“Hey Gee, there you are”, shouted Kelli from on top of the stage “Was beginning to think you weren’t coming”, she stated looking down at her clipboard.
“Well I’m here now aren’t I”, he replied in a huff
“Ok everyone on stage, we’ll do a run through of The Black Parade, you ready Nick?”, she hollered at the sound booth, which resulted in two thumbs up.
Everyone climbed on stage and grabbed their instruments, Gerard took his place in the front and pulled the mic out of the stand. There was a tinkling sound of piano keys as the intro kicked in and Gerard began.
“When I was
A young boy,
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.
"Son when you grow up
Will you be the saviour of the broken,
The beaten and the damned?"
Kelli watched in awe as she always did, she loved Gerard’s voice and even though he wasn’t putting full effort in right now he still sent shivers down her spine, this was one of the best things about this job, she got to see the band play nearly every night for free, hell she was getting paid to do it, and she was sure she would have been a fan even if she wasn’t involved, she was just really proud to be apart of what was happening to them and especially to be able to count them among her closest friends.
"Will you defeat them,
your demons, and all the non believers,
the plans that they have made?"
Because one day I'll leave you,
A phantom to lead you in the summer,
To join the black parade."
When I was a young boy,
took me into the city
To see a marching band.
He said, "Son when you grow up
Would you be the saviour of the broken,
The beaten and the damned?"
Now the guitars kicked in and Kelli instinctively started banging her head to the music which Gerard spotted, he smiled to himself, she was so cute sometimes.
“Sometimes I get the feeling
She's watching over me.
And other times I feel like I should go.
Through it all,
The rise and fall,
The bodies in the streets.
And when you're gone we want you all to know
We'll Carry on,
We'll Carry on
Though your dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
Kelli listened to the rest of the song, dancing about and occasionally exchanging smiles with Gerard. As the last chord was played everyone in the arena clapped and cheered before going back to whatever they were working on.
“That rocked you guys, no problems with the sound there”, she beamed, pleased that their first run through had gone so smoothly.
Gerard jumped off the stage and walked towards where kelli was standing, he slapped her raised hand in a high five and walked off to find something to drink.
“So is that it, do you need us for anything else Kel”, asked Mikey who was still onstage
“No I made sure everyone did what they needed to do during one song so you guys can relax now until tonight”, she replied
“Ace”, he said impressed that Kelli was so organized.
“Just make sure your back here at 7 so you got time to get ready and make sure you got everything you need”,
“That’s cool”, added Ray
“I’ll see you guys backstage at 7 then”, she said, and they all nodded in agreement.
Kelli headed to the sound booth to see how Nick was doing, after all it was part of her job right?
Mikey joined Gerard at the refreshment table and grabbed a coke.
“She’s good at this huh”, Mikey asked his brother who seemed in his own little world
Gerard just grunted
“Kelli I mean, remember when we had that other dude that did our sound checks, we did nearly a whole set before he was satisfied”, Mikey asked taking a huge mouthful of his drink
“Yeah”, replied Gerard not sounding the least bit interested, he obviously had something else on his mind.
Mikey followed his brothers stare to the sound booth where Kelli and Nick were standing flirting and giggling with each other. Gerard’s face told Mikey all he needed to know.
“You like her don’t you”, Mikey asked in more of a statement than a question
Gerard snapped out of it and glared at Mikey
“It’s okay I have known for a while”, Mikey added
“Don’t know what you mean”, Gerard finally answered trying to throw him of the trail
“Gerard you’re my brother, I have seen how you act around girls since I was 10 years old and I know enough about it to know that you are crazy about her”
“Is it really that obvious”, Gerard asked feeling slightly embarrassed
“Only to me, no one else has mentioned it”, he added reassuringly
“So you ever planning on telling her”, Mikey asked with another chug of his soda
“I dunno, it’s difficult ya know, I don’t think she feels the same, so what’s the point, it will just make the tour harder if things become weird between us, and I really don’t want that to happen, plus she has him now”, said Gerard with distain
“They have been on one date, I hardly think they are talking marriage yet, plus you don’t know how she feels, she could think the same about you”,
“I know your right Mike, it’s just not that simple”,
“Well if you ever need to talk about it, you know where I am”, Mikey said patting his brother on the back in a supportive manner.
“Thanks bro”, smiled Gerard
Mikey walked away leaving Gerard feeling worse, he knew he had to tell Kelli, he just wasn’t sure how.
