That I can reach you only now pains me more than I can say. I can feel you. Your spirit, not black at all but purest white and so bright, so terribly pure, is melting into mine. If we could have touched like this sooner, would it all have been different?
So many times, I wanted to shake you. To scream, to weep, at your cruelty. Forgetting me. Hating me. Fighting me, when all I ever wanted was the peace we struggled for, together. But I couldn't. All I could do was put you to sleep, time and again, hoping, ever hoping, that next time you woke, you would have dreamed of me.
And then I would touch your sleeping face and imagine that any moment now, you would open your eyes and smile at me, batting my hand away even as you pulled me closer. Do you know how many times I lay frozen, trembling, wanting to kiss you awake, but knowing that the you who would welcome such a gesture was gone?
Sometimes I did hate you, for abandoning our memories, for leaving me to bear the pain alone, for leaving everything up to me. But as much as I hated you, I loved you more. I still do, now, when it is far too late.
It is gratifying and it is infuriating that now, that only now, as we die together, as we sacrifice ourselves together, finally you have embraced me again. The Soil of your soul, the Mist of mine, they touch in a way I have missed, so very dearly. And before the remains of our spirits are scattered to the wind, tell me, one more time. I deserve that much, don't I?
