And What A Best Friend Is
2 ReviewsArchie and Atlanta are fighting again about the dumbest things. It goes a little too far though this time. A/A story, probably a short one so i wont have much time to update.
When someone goes missing, people are bound to notice. But for some reason, the absence of Archie and Atlanta seemed perfectly normal to the five other teens. Neil hadn't even noticed since he was already sleeping (and what makes you think he'd care anyway) and Herry and Odie paid no attention to this. They thought that maybe they were out at a late night movie, or just hanging out together. They usually didn't return until about 2:00 in the morning so it didn't surprise them. Theresa was a little paranoid, but after reassurance from Jay who agreed with Odie and Herry she relaxed slightly and went to pick out the movie from the shelf so she could watch it.
She and Atlanta had made plans to pick out a movie to watch that Sunday afternoon, and then they'd go to an awesome party that night. It was hot and sticky long weekend, but the perfect time to go out and have some fun. She knew that Atlanta wouldn't like Chick Flicks or anything girly, but didn't want to see a horror film in the afternoon. So she grabbed an action film that had a cool front cover and brought it down, not even glancing at the name. When her fingers slid over the shiny letters of the title as she grabbed it, she thought of watching it with Atlanta. The movie set off a trigger in her mind, releasing a vision to flood her thoughts and force her to watch the best friend who was going to be with her tomorrow, jump off of a building. It was quick but the vision she saw in her eyes was terrifying, almost causing her to faint. But she didn't. Instead, she decided to panic.
She froze for a second or two in the middle of the room, and then her eyes spun out of control. She looked franticly around the room, searching for anything that might help. A person, a phone, her PMR, anything! Her eyes slid over many things- the TV set, the clock, the movie in her hand, an empty bowl on the floor, the remote, some scattered food, a few books, pictures of the seven friends, a person walking into the room, someone who was calling her name... she stopped her state of panic and rushed over to the person, Jay held her firmly, but gently, in his arms.
She cried lightly, and told him what she'd seen in her vision. But he didn't reply, maybe because he thought it was true and didn't want to say it aloud, or because Theresa probably needed some time to calm down. But either way, he decided to hold her. She stopped crying and they pulled apart enough to look each other in the eye. But expected a beautiful kiss, they both felt the awkward position they were in and moved away, muttering and gazing at the amazingly interesting floor.
After both had snapped out of it, Jay turned to her and said, "There's no way of knowing what happened. But Atlanta would never be stupid enough to do that. She might get the thought, but would never actually do it. So come on, let's get something eat and, you know, talk. Don't worry; it's 10:30 so they should be back in a few hours." So they went to the kitchen and sat down, not even glancing out the window.
They got something to eat and walked over to Theresa's room. She lay on her bed, while Jay flopped himself down on the chair next to her door. He was drinking his soda when he felt a burp come suddenly, and couldn't hold it in. Theresa looked at him from the book she was pulling out from under her bed, and giggled, "Not bad Jay. A little quiet though." She laughed and his face turned slightly red, but he was thankful it wasn't dark enough for her to notice. He then thought of an idea and said, "Oh yeah, let's see you do better." She looked at him questioningly and smirked. She then prepared herself, and let out a burp even louder than his. They laughed hysterically until they'd calmed down, and Jay had a try. It was the loudest so far, and definitely the grossest. Once again, the room seemed to be flooded with so many giggles that the two were choking on them, literally. After at least two hours of non stop burping, talking, and inside jokes the two retired for the night. Jay walked to his room and Theresa got ready to get some sleep in her bed. They couldn't help but fall asleep with giggles filling their mouths the entire night, and Theresa was very surprised when Jay came back to her room.
"I'm so not tired right now; I could jump off of a cliff just to get me to sleep." They laughed a bit and he came in. She lay on top of her covers and he sat in the same easy chair, sprawled out at a different angle this time. They laughed some more, until Theresa looked at the clock by her bed and fell silent. Jay was left laughing alone for only a second, but stopped when she did. She turned to him and said, "I thought Archie and Atlanta should be home by now. It's 2:30 now and I haven't heard either of them come in." She thought for a minute, and just as Jay opened his mouth to talk Theresa had another vision.
She saw Atlanta, lying lifelessly on the ground across the road. Then a shadow came right beside her and tried to land as close as possible to her, but was only checking their distance. They landed on their ankle and a loud shattering noise was heard. Little pieces of gold were flying towards Theresa, and she had to shut her eyes and shake her head around to get the vision out of her head. Jay walked over and he once again comforted her. Then she told him what had happened, and she pulled back harshly. On Jay's shoulder, was a little spot of blood. He looked at her and tilted her face up. On her right cheek, was a little cut that was bleeding. She looked at the floor and picked up a piece of gold. It looked exactly like the one that had been flying at her in her vision, and like Archie's ankle brace. They rushed outside, and looked around. It was pitch black out and absolutely nothing could be seen. So Jay rushed inside and grabbed his PMR, turning on the light. He moved it around until it passed over two people, lying across the road.
Instantly, they knew it was their friends. The purple mohawk and red spikes were a pretty good hint, so they rushed over. The two were sleeping and smiling, despite the pain. Both were astounded, and almost smiled as they saw Atlanta resting on Archie. They couldn't think of anyone cuter at the moment, but quickly forgot about the happy thoughts. Jay lifted Atlanta from where she was, careful not to disturb her. Theresa picked up the pieces of gold lying around from Archie's brace and went to help Jay inside. Then Jay attempted to lift Archie, but soon called on Theresa to help. Together they carried him to the couch to lay beside Atlanta. After putting blankets over them, and somehow managing to not wake them, they themselves went to sleep.
But before Theresa and Jay went their separate ways Jay said to her, "Hey Theresa, I don't think Atlanta's gonna wanna go to that party tomorrow night." She looked at him expectantly, waiting. He sighed, knowing she wanted him to beg. "Do you think maybe we could go?" Another pause and a grin from Theresa. "With me?" then she said, "Come here," and he walked closer to her. When they were standing only inches apart she leaned forward and... Flicked him on the nose. "You sure take a long time to ask questions!" She joked, "But sure. Goodnight Jay. "'Night Theresa," he replied, and they both went off to their rooms.
Archie and Atlanta giggled, until they were sure that they couldn't possibly have any left in them. "Hey Arch, did you see that?" "Yeah, I've got a better view than you do, remember?" They laughed until Atlanta spoke again, "Well, in my opinion, I like when someone confesses themselves in a more dramatic way, right Arch?" she raised her eye brow and grinned, and he smiled too, but was once again mesmerized by the wonderful and famous... floor! Then she gave him a little kiss on the nose and said, "Goodnight Archie." Then he said, "Goodnight Atlanta. I love you." She smiled in the darkness, and was about to fall asleep when he said, "Hey, you know what would be really funny? If we pretended that you wanted to go to the party, and Jay wouldn't be able to go. And then at the last minute you say, 'never mind' and-" But he was cut off by her giggling and said, "Okay, but we at least have to give him some time to prepare, fair?" He agreed and she told him once before they fell asleep, "Archie, thanks for being such a good friend." But he just asked her, "Did I touch your heart today, Atlanta?" she was puzzled by the question and asked him why he wanted to know. "Because a good friend is someone who reaches out for your hand, but touches you heart," and she said to him, "Then Archie, you're the best friend anyone could ask for," and they fell asleep together.
