But now, he picked up Sai’s bass and remembered everything he knew, everything he loved. Sasuke finally played liked he used to, if not better.
“You haven’t lost your touch,” Sakura commented, sitting next to him.
They were still on Sakura’s garage, sitting on a burgundy couch she had placed there along with a smaller one so they could rest after practice. Kakashi was working with Sai in the “stage” area and Gaara was sitting on a corner with an acoustic.
“You wouldn’t believe what I’ve been through,” Sasuke replied, as he stopped playing.
“What do you mean?”
“I couldn’t play at all after I left,” he answered. “My thoughts were blocking everything I knew. I would only think about how stupid I had been.”
“It's all better now, Naruto seems a lot happier now that you’re with him,” Sakura reassured. “I think this will just get better from now on.”
Sasuke looked at Sakura. “Yeah, you are right. But he is with Itachi now, so I can’t help but be worried.”
“You shouldn’t. I’m sure Itachi would never dare put him in danger.”
Itachi took him to an old house outside of Konoha. It was very big and beautiful, surrounded with a garden filled with flowers. The wooden house looked ancient, but well kept. Naruto looked at Itachi and the Uchiha held his hand firmly.
“Everything’s going to be alright,” he uttered.
Naruto smiled and they both walked towards the house. Itachi rang the bell. Shortly after, the door was opened. A tall, middle-aged woman with long reddish hair and tiny honey-colored eyes, wearing a russet kimono greeted them kindly. She looked at Naruto carefully and suddenly her eyes filled with water.
“Tamaki-san, is leader home?” Itachi asked politely.
The woman smiled and nodded. “Certainly Itachi-kun, he has been expecting your visit.”
Itachi thanked her and leaded Naruto through the halls.
“Why did her eyes water when she saw me?” Naruto asked.
“You’ll figure it out soon,” Itachi answered.
They reached a large door. Itachi knocked softly. “Come in,” was heard from the inside.
Itachi opened the door and along with Naruto, entered the office. It was very big, even bigger than one of Naruto’s classrooms back in the academy. Bookshelves filled with millions of books covered the walls. In the back was a colossal window, in which the back yard filled with flowers and trees was seen and in the middle a small fountain. In front of the window, was a wooden desk and only the back of the chair was visible, since the person sitting there was watching the view.
“I have brought him, sir,” Itachi uttered.
“Thank you, Itachi,” the man said. “Could you please leave us alone?”
“As you wish,” Itachi answered.
When he was about to walk out, Naruto grabbed his wrist tightly. “Don’t leave me,” he whispered.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. Trust me.”
With that said, Naruto let go of him and Itachi left the room.
“Please take a sit Naruto,” the man behind the chair said.
Naruto proceeded on doing so. He was very nervous, but didn’t want to show it.
“Tell me, how have you been feeling lately?”
Naruto swallowed. “Fine, I guess.”
“Great, I really wanted you to be alright when you came here,” he said. “I don’t want anything bad to happen to you.”
“Why is that? Who are you?” Naruto asked.
The chair turned around. The man sitting in it was probably in his thirties or forties. He had spiky blonde hair and big blue eyes. “My name is Minato Namikaze. Have you ever heard it before?”
“I think…” Naruto paused. The name did seem familiar. It took him some seconds to remember. “You used to be the headmaster of the Academy before the old lady!”
Minato smiled. “Precisely.”
“What do you want with me?” Naruto dared to ask.
“Do you know why I left the academy?” Minato asked, ignoring Naruto’s question.
“No,” he replied.
Minato looked away. “About nineteen years ago, I met a girl. She was the total opposite of me but I still fell in love with her. We spent almost every living second together, even at work. She was a senior in the academy. Things went very fast for us and next thing we know, she’s pregnant. Since I was the headmaster and she was a student, people didn’t take it very well. They wanted me to resign but the previous headmaster, who was still around told me I shouldn’t, so I followed his order.
“Of course, you can imagine how mad people became when I didn’t quit. The baby was born and might I say it was the best day of my life. I will never forget the feeling of being a father for the first time. But after he was born, people got even worse and they started getting violent. One thing led to another and…” Minato paused, a tear slid down his cheek. “Kushina was murdered.”
Naruto simply sat there in shock. “Who did it?”
“I don’t know. I never knew. All I knew was that whoever did it blamed it on me. Everyone in Konoha blamed me, of course. They said I killed her because she ruined my reputation, which is crazy. There was not enough evidence to put me in jail, but the damage was done. I couldn’t raise a baby like that, so I gave him to my old teacher and left.”
“Why are you telling me this? Why did you want to see me?”
Minato smiled. “I just wanted to see how my son turned out.”
