mutt though," replied Toxic.
"He may be just a mutt to you, but I'm going to make sure Spike is protected. If they get this dog, then who knows what could happen. He can lead us one step closer to shutting down Better Living once and for all."
Right after Toxic Rayine rolled her eyes at me, Jack of Hearts spoke. "Maybe it's not Spike they're after."
Jet looked at her. "What are you talking about babe?" he asked her.
She smiled and blushed a little, before explaining what she meant. "Well... not only does patrol go after anything we have... they also go after runaways from the corporation."
Party jumped up. "You're right! That's also why they were after Missile!"
"But who would runaway?" Ghoul asked, still leaning back. "If it was a runaway, they must be very sneaky to get out of Battery City. That place is secured with cameras and Dracs. It even takes US skill to get in and get out without getting caught."
"It would be pretty stupid to go after a dog though," Missile added. "What's a dog going to do anyway? Chase you and bite your butt off? Even if Spike did that to that Drac, it would still be pretty dumb to go after a dog." For a ten year old, Missile Kid is smart. "I was a runaway and thy searched for me. Maybe this is a runaway or a traitor. Who knows? There could be plenty of reason why patrol is out."
"True," said Skull. "And as long as they don't know where our base is, we're good, right? If they wanted to get Spike, or kill one of us, they couldn't because we're under here."
"The only question is though... who would patrol be looking for?"
Meanwhile in Zone 4
The nineteen year old boy in the desert for what seemed like forever. His white clothes were practically sticking on his pale skin from sweating in the hot area, his clothes covered with dirt as well as his pale face. Shaggy brown hair getting in his face, stickingbto his forehead, bothering him. He was exhausted from being out in the middle of nowhere, with no water or anything.
He stopped running for a little bit, trying to catch his breath, his stomach growling. It felt like that he was going to pass out on the dirty surface below his feet. "I need to sleep somewhere before I end up passing out here," he told himself. His stomach growled again, making him sigh. "And find something to eat."
The boy looked out in the distance through his light brown eyes, and noticed a dark formation in the distancen. It looked like a building of some sort. Maybe this was where he could camp for the night. Breathing in deeply, he kept his eyes on the building. "Please don't be a mirage." And with all of the stamina he had left, he ran to the building as fast as he could.
He tripped a few times from being in a rush, but he had to get to that building before the search helicopters came back. Finally reaching the building, he saw that the building was an abandoned gas station, probably had no sign of a life in it, besides some rodents. As he started to walk in the gas station, he saw a Better Living kiosk. "Ah ha!"
He jogged to the kiosk and looked at it, figuring out what to do. Maybe he could try to hack it? No, that wouldn't work. "THAT'S IT!"
He then started to hit the kiosk with his left arm, trying to get things out of there. Finally some things came out of the kiosk. A ray gun and a flashlight. "At least now I have a weapon to protect me and a light source."
He then walked in the gas station slowly. The dark and dusty olace was quite frightening. The boy then turned on the flashlight, shining it. He jumped when a few rats scurried across his white shoes. "Stupid pests..." he mumbled.
A red spot then shined when he shine the light on the ground. There seemed to be like a blood stain. "Obviously someone was here before me and got beat badly..."
The boy continued to walk, trying to find any food source. Walking into the back of the gas station, he saw some refrigerators, still working? "Oh thank fucking God!" He practically ran to the refrigerator and pulled out a tub of ice cream. Opening the lid, he jumped to see mold on the ice cream. "Ew!"
His stomach growled, making him groan. "I guess I have to skip dinner."
The boy continued to walk around the gas station, trying to find a spot to sleep in. When he found a spot, he just sighed. "This will have to do for now..."
He got on the ground and lay down, trying to make himself comfortable on the cold, hard ground. His stomach continued to growl, but he ignored it.
Once he got comfortable he closed his eyes, slowly falling asleep. That last thing he said before his slumber was, "I will find you, no matter what it takes."
