Chapter 1: Asking

"Come on, dad," Scott said to his father. "When was the last time Virgil had a vacation ?"

"He has a point, dad. I mean, the last time I had a vacation was when I had to go with Alan when he went to a race to be his car mechanic because they didn't have any mechanics to repair the racing cars of the racers," Virgil said "And that was more working than relaxing."

"Hey, I didn't ask you to come with me." Alan said who was sitting next to Scott.

"Well, you were really happy when your motor didn't work the day before the race and Virgil was with you, when I was shopping in the city." Tin-Tin said sitting next to Alan. "And when we were lost and luckily Virgil could speak Spanish."

"Okay, okay, you win, Tin-Tin." Alan said, while holding his hands in the air. Everyone started to laugh then Virgil brought the subject back.

"So can I go? If I get in trouble I can always contact you on the wristcom," Virgil said.

Everybody looked at Jeff, who was still thinking about whether or not to let his son go to the Alps. It had been a few years since him and his sons had gone to the Alps, when an avalanche had killed Jeff's wife, who was mother to his five kids. Jeff didn't want his son to be taken by an avalanche as well.

"Jeff, let the boy go, if he wants to. He's old enough to know when something is wrong to call you or to stay out of danger," Grandma said to him.

"Who would be going with you and when would you be back?" Jeff asked, still wondering if it was a good idea to let his son go to the Alps with some of his friends.

"Well...Sam, Allie, Nick, Billy, Emily, Sarah and Katie and we would be back in a week," Virgil said.

"Seven people, Jeff. Seven friends who would be with him and I'm sure there would be more people at the Alps,." Grandma said.

After a few minutes, Jeff spoke. "What are you waiting for? Don't you have to go to the Alps?"

"Thanks, dad," Virgil said with a smile.

Jeff smiled slightly when Virgil left the room to pack his bags. "Well, I'm going to join Gordon in the pool. Are you coming Tin-Tin?" Alan asked, while standing up.

"No, Brains and I have some work to do on the Mole. Maybe I'll come after," Tin-Tin replied. When Tin-Tin and Alan had gone, Scott stood up. "I'm going to see how our adventurer is doing with packing." Scott said and walked off to Virgil's room.

"I'm glad that you have let that boy go," Grandma said, looking at Jeff.

Jeff said nothing when his mother had said that. He still didn't like the idea of letting Virgil going to the Alps. Not after what had happened to his wife, Lucille.

- Flash Back -

"Jeff, can you watch Alan and Gordon for me while I'm skiing with Virgil?" Lucille asked.

"Sure honey," Jeff said.

Jeff stood with Gordon and Alan watching Lucille and Virgil skiing, or better said, Lucy skiing and Virgil falling down. Virgil wasn't much of a great skier then. He set his feet wrong.

Virgil was skiing and suddenly he felt down and couldn't get up anymore. So Lucy skied over to him to help him, when suddenly an avalanche came down. It was coming straight at Lucy and Virgil. Jeff had started to yell at them to get out of there, but it was too late. The avalanche had covered them with snow.

-End Of Flash Back-

Jeff struggled a bit with the memories of what had happened.
