Very nice start. I liked the almost stream of consciousness nature of the monologue. It got a bit rough at parts, like how Hedwig's fate seemed forced somehow, but in general I liked it and I am looking forward to seeing where this story goes. With just this bit we have no hint of the eventual plot.
Will the Wizarding World once again need Harry to do their dirty work? Will they plead and beg his forgiveness until he acquiesce? Or will he be forced to intercede by either the "good guys" or the bad threatening his family?

I think it has a lot of potential, but it seems familiar. -

You know, I have a feeling that if Dumbledore had lived past HBP this is what would happen after Harry kills Voldemort. He is very paranoid and I can see him doing everything in his power to either kill Harry physically or magically. There is no way he would let someone with even more power than the Dark Lord he could not kill himself to live, that's the way he operates. The guy loves being in power and will not stand anything that gets in the way. Why else do you think Dumbledore was so against Voldemort after he came back with his Death Eaters? He was a threat. He wasn't a threat when he was still Tom Riddle, but then he became Voldemort and he had to go!
Sorry for the rant. Anyway, I like this fic and I look forward to reading any new chapters you write.
