Chpt 24:

Patrick and the others arrive home tomorrow, which means Pete will be returning to his attic lair tonight. I can't say I'm
truly disappointed to see him go, but I won't go as far as to say I'm excited either.

The baby started moving last week. Pete and I were watching Jeopardy, he was about to answer a question about macidamia nuts
When I let out a surprized gasp.

"What?" Everything stopped for a split second as it moved again.

"It moved." I marveled hands pressed delicately over the four month old bump.

He looked at me awestruck before asking nervously, "May I?"

I nodded and he cupped his hands gingerly around the bump, "Amazing." He said in a whisper.

We didn't exchange words after that, content to sit in silence with the other.

My phone rings from its place next to my head on the arm of the couch.

"Mmm...Hello?" I mumble through a stifled yawn.

"Hello beautiful, did I wake you?"

The sound of his voice causes goosebumps to form on my neck and a smile to spread across my lips.
"Nah, I was just nodding off."

"Are you feeling alright?" Concern shines through his altered tone.

"Peachy, promise."

"And?"

"Baby is fine too, you know aside from kicking me in the bladder and making me vomit." I smile.

"Good," He pauses to yawn, "I miss you."

"I miss you too."

The line went silent save for the sound of his breathing,"How's Pete?"

I knew he would ask, I just kind of hoped he wouldn't. I swallow the lump in my throat, "I think
he's geting better."

He lets go a sigh of relief. The truth is Pete is getting better. I'm just not sure how much of that will stick
when he has to go home. The baby facinates him, much like I imagine it would a five-year-old.

Pete lay with his head pressed against the bump for the duration of season 4 of Friends, smiling anytime the
goldfish sized blob squirmed.

"Andy's at the door, we must be leaving for the airport."

"Oh," I sigh running my fingers through Pete's hair.

"I love you. See you soon lovely."

"Love you too. Bye Tricky." I close the phone and return it to its place beside my head.

"Patrick?" Pete says more of a statement than a question.

I nod and smile before ruffling his hair, "you need a hair cut."

"Meh, Maybe." He says before nestling his head against my shoulder. He'll be going home tomorrow. Its for the best. At least for my sake it is.
