Living Will

Disclaimer: I don't own the twisted reality of Silent Hill, which is for the best really.
Warnings: Spoilers for the second game.
Notes: Drabble for the LJ interest challenge, this one was for my Silent Hill interest. No idea why James came to mind for that.
Living Will

One of the first conversations they'd ever had dealt with living wills. Though he couldn't remember why they'd brought it up in the first place.
"No," Mary answered firmly.
"What, why?" James was caught completely off guard. He'd thought her to be the type to want to hold onto life until the very end.
"I don't know," Mary sighed and leaned her head back against his shoulder. "I guess I just don't want to live if I'm going to be a vegetable."
"Not even if there's the slightest chance you'll recover?" he asked curiously.
"No, a slight chance isn't worth it. I just keep having this image of being stuck inside a shell unable to do anything, and no one knowing that I'm there," she shuddered. "It's- Well, I'd rather die than be like that."
They talked more about it. They must have, but that was the only part of the conversation he could clearly remember.
James opened his eyes. The uneasy look on Mary's face fading into memory as he pulled the pillow away from the shell's face. He hoped the Mary that had been trapped in it was free now.
