After Midnight

I sat in the lounge of Safe Haven, twiddling my thumbs. I hated it here, but my Mom thought it was for the best. Okay, so I cut too deep, but instead of sending me to a proper hospital like any normal parent, Mom decided to send me here. When I was due to leave, I nearly hit my stepdad, Joe. I fucking hated Joe, so I guess it was good here, if I wasn't by that motherfucking douchebag who uses his own kid as a fucking punching bag. To top it off, he drank like a fish, he had a new bottle of drink everytime I walked past him, and he smelt like something had crawled inside of him and died, and it's rotting corpse remains there. So, Joe decided to make a comment just as I was leaving, calling me a fucking attention seeker. I lunged at him, trying to fucking disembody him, yet I got carted away by people in crisp, white uniforms. I was briefly cut out of my thoughts, by Sadie, one of the nurses here, passed me a small pot of pills. Antidepressants.

"Here you go, Danny." She smiles cheerfully.

"Thanks." I roll my eyes, quickly taking the pills in one fluid motion and passing the pot back to her. Sadie took the pot, then moved over and gave others their tiny pots of coloured pills. I followed her with my eyes, then I noticed Rayven, sat in the corner. Her head was down, and I noticed she was drawing something. Sadie walked over to her, passing her the pot of pills, and Rayven briefly looked up for a second, smiled, and took the pills quickly. She then gave the pot back, catching my gaze. I dropped the gaze, smiling to myself, and before the gaze had dropped I noticed she was smiling as well.

Later that night, I couldn't sleep. The beds here weren't very comfortable, and you barely had any privacy around here. I could probably see why, this was a mental institution so I guess they wanted to keep an eye on the serious druggies, alcoholics and those with crazy suicidal tendancies. I lay awake in my bed, gazing at all my posters on the wall. I had layed them out nicely on the wall, and had taped them neatly too. I had posters of different bands, ranging from Blink-182, Nirvana, Guns n Roses, My Chemical Romance, and loads others, and I had posters from some games too, like Skyrim, Sleeping Dogs, Grand Theft Auto and many more. I also hung some of my drawings up there as well, they were of Vampires, Werewolves and Zombies. I looked at all of them, and then my eye caught on the picture of all the people here, like a school picture day thing, yet for this place. I wondered if Rayven was awake, because I was bored and I kinda liked her, she was cute. I rose from my bed, feet hitting the cold floor. I winced, feeling the transition of the heat to freezing cold, and then I officially got up. I then made my way over to the door, checking for any staff parading the halls, then made my way to Rayven's room. Her room wasn't far from mine, only like two minutes, if you walked quickly. I lightly tapped on the door, before slowly opening it. I caught the sight of Rayven, she was laying in bed reading a book, by candlelight. She looked up, and jumped at the sight of me.

"Sorry." I mumble, looking down. "I didn't mean to scare you."

"It's fine." She said, putting her book away, and beckoning for me to enter the room, which I did. "Not like I was sleeping or anything."

"Can't sleep?" I ask, and she nodded. I sat down in the chair in the corner of her room.

"You?" She asked. "Can't sleep either?"

"Yeah, I can't sleep either. Not with these fucking voices in my head, telling me to fucking kill myself." I mutter, clenching my fists into tight balls, my nails digging into my palm, causing sharp pains. I seethed, pulling my nails away, and looking at the blood that spilled from my hand. "Fuck, I'm bleeding."

"Wait here." Rayven moved from her bed, walking toward the door. "I'm gonna go get bandages." i was gonna wait for her, but I got a hit of curiosity, so I followed her. She knew I was following her too, but she didn't mind.

Rayven collected the bandages, and we huddled in the Infirmary as she wrapped my bleeding wound up. As she wrapped up my wound, we talked a little, about our past, our intrests and hobbies. Soon, she had finished wrapping up the wound, and held out her hand for me to take.

"Come on, let's go back to my room before anyone spots us."

"No." I say. "I'm bored, I'd rather have a little fun." Rayven raised an eyebrow with a smirk.

"What kind of fun?" That made me smile mischeviously, and I grabbed her hand and dragged her from the room. We ran down halls, laughing, like all teenagers do. We made it to the pool, and at the same time we jumped in, still laughing. We then began to splash eachother, before Rayven spoke, breathless from the laughing.

"Danny I have to tell you something."

"What?" I ask, moving slightly closer to her. "What is it?"

"I.. I love you." She confessed. "And, I've loved you, ever since you first came here, three months ago."

"Really?" I said, suprised, and also glad. "Because, I feel the same way." I hesitated, then pulled her close and kissed her passionately. As we kissed, it felt like the whole world was at peace again, and nothing else mattered by the two of us. Rayven pulled away, smiling.

"I love you, Danny." She sighed, hugging me as we floated in the water.

"I love you too, Rayven, so much you don't even understand." I sighed as well, then a bright light hit my face, and a voice boomed.

"You there! What are you doing out here?! Get out!" The voice got closer, and I realised we had been caught. As we were escorted back to our rooms, me and Rayven never let go of eachothers hands, which was how it was meant to be all along.
