Home > Writing Tips > How do you handle writer's block?

AuthorMessage
Smiley02 I post a story and hope people give me Ideas but I so tell who helped me with the idea because it's only fair
Ellaquent I get it a lot... my remedy is strange... um... The Sandman comics. They're incredible. I read two pages and my block has not only gone, by muse is doing a tap-dance inside my skull.

But maybe that's just me.

Not thinking helps too. Tea, and rain, and someone else's book. Or even meditation.
EclipseIllusion One way I handle writer's block is working on other stories while I'm blocked on a story. This helps a lot. If I can't write a chapter for one story, I work on a chapter in another. I got this advice from another fan fic site. (www.fanfiction.net) I absolutely use it as much as I can.
I hope I helped.
Y2marmar Hi. I get writers block occasionally. I tend to watch tv, read, listen to music, all of this could give me ideas.
lisalulu08 I listen to music, daydream, watch TV, read... and just let the idea just come to me. Sometimes they come to me at school, during lessons!
micman Get inspiration from other fan fictions. metro.max of Fanfiction.com did. here's a URL to his work.

Dragon_of_Twilight Yes, reading other's work and being inspired, then writing something is pretty much fan-fiction. If you are writing a fan fiction, for example, about Pokemon, you might want to watch an episode and draw inspiration from that
notxokayx15 I listen to music (mcr, fob, gc, bayside, and etc.)

also, my friend caroline taught me to daydream in story-form...its really cool. you just continue it day-by-day in your head...just a continuous daydream and for some reason it always inspires me...

XxmarybethxX this sounds stupid...but i drink something with tttttttoooooonnnnnsssss of suggar and then i can churn out ideas....i dont think caprisun has that much suggar but that help too...only th wiled sherry ones...at room temp.
Sassy I like to imagine that all I'm doing is writing down what is actually happening and being said. That it's all really taking place and I'm just jotting it down, that way, it seems to just work.

There have been a few times when I've thought a story would go one one way but it changes completely when someone says or does something I hadn't planned for. But, because of the imagining it's really happening thing somehow it works out.
I suppose all it is, is my mind having ideas that are not fully explored, but come to the fore when the unexpected thing happens. But it's fun writing that way, it feels like what's happening is just as new to me as for the people reading!

btw - yes, I do know that this may make me sound very odd, but I'm okay with that! ;)
