The story of a missing imperial frigate, and its recovery.
Crew: 250 Projected Travel Time: 20 days
Two guards are standing in a hallway, attempting to communicate with someone.
"funny... im only getting static."'
"uh..are you sure? Check the battery pack. Maybe you forgot to charge it again."
"no, its on green...why isn't that peter responding? That stupid idiot...he better not be playing one of his games again.."
"hmm...here, lemme call him on the com.net."
"like that's going to do any good...."
"shut up! Im trying to listen!"
"that is weird...nothing... god dammit, looks like we have to go check his sector out again...Grab your lasgun. This better only take a couple'a minutes..."
(the two guards walk down the hall, their footsteps resounding against the metal covered walls. They eventually reach their destination.)
(clears throat) "well. Here it is. Sector 6, control room. Gimme the card key." (slides the key into electronic lock.)
"what the hell is wrong with this door?" (bangs on door) "peter! You in there?! Open this damn door! This is not a joke anymore! We don't have time for this crap!"
(still no response.)
"Damn you peter, if you don't open this freaking door now, we'll bust our way in!"
The first guard looks at his comrade, motions at the door, and the other guard aims his lasgun at the lock. The Guard fires, and a laser burst rips through the lock, and the hiss of depressurizing air can be heard. The guards walk in. They try to look inside, but the lights are out. One of the guards reaches for the light switch. He flips it on, but to no avail. One of the guard pulls out a flashlight, and turns it on. There is a sharp intake of breath.
The first sight is blood. Splattered all over the place. The control room chairs are broken, scattered on the floor. Many of the control panels are ripped open, and the communications pack is on the floor, broken. The two guards are too shocked to say anything. One of the control room personnel is on the ground, with a large gash in his abdomen. He is moaning. One of the guards rushes towards him.
"Are you alright? What happened here?! Where's the head control engineer-peter?!"
The wounded engineer moans again.
"I-I don't know...everyone else in the room is dead...(he spews out some blood.)..everyone...I don't know...there were 4 of us. Just doing our-our work, when the lights went out in this room...and then..and then..."
"I heard something moving..somethingS....I dunno what..I heard the others screaming...and then something slashed my stomach....and I heard as I lay here.. Everything being destroyed..."
"stay with me! (looks at other guard) sound the alarm frequency! Hurry up! Get a medic and a squad of shock troops down here, damn it, and FAST!"
The other guard reaches into his communication pack, and turns on the transmitter.
"this is guard Levern. We have an emergency down here in the control room of sector 6. 4 casualties. We need a medic down here now. Send reinforcements immediately.. I repeat, this is guard Levern..."
The flashlight dies out.
(there is silence accept for the hum of electric motors in the background, and the quiet moaning of the wounded engineer.)
"ah, doesn't matter. I have back up batteries. Here take these, and fix the flashlight while I try to figure out what happened here." (gives the batteries to the guard levern)
The first guard, apparently the lieutenant, goes off to check the electrical instruments, seeing if any are functional. He paces and looks at a Security recorder. He attempts to turn it on, when he hears some noise back where levern is. Apprehensive, the lieutenant heads back to where Levern is.
"hey levern, how soon are the reinforce- Levern? Levern?"
A dripping sound can be heard in the background now.)
The injured engineer has disappeared to.
The lieutenant pulls out his lasgun, and jams in a clip.
"god damn it, when is the backup coming?" He begins to get worried, and heads towards the door in which they entered. As he walks nervously towards the doorway, something drips on the lieutenant's soldier. Startled, he looks up.
The bodies of Levern and the wounded engineer and "nailed" to the ceiling, by flesh hooks. Blood is dripping down on to the floor.
The lieutenant screams in horror, just as he senses something approaching. He brings his lasgun to bear and runs towards the door. He hears some sort of a low growl, and he sees something in the darkness chasing him. He makes it to the door, and it opens. Only, now, the entire hallway is blacked out.
The lieutenant looks back in to the control room. Something has followed him out into the hallway. Screaming, the soldier fires random shoots from his lasgun. He hears the blasts slam into the walls. Eyes wide, he suddenly stops shooting, as 5 claws pierce through his flak jacket. What had happened? He asked himself, just as his vision got blurry...
The Iudicus XI was now completely dark inside. Not a noise came from the frigate, as it drifted off of its flight path.....
