i bet your thinking. wtf is going on? why are there so many updates?
I loved it.
What I didn't love? The fact that I couldn't see my feet anymore. It just.. Kept growing! Frank loved to talk to my stomach. It was SO unbelievably awkward. Gerard got a job at The Cartoon Network, drawing comics and what-not. He liked it which was great, but it was in New York, so he had to take a ferry there everyday. I didn't get to see him much. The only reason it upset me, is that I wanted him to be there when the baby was born, and it was really unlikely that he would be.
Frank walked into my apartment, to see me sitting on the couch looking really uncomfortable.
"You have that glow about you," he said, sitting next to me.
"Stop trying to make me feel better. It's impossible." I replied, repostioning myself again. "And that glow, is more likely just beads of sweat."
He laughed. "Is there anything I can get for you?"
"I'd love a water dear,"
He hopped up and went to the kitchen to get one.
I groaned as I felt another sharp pain in my stomach. I had been feeling them all morning.
"What's wrong?" He asked, entering the living room with a bottle of water in hand.
"I've just been having these weird pains all morning."
His eyes widened. "Evan! Those could be contractions! You have to go the hospital right now!!"
"Frank, they are not contractions, I still have a month to go. Its probably just something I ate."
He gave me a look, "Get up, I'm taking you to the hospital."
"Do you know how HARD it is to get up when you are the size of a baby whale!?"
"Evan!! GET UP!!"
I was shocked that he yelled. "Fine," With his assistance I stood up and he ushered me to the car.
I felt my cell phone vibrating in my pocket. I fished it out, and looked at the screen. I didn't recognize the number. "Hullo?"
"Gerard, its Frank,"
"Hey man, what's up?"
"Evan's in the hospital. She went into labor really early and nobody will fucking tell me what's going on!" he said, raising his voice with every word, my guess was as a hint to the hospital staff around him. "I don't know if she's okay, if the baby is okay or anything. But I think you should come here as soon as you can."
I was already walking out the door and headed toward my car. I officially hated myself for taking this job, knowing it would be at least an hour till I got there.
"I will. Take care of her," I replied.
"You know I will."
I closed my phone and tried to concentrate on the road as I drove toward the ferry.
Sure enough an hour later, I pulled into the hospital parking lot and rushed inside. I began talking a million miles a minute to the receptionist. She asked me to slow down. I started over.
"I'm looking for my girlfriend. Her name is Evan Donaghy-"
"She's still in with the doctors, I don't know her status currently but you can wait with Mr. Iero just down the hall there."
I scoffed and walked in the direction she pointed me in. Eventually finding Frank and taking a seat next to him.
"I talked to a doctor. They told me they can do a paternity test right away and we can know tomorrow." he said, really quietly.
"I don't even fucking care about that right now. I just want to know if she's okay."
"Mr. Way? Mr. Iero?" We both looked up to see a doctor standing in front of us. "Evan is still really tired, she is doing okay. And the baby is stable...she's just really fragile."
"She?" I asked.
"Yes, you have yourself a baby girl," he said smiling. "Evan explained the situation to us, and we're just going to take a swab from each of you, then you'll know by tomorrow around noon."
"Can I see Evan?" I asked, more like pleaded.
"I don't know if that would be the best idea, she's extremely tired."
"Okay. But just one of you. And it can't be for too long." He lead me to a room, and pushed open the door for me. She was on oxygen and there was no color left in her face. She was lying there...looking lifeless and it really worried me. They never explained to us what was wrong. I walked to her side and pushed her hair off her damp forehead.
She didn't move.
I kissed her cheek, "Evan? I love you. Everything will be okay, I promise." I grabbed her hand, and watched her sleep for a while. Until the doctors told me I had to leave, and could come back in the morning.
"Mr. Iero is with the baby, would you like to join him?"
I nodded and followed them to a nursery. We looked really fucking out of place in a room with rainbows and flowers painted on the walls.
Frank was standing over one of those plastic domes they put sick babies in, I think they are called incubators. He was just standing there staring down at what was potentially his child. I stood next to him.
"She's so fucking tiny," he said.
"She'll be fine, the doctors know what they're doing." I reassured him, patting him on the back.
He sighed and turned back to the baby.
"Frank, I think we should just go, and come back in the morning."
"I can't leave..." he whispered. "I don't want to leave in case she wakes up."
"She's not waking up anytime soon buddy, let's go."
He sighed again and finally turned to leave.
