IUDICUS XI- aboard the compromised vessel. PART 4
[10of 20 kasrkin are able]

"Medic, give us a casualty count."

"we have suffered 10 casualties. The thing out there-the carnifex. It ripped apart a couple'a soldiers, and the others are..missing."

"alright. We cant stall."

"engineer! Get your ass over here."

"sir."

"get your butt on that comp, see if you can turn on the ship's internal defenses. Coordinate the comp. so that it attacks anything that isn't human."

"yes sir." The engineer runs off to turn on what he can.

"all right, the rest of you. Get your stuff ready. Check your weapons and armor especially. Our plates can only take so many claws."

The sound of jamming and clicking rebounds off the walls of the room.

The Communications soldier speaks up.
"For some reason we cant send signals outta this ship-as if the tyranids are purposely jamming our signals..."

"That's why. We don't have time to waste. We need to turn on the defenses, kill everything on this ship, then bring it back to home base."

The Engineer yells from the other side of the room(as the room is fairly large) "The comps. Are actually working. But, only like 40% of the defenses are operational. Anything else sir?"

"Alright, engineer, can you turn on the auto-cams?"

"uh....yeah."

"alright. I want you to look at the engine room- turn on the thermal scanners and look at the areas in the engine room with the most heat- then get a close visual on those areas. I'm afraid that something may have happened.."

The engineer presses several buttons. "well, the engine rooms looks pretty quiet except-except..for lots of dead bodies...and it looks like there was a fight in there. Wait-im getting a huge therm. Signal from one of the corners of the room."

"get a visual."

"I don't see anything...wait."

"what?"

"oh my god."

"what?"

"theres-theres a hive pool there! Holly shit, this whole ship is gonna be infested!"

"calm down, fool.hmm. Look for a self destruct button."

"but- we cant kill ourselves! I mean, we can, and Im not afraid but-"

"shut up and look for it."

"alright, found it."

"set it for 1 hour. Then unlock all the escape pod chutes."

"yes sir...all of it is now operational."

"ok.. (sergeant looks at his men, who are standing, waiting his orders) Grab your gear, men. We gotta move quickly. GO."

The kaskrin file out of the room silently. They move down a hallway, moving towards the escape pod area.

A soldier asks a question in the com-net.
"why couldn't we just ask for a shuttle pick up?"

"because you idiot-if we take a shuttle, the tyranids will be doubly alerted-they'll probably take the whole shuttle down. Better we split up into pods and escape. Less risk."

There is no more talking on the com-net.

The kasrkin pace down several corridors.

"Alright. The escape pod room is just beyond this airlock. Suit your selves up, boys. Do it well. Don't forget Johnny. Forgot to seal his helmet-"

There's some laughing. "and his eye balls got sucked out."

The airlock opens. The lights are dim, as the lights in this sector are malfunctioning.
Ok. Remember the plan. Two per pod. One pilots the pod, the other commandeers the multi-laser. Go.

The men scramble to the pods, but they all gape in shock.

The pods are already open. Attempted escapees are spread inside the cockpits, dead. Blood is smeared all over the translucent canopy. All of the pods are disable beyond repair.

The Kasrkin sergeant speaks first. "obviously, the tyranids know we are here. Damn. Damn. That means we're gonna have to destroy the tyranid hive pool. That'll let us establish com. With the home-base. We'll ask them for a heavy cruiser transport for rescue. It'll be a risk...but its our only hope."

"why cant we just bust our way into the bridge, take over the controls, and fly it to home base, jump out, and let the ground forces fry this baby?"

"We can take it for proof- disabling all the pods on purpose. The tyranids are just toying with us. This is a game for them. This is a hell for us. You think the tyranids are stupid enough to let us do that?"

"well..."

"if a cruiser comes, it can shoot boarding torpedoes into the Iudicus. We can reach the torpedoes, strap ourselves in, and fly back to the cruiser."

"how do we know that the tyranids wont jump into a torpedo too, and fly back to the cruiser and kill everyone in there?"

"because torpedoes can only be activated via a code that officers only know. Even if the tyranids bust through two layers of adamantine, the torpedo will just sit there, doing nothing. A code is necessary to fly the thing."

"oh..."

"now, we gotta move. The tyranids are probably waiting to set us up.. At the best moment.."
