DISCLAIMER: I don't own Dir En Grey, nor do I have any affiliation with them. I'm just a fan who puts them in random situations and calls it art. I hope I have done accurate depictions of each members unique personality. As they are a Japanese band there will be sparse Japanese dialogue, if anyone requires clarification. Message me and I'll be glad to help. - Tokai

Chapter 6

The sun was hot as it sat high over Kyoto. Kaoru scowled behind his sunglasses as he took a long drag from his cigarette and threw it to the ground. He stared in amazement as Cassandra climbed onto the bus behind theirs. Kyo, being the genius he was, had invited her to travel with them as a roadie. If she couldn’t see what he was up to Americans were more senile than he had heard. He hadn’t seen her in almost a month, but that was admittedly his own doing. Any other time he couldn’t give a shit who Kyo was on the phone with, but for the past month Kaoru was always in ear shot.

He turned his head to see Shinya standing just a few feet away. He held Miyu in his arms, looking at him. Gods help him if someone asked him “Daijoobu?” One more fuckin’ time he was going to punch them. To his relief Shinya said nothing, just stood there with a look of attempted understanding before pulling out his sunglasses and sliding them over his eyes. Kaoru heaved a sigh and climbed onto the bus. He took a seat, staring out the window and waited for the ride to the next live to start.

Six hours and a cat nap later he had his shoes kicked off, legs propped up, and a pillow behind his back as he attempted to sketch a decent manga of the band. But like everything else in his life lately, it was shit. He was trying to perfect fucking Shinya’s dainty hair when a shriek came from behind him.

“Daisuke!! Baka da ne!!”

“Haha kowaii sou Totchi-Chan!!” Kaoru looked back to see Die and Toshiya playing video games. Die was reaching over pressing random buttons on Totchi’s controller. He could feel a smile curving his lips as he watched his band mates enjoying themselves.

“Ooo the infamous Niikura mangas…” He snapped his head around as Cassandra sat next to him. What the hell was she doing here?

“Weren’t you on the other bus? I…”

“Do you greet everyone this way?” She asked with a grin.

“Ah, gomen…”

“Can I see?” He struggled to find something to say as she lifted the paper from his lap.

“Well, it… um… It’s nothing special, just something to pass the time…” Note to self: Get a grip Niikura!! You idiot!!

“So much detail to Shinya’s hair…”

“Well that’s how he is. Every-”

“Every hair has to be in place. I’m sure Okaasan wouldn’t have it any other way.” He waited nervously as her eyes scanned the paper. “Ii desu ne”

“Hontou!” She nodded. “But it would be funnier if you had Toshiya-San fall on his ass right here.” She pointed to a panel about a quarter of the way down the paper. Kaoru laughed big,

“Sou desu ne?”

“We made a little pit stop while you were napping; Kyo thought I might be more comfortable up here with the band.” He couldn’t believe this, this wasn’t like Kyo at all. The little squirt was terrified of women but he had no problem talking to Cassandra?

“Was he right?”

“I suppose he was. Don’t get me wrong all the crew is very nice, but whipping Daisuke-San at video games is a lot more fun.”

“I heard that!” Kaoru let out a hardy laugh as Die tried to defend his “honor”.

“Don’t worry Cassandra, Die has never really been a tough opponent. Isn’t that right Shinya?” An unsuspecting Shinya looked up from Miyu, with a look of utter confusion that sent everyone else into laughter. Kyo’s head poked out from the back of the bus.

“Fall asleep in the closet again?” Kaoru asked.

“What’s it to ya?” He replied groggily. He asked what all the noise was for and with a cheeky grin Toshiya explained that Die had lost to Cassandra. Kyo’s face remained expressionless; he blinked for a moment and looked at Cassandra. “Don’t worry, even Shinya could kick Die’s ass at video games.” Everyone broke into laughter again.

“Fuck you Kyo!!” Die exclaimed, throwing a small pillow at him. Kyo dodged and allowed a small grin to curve his lips.

“The one you really need to worry about is him.” Kaoru’s smile faded as he felt Cassandra’s challenging gaze on him.

“You’re that good huh?”

“Ohhh yea, he’s the best.” Die said. “And he’s been saying for weeks how he needs some ‘worthy competition.’ Isn’t that right Leader-San??”

“Yeah, I suppose it is.”

“Well, here you go!” Toshiya smiled and handed his controller to Cassandra who was looking at him with an expression he couldn’t read. She was cut from his view as Die stood in front of him holding out his controller.

“Remind me to kick your ass later.” Die just smiled and placed the controller in his hand.

“Give her hell Niikura.”

After two hours and six rounds of the most punishing “Two Out of Three” matches the band had ever witnessed, Cassandra handed her controller back to Toshiya with a grin of victory on her face. Kaoru sat watching her celebrate with Shinya and Totchi as Die leaned over to him,

“I’d say she’s worthy competition.”

“You’re telling me. I’ve never gotten my ass handed to me like that.”

“It was pretty awesome to watch though.” Die smiled

“Honestly, is my demise all you think about?” Kaoru asked

“Eh, it helps to pass the time.” Die looked at Kao as he watched Cassandra, who held Miyu in her arms and was doing a celebration dance around the bus. “You let her win…” Kaoru gave a small grin,

“Totally worth it.”
