I laid there in my warm comfy bed fighting the urge in my bladder to get up and pee. Have you ever had those mornings where you’re just so lazy you don’t even want to get up and go to the bathroom? Well that’s me right now. Eventually my bladder was threatening to explode so I jumped up and hurried to the bathroom that was adjoined to my bedroom. Once I was finished I was headed back to my bed but before I could even sit down my phone started ringing. Groaning loudly I grabbed it off the charger on my dresser and laid back down. The caller ID said it was Zack and of course my insides were attacked violently with butterflies.

“What Cruze?” I mumbled, my voice still thick with sleep.

“Morning Sunshine. What’s my favorite girl doing?” He asked cheerfully. I swear he’s way too happy in the mornings.

“I was trying to be extremely lazy and not get out of bed.” I replied as I snuggled further down in my thick cotton comforter.

“Well I’m coming over, I need a haircut.” He answered.

“I hate that you’re such an early bird.” I complained, closing my eyes desperately wanting to doze back off.

“It’s 1:30 in the afternoon babe.” He chuckled.

“Oh shit.” I groaned. I hate sleeping the day away, especially when I’m off work. He laughed before hanging up. I heard the sound of my door being unlocked then opening and closing. Sometimes I think giving him a key wasn’t the smartest move, even though it was his idea. He claims he needs one because I’m a single female living alone. Although we stay at each other’s house so much I don’t see why it matters. I kept my eyes closed as I listened to him quietly shuffle into my bedroom then carefully lifted up my comforter. He crawled in beside me. I shivered slightly when his hand lightly grazed my bare leg as he tried getting comfortable. The smell of cologne and cigarettes danced into my nostrils bringing a smile to my lips. I always loved his scent. I slowly opened my eyes to find we were nose to nose. His big, green eyes were wide and staring into mine. I couldn’t help but laugh at him.

“C’mon Addy. Wake up.” He whispered with a playful tone.

“I’m awake.” I answered, not sounding very convincing.

“Don’t make me drag you out of this bed.” He threatened.

“Go away.” I groaned and rolled over throwing the comforter over my head. He sighed heavily and I felt him shift on the bed.

“Well then you leave me with no choice.” He said in a devious tone. I continued to ignore him as I felt him get off the bed. Suddenly I felt the warmth of my comforter being ripped away. I squealed at the sudden coldness that engulfed me.

“Zack!” I whined.

“Sorry babe but you’re making me do this.” He laughed menacingly. He grabbed ahold of my ankles and began dragging me across my California king sized bed. I yelped in shock but managed to grab the edge of my mattress before being completely pulled off the bed. “Let go!” Zack laughed as he continued to pull me towards him.

“Never!” I laughed as well trying my hardest to hold on. I felt a bit exposed since I had slept in just my boy shorts and a t shirt. I felt him moving his grip up my legs before locking onto my knees. I held on to the mattress tighter as he continued to pull my bottom half up in the air in an attempt to get me off the bed. “C’mon Zack let go!” I whined. My fingers were slipping and my arms were getting tired from holding on.

“I must say I have a pretty nice view from back here. Have you been working out?” He teased. His comment took me by surprise and broke my concentration making me let go of the bed. We went flying backwards. He landed on his back and I landed on top of him.

“You jerk!” I exclaimed and punched his chest playfully. He sat up wearing a wide grin.

“What?” He asked innocently.

“You play dirty.” I huffed as I stood up and walked over to my dresser to find something to wear.

“You love it.” He replied winking at me. I rolled my eyes and scoffed. “I’ll meet you in the kitchen.” He said exiting my room. I slipped on the light colored denim jeans and changed into a white tank top. I ran my fingers through my very long chocolate locks before pulling them up into a messy ponytail. I applied a light layer of eyeliner and mascara around my hazel eyes calling myself done. I sprayed some perfume on my neck and wrists. I secretly hoped he liked the scent. He loves a woman who smells good. Glancing in the mirror once more I headed downstairs to my kitchen where Zack sat patiently waiting.

“So what you go in mind?” I asked gathering my hair cutting kit.

“Just do it how you done it last time. It’s grown out.” He replied as I wrapped the black cape around him. I began wetting his hair and combing through it. “You smell really good. Is that a new perfume? I haven’t smelled that one on you I don’t think.” He asked me. I smiled, pleased that he had noticed.

“Yeah I picked it up yesterday.” I answered happily.

“So um…I met somebody.” He said after a few silent moments. My heart dropped. I knew I shouldn’t be surprised, it’s been almost two months since his last fling. I was really enjoying most of his attention but I guess all good things must come to an end. I knew just like all the others it wouldn’t last.

“Oh yeah? Who’s the lucky lady this time?” I asked trying to mask the hurt and jealousy in my tone, which I have learned to master now by the way.

“Her name is Maddie. I met her a few weeks ago at a bar.” He explained.

“Well good for you.” I replied as I finished up his hair.

“Yeah we’ve gone out a few times…” He answered a bit of nervousness in his tone. I was surprised to hear that. Ususally he gets nervous on first dates and comes to me for a pep talk, which usually results in me lecturing him about being a man whore. So to hear he’s already been out with her a few times hurt a bit.

“Really? Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked making sure to keep my emotions in check. He took the cape off and dusted the excess hair away. I frowned as I looked up at him.

“I’m sorry, I was just trying to—“

“Avoid a lecture?” I replied cutting him off. He sighed heavily. “I’m sorry I just try to look out for you. You never know when you’re going to run into some crazy fan Zack. There’s tons of girls out there who know you and that you have money. You tend to think with the wrong head sometimes and one of these days it’s going to get you into trouble. Excuse me for being protective.” I muttered angrily as I cleaned up the mess on the floor.

“Aww c’mon Addy. Don’t be mad at me please. Besides she’s different. She’s not a fan she didn’t know who I was at all. There’s something different about her. I can’t explain it but I like it.” He explained, a goofy smile gracing those ever so lovely lips of his. This should normally be the time when the best friend becomes really excited to see her other best friend so happy because they found someone special. Call me selfish but fuck that. This is the exact opposite of what I wanted to hear. What is this girl capable of? What if she manages to somehow tame Zack? She’s already got him talking crazy! Damn…what if this isn’t just a fling? How will I handle that? I don’t think I could, it would probably kill me. “Hello? Earth to Addy. Are you okay?” Zack said waving his hand in front of my face. I hadn’t realized I spaced out. Mental slap to the forehead.

“Um yeah sorry.” I replied putting my things away.

“Hey.” He said softly, turning me to face him. “Don’t be mad at me okay? I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings. You’re my number one girl. I need your support otherwise I’m lost.” He said smiling at me. Sometimes I wondered if he knew how I felt towards him. I don’t think he does but times like this I question how he couldn’t possibly know. Even though I knew he was trying to make me feel better this dreadful feeling I had still lingered. I forced a smile feeling guilty for making him feel bad. So what if I’m being a baby? If you were in my shoes you wouldn’t exactly be jumping for joy either.

“Whatever makes you happy babe.” I replied hoping my facsade was holding up. He grinned happily.

“Well you’ll get to meet her tomorrow at Mark’s barbeque. She’s great, I know you’ll love her.” He said excitedly. I couldn’t help but smile at his happiness. Although it kills me, I’d rather be miserable instead of him. In my book he deserves the world.
