A Long Awaited Date
5 ReviewsThe teens are heading home! Cronus is defeated, and there are no more worries. After a sad parting, and a joyful reunion, things turn upside down for Archie. Can friends from the past save him from...
Archie lay in his bed, unable to sleep. He felt so bad about what he'd done, it was torturing him. He couldn't help but wish he'd never left his step-father, but then an even worse thought struck him. His step-father! After he'd met up with Atlanta, the thought hadn't popped into his head once. But now it was swarmed with worries about his father, and he felt scared as ever. What was his father doing right now? Was he looking for him, had he forgotten about his step-son totally? Or- his mind was pounding, and he knew that all of this was because of his date with Atlanta. Why had he been so stupid, he couldn't stay here? Not after what he'd done. But he couldn't exactly leave either, he could never do that. So he made another decision, he'd have to talk to Atlanta about what had happened. But first, he'd review the night over again, and decide what his first words would be. So the image in his mind began, and he saw her.
(Archie thinks back to a few hours ago, 8:23 to be exact.)

The door slammed shut, and Atlanta walked through, yelling out, "Hey Arch! I'm back!" as she entered. He closed the door to his room, and rushed to greet her. He smiled at her as she came through, heavy text books in her hands. She placed them on the side table in the living room, and flopped down on the couch. "Whoa, that was tough. The teacher just kept going on, and on, and on, and yeah. So I just need about half an hour to get ready, then I'll meet you outside, K?" She turned her head towards him, panting because she'd obviously run to get home as soon as possible. He nodded his head and left to return to sorting his stuff in his bedroom, calling out to her sure. She then stood up, and he watched her walk to her room through the small opening in his door. She breathed a light sigh, and walked back.
He then closed his door fully, and opened his back pack up once more. He took out his extra shorts and bottle of water, and shoved them somewhere. Then he finished getting his stuff unloaded within 10 minutes, and went to see if he could get a drink from in the fridge. He pulled out a can of soda, and savoured the taste. He hadn't tasted anything like that in a while, and almost forgot what it was like. Then he finished the can off, momentarily forgetting that he'd only drank water for the past 3 years, and it seemed to him like he'd been drinking this for a lifetime. Then he went into the living room and watched the Jetsons for a little while. By 9:00, he was practically falling asleep. But then he heard the hurried footsteps of Atlanta, and a door close. Then he saw her come down the little hallway, and stood, ready to go. "Alright, I'm ready. Sorry I took so long. But I'm here now so..." She stopped and he stood up, secretly admiring her.
They stepped out the door, Atlanta ahead. She was such an angel, in her pink and orange halter top, her the slim-cut jeans, and the design of a dragon on the buttocks. She walked so perfectly, her swirly earrings and matching necklace dangled helplessly, and her designer O'Neil shoes were still of the same taste Atlanta had had over 3 years ago. She turned and said to him when they reached the motorcycle, "You wanna drive? It's probably been a while since you have so give it a try." She smiled at him, and he wondered if he should. It had been a long time since he'd driven a motorcycle, and was worried he wouldn't be as much of a flowing and wonderful ride as when Atlanta had ridden it. But he didn't want her to think he was a wimp or anything, so he put on his helmet and got on. He felt her smooth touch as she slid on behind him, and wrapped her arms around his body. It felt so great to feel her, and he smiled to himself.
He started the engine, and she smiled at the loud noise and shouted, "Come on already! We're gonna be late if you spend all night remembering what a vehicle sounds like! Let's go already!" He revved it one more time and they started to drive, but not before he shouted back, "Oh and I suppose that you're so fast at getting ready? Wasn't it you who took over an hour just to get ready?" She groaned just loud enough for him to hear, and he chuckled at the fact that they still fought like little kids. She laughed a bit too, and they drove in silence the rest of the way. Not that it mattered though, they wouldn't be able to hear each other over the roar of the motorcycle.
They reached the theatre and hopped off, Atlanta speaking as she took her helmet off, shaking her red hair to get it back to the style she'd wanted. "Wow that was a really nice ride. I thought you might've forgotten how to ride after all of this time." she smiled, and he smirked at her saying, "Never! It's in the blood, I'm just naturally gifted." She laughed and said, "More like naturally conceited! You sound like Neil all over again." They laughed and walked into the movie theatre, Archie tossing Atlanta the keys on the way.
After buying tickets to see a comedy called You Me and Dupree, they bought some popcorn and a Diet Coke and took their seats. Atlanta wanted to sit at the very front, while Archie wanted to sit at the back of the theatre. So being the gentleman that he was, Archie decided to give into Atlanta demands. They sat right at the front, and it was actually more enjoyable from there Archie found. The movie wasn't even a quarter way through when they'd finished the popcorn, but hadn't touched the drink. So after finishing it off, Archie went to take a sip. He thought the movie was really funny, so he didn't take his eyes off of the screen. He leaned towards the drink and took a sip, but then turned his head to look at the drink for a second. When he did, he saw a beautiful redheaded woman drinking from the other straw. His eyes widened a bit, and his face matched the colour of his friend's hair.
She felt eyes staring at her, and went to look at Archie. She saw his eyes widen, and staring at her as they drank from the same cup! They were so close; anyone who was looking at them would've thought they were actually kissing. Wild thoughts rushed through her head, like a stampede of elephants, she wanted to smile, and keep laughing with Archie, Most of all, she wanted him to laugh. She fought the urge to smile, because he wasn't. He began to back away quickly, blushing crazily. But she wasn't blushing, she was perfectly content. So instead of backing away like him, and turning to look in some other direction, she grabbed him before he could get any further. She pressed her lips to his, and kissed him.
He was too shocked, he was so amazed. All along, he thought he'd be the one to confess his feelings and she would back away, confused and upset. But it wasn't because she was the one who loved him and was always dying to meet him for real. He was so surprised, yet happy. He kissed her back for only a second, before pulling away and running out of the theatre shouting, "I'm sorry Atlanta! I can't!" He didn't know why, but he just didn't feel like it was right. He loved her, and he knew it. So it couldn't be that. Why had he backed away then? Had he really stopped loving her, and was just afraid to admit it? No, it wasn't that. It was the fact that for so long, and he hadn't known if she felt the same way as him, it was too much for him. It was as if he couldn't believe it, as if he was so happy he couldn't truly accept it and that it was too good to be true.
So he ran, ran away from her and his love, his most precious kiss ever. He couldn't stand it, so he just ran. He ran until his legs hurt so much that he collapsed without thinking, and couldn't even move. He'd run so much, that he had fallen right in the middle of the road. His legs hurt badly, and there was a car coming towards him! But he couldn't move out of the way, his legs wouldn't lift him, he would never get far enough just by using his arms. So he lay there and closed his eyes, waiting to get hit. "I love you Atlanta!" he yelled out, so that his promise wouldn't go unfulfilled. Just as the car was about to hit him, a gust of wind knocked him off of his feet, and sent him flying towards the opposite side of the road. He saw a blurry figure and a shout of "I love you too Archie!" before his vision went fuzzy and his weariness caused him to fall asleep, his eyelids finally giving in.

He opened his eyes from his deep thoughts, and a little tear fell down his face. They had finally confessed their love to each other, but he felt so ashamed for running away. It was the perfect moment, and he broke it. But there was nothing he could do about it. Until now. Silently, a young lady squeezed through the door and made her way ever so slowly towards him. She leaned down beside him, and they kissed. They kissed for almost an eternity it seemed, until both of them fell asleep, lips still pressed.
